Good luck getting good seats to Potter tonight, it's 5:30pm now and only the front 3-4 rows are available. it's up to about 80-90% now for most night sessions.

Can't wait to see the opening day figures tomorrow. still no news on midnight grosses for Australia, they don't normally release it.

First $1 billion ‘Potter’ likely for last movie

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/first- ... _news_stmp

Teen wizard Harry faces off one last time against the diabolical Lord Voldemort in what’s supposed to be the climactic conclusion to the most lucrative film franchise ever. Time Warner Inc.’s /quotes/zigman/528906/quotes/nls/twx TWX -1.48% Warner Bros. film unit have had a virtual guarantee of around $900 million in worldwide receipts every time a “Potter” installment hit screens.

That batting average is likely to go up this year, as the second part of the last “Potter” book, “Deathly Hallows,” is expected to crack the $1 billion mark, a first for the series.

“It would be surprising if the final ‘Potter’ didn’t pass $1 billion,” said Brandon Gray, president of BoxOfficeMojo.com. The first part of “Deathly Hallows,” released in November, grossed more than $950 million worldwide.

Fandango's Top 5 all-time has been revealed...Potter 2 rises to #2 with at least a day left to go.....

"Deathly Hallows: Part 2" is Trending to Become #2 Top Pre-Seller in Fandango History

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases ... 73803.html

Download image LOS ANGELES, July 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- With two more days before its July 15 release date, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" has already leaped over the year's previous box office winners to become Fandango's top-selling title of the year so far.

Fandango has sold more tickets for "Part 2" than it has sold for any other movie this year, including pre-release and post-release ticket sales.

Fandango's Top 5 Ticket-Sellers of the Year (as of July 13, 2011):

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"
"The Hangover Part II"
"Transformers: Dark of the Moon"
"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides"
"Bridesmaids"

"Part 2" is also on track to become the #2 advance ticket-seller in Fandango's eleven-year history, following "The Twilight Saga: New Moon."

Fandango's Top 5 All-Time Pre-Sellers (by day's end on July 13, 2011):

"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" (2009)
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" (2011)
"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" (2010)
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" (2010)
"Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" (2005)

The final adventure of the "Harry Potter" franchise is currently conjuring up 91% of daily ticket sales on Fandango, the nation's leading movie ticketing destination. More than 5,000 showtimes for the film are already sold out across the country, with theater owners continually posting additional show times to meet the fan demand in all the fifty states.

"It's our fastest-selling movie of the year and our best-selling 'Potter' movie of all time," says Fandango Executive Vice President and General Manager Rick Butler. "So many film fans grew up with 'Harry Potter' and want to celebrate the series conclusion together on the big screen. The first 'Potter' helped put advance ticketing on the map in 2001, so in some ways, Fandango as a company grew up with 'Potter' as well. It's fitting that the grand finale would break records with fans on our Web site and mobile applications."

It's not even out yet, but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is already breaking records. Distributor Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the Harry Potter finale has conjured over $32 million in advance ticket sales, setting a new pre-opening benchmark. Regal Entertainment Group alone claimed over $10 million for the 535 locations it operates, whlie MovieTickets.com has already sold more Deathly Hallows Part 2 tickets than for any other 2011 release, marking a 38 percent increase over Part 1.

In a bid to give fans ample opportunity to see the long-awaited finale this weekend (and to potentially break the opening weekend record), Warner Bros. will unleash Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 on over 11,000 screens at 4,375 locations, setting new records for both the franchise and the studio.

Predecessor Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 had around 9,400 screens at 4,125 locations, debuting to a franchise-high $125 million, while Warner Bros. stable mate The Dark Knight had a little over 9,000 screens at 4,366 locations and shattered the opening weekend record with $158.4 million on the same mid-July timeframe in 2008. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End likely still holds the all-time screen count record (11,500), while The Twilight Saga: Eclipse maintains the location count record (4,468).

Included in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2's release is a record 3,000-plus 3D location count, topping Transformers: Dark of the Moon's 2,789 record. Deathly Hallows Part 2 also boasts the IMAX release record, chalking up 274 IMAX locations.

For its midnight launch, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 will show at over 3,800 locations. Deathly Hallows Part 1 played at around 3,700 locations for its midnight debut, which generated $24 million. Eclipse currently holds the midnight record with $30 million at over 4,000 locations.

Each country has their own historical day to release movies. For example, in Australia - it's always been the traditional Thursday opening. Every so often for the big event pics we get Wednesday openings. It's very rare that we get opening 3-Days....the only time this would really happen is that it's influenced by holidays for example ROTK opened on Friday Boxing Day 26th December 2003. There's no point releasing this on Thursday by Christmas Day is normally a dead day for movies....people go out on Boxing Day.

BOM reports 19,500 screens on opening....

