It just occured to me that no Harry Potter movie has won an Academy Award. 7 movies down and only 9 nominations. The first scoring the most nominations with 3.

Do you think they'll do a LOTRs type reward and start showering the final installment with nominations; and possibly a win at last.

The fact that this is looking like one of the best (and potentially the best) release out of the 8 films might help its chances. I can see it winning for something like Visual Effects.

I don't think they'll go to quite an extent like ROTK; however, i think a win is finally in order.

If reviews stay in sync with what the early ones are saying, then I think Rickman should finally get an Oscar nom.

He deserves an Oscar nomination. Has Rickman ever had one?

No

Didn't think so although thought he got one from Sense and Sensibility. He has won an emmy for playing Rasputin.

I think his character is one of the most entertaining of the whole film series, he's perfect for the role. I don't think they'll give him a supporting nom though unfortunately.

Apparently, Potter is getting a record 670 screens here in Australia. Not surprising, the big cinemas are showing this in at least 20+ sessions per day. It'll be stealing all the big screens from Transformers.

The running time is obviously going to help as well.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/forums/vie ... dda9438d99

Expect a record breaking opening day and possibly a record breaking 4-Day weekend. Just 1 more sleep before some people see it at midnight on Wednesday.

Some cinemas are re-showing 7.1 from 8:30pm on Tuesday, and most of these are sold out or very close to....albeit in quite small theatres though.

Here in Singapore also they have a Harry Potter Movie Marathon. Here is one really big schedule

9.30am Registration & Collection of goodie bags
10.30am HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE
(152min)
1pm Lunch
2pm HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS
(161min)
4.45pm Break
5.10pm HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN
(141min)
7.30pm Dinner
9pm HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE
(157min)
11.40pm Break
12 midnight HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX
(138min)
2.20am Break
2.40am HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE
(153min)
5.15am Break
5.35am HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1
(146min)
8.00am Breakfast
9.00am HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2

The ticket costs $88 SGD which is good considering that they are going to provide goodie bags with Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast (once each). The overall runtime though is HUGE as it starts from 9:30am of a Wednesday and finishes at 11am Thursday. The show obviously it sold out though I think most of them will come ONLY the next day for 9am HP 7.2 premier show.

Is this because of the recent special screenings? Oh, 8m for GOF. Nice

I haven't seen any major chains in Australia showing the Potter marathon, though they have been having special screenings of the past 7 movies over the past month.

I believe they were well attended though i don't think they added to the gross at all.

Nope, just tail-end run figures added... (and previous special screenings)...

HP7-1 should add probably something like 0.1m admissions with double features this week...

Slightly, both added less than 10,000 admissions, but HP3, HP4, HP6 added between 61,000-85,000 admissions!

Well it's Monday night around 9pm here in Australia, just over 1 day to go before it formally opens on midnights. TV Spots have been blazing the major channels since the start of the last weekend, it's in full gear now.

What you are about to witness over the next few days will surely be record breaking.....

Post Re: HARRY POTTER 7-