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3207&p=.htm

While its domestic release is receiving much of the attention right now, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is also set to debut on 19,500 screens in 59 foreign territories this weekend. The Harry Potter series has to this point been remarkably consistent overseas, and the finale should see a boost from 3D premiums and final chapter anticipation that will allow it to at least come close to setting new foreign and worldwide opening records.

The only film off the top of my head that I think is even close was Pirates 3 with 28,000 screens, 17,500 of which were foreign.

In the Netherlands, HP7.2 made around €500.000 from Tuesday's midnight screenings alone, which is double what 7.1 made back in November... I don't think that will directly translate to double the opening weekend, of course, because that would just be ridiculous.

Yes, was just checking Urban Cinefile's weekly chart....RECORD OPENING DAY, lifted it by over AU$1.5m which is while expected, still huge.

It crushed the 7.5 yr record held by ROTK. This translates to about US$7.5m on Opening Day, which is bigger all but a few opening weekends this year. Absolutely Massive

It's currently 5pm here in Australia and the night sessions are running quite strong, it's probably just a tad weaker than yesterday but nothing to material.

Wednesday openers normally always dip on Thurdsay before recovering for big days on Friday and Saturday.

It's doing the rounds already in the biggest newspapers here in Australia.....

--

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 blitzed box office records on its opening day in Australia.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainme ... 6094726168

The final instalment in J.K. Rowling's extraordinarily successful franchise took an estimated $7 million on Wednesday - the biggest opening day of all time.

Its nearest rival was The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which took $5.3 million when it opened on Boxing Day 2003.

But the jury is still out as to whether the magic wielded by the no-longer-boy wizard and his loyal mates is going to be powerful enough to boost overall box office ahead of last year's bumper figures -- despite opening on a record 748 screens.

In 2010, the Australian box office topped the billion dollar mark for the second time with an annual gross of $1,132.8 million, according to figures published on the Screen Australia webiste.

That was a rise of 4 per cent on the previous year. Admissions also rose, up more than 2 per cent to 92.4 million ticket sales.

So far, this year's overall box office is down seven per cent on 2010, the best year ever thanks to James Cameron's 3D phenomenon Avatar.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II breaks opening day record at box office

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/ar ... 6094762232

THE final instalment of the Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II has broken the record for the biggest opening day's box office in Australia.

The eighth and final film in the adaptation of JK Rowling's series earned $7,029,487 in its first day thanks in large part to the film's expansion across the 3D and IMAX formats. The film opened on 753 screens, another Australian record.

The two previous best openings were for Lord of the Rings films The Return of the King ($5.289 million) and The Two Towers ($5.23 million), which both had the advantage of opening on the most popular movie-watching day of the year, Boxing Day.

Three other Harry Potter films are among the 10 biggest one-day performers in this country. Part One of the Deathly Hallows opened on 610 screens last November and earned $4.046 million before ultimately taking $42 million.

Wednesday:

Bowing in a record 753 screens (5 more than was original suggested); HP7-2 easily claimed the opening day record, at the same time sweeping the Wednesday record as well.

Harry Potter 6: HBP - $4,374,281 (US$3.4m - 485 SC)

Opening Day - All-Time:

The opening was a strong 33% above ROTK's 7.5 year record (that one was a Friday) and 60.6% above the previous Wednesday and franchise record holder; HP6.

Opening Days for Potter releases have come a long way since the original bowed to AU$2.17m (2nd largest opening day at the time behind just Phantom Menace's $2.619m). Only HP7-1 reversed the trend, opening slightly lower than both HP6 and HP5.

No news of midnight grosses but it probably was at least half of its opening day, it was pretty awesome. And the fact that it' opened in the middle of the school holiday season allows kids to see this late.

Opening in a record 753 screens it was 110 screens more than the previous record holder; Australi's 643 screens.

Very good indeed, US$2.5m equates to around AU$2.3m or 32% of its opening day gross. It's midnights would then be stronger than both New Moon US$1.6m and Eclipse US$1.5m.

WEDNESDAY PM UPDATE: My sources say Warner Bros' Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 2 opened internationally with record-breaking sneaks in Australia (2.5M from 273 sites), Germany (1.8M from 563 sites), France $1.1M from 317 screens), Benelux, and Scandinavia. The 3D share of box office is averaging between 70% and 90%. IMAX also had record breaking numbers. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 2 has already broken several North American ticket records in the two days leading up to the series finale’s mega-release on Friday. Dan Fellman, President of Warner Bros Pictures Domestic Distribution, said advance ticket sales have skyrocketed to more than $32 million, a new pre-opening record. Many midnight and first-day show times are already sold out across the country and the studio keeps arranging with exhibitors for more and more screenings beyond the 3,800 locations opening at midnight Thursday. In total by Friday, the last pic will play on more than 11,000 screens in 4,375 locations — both marking records for the Harry Potter series.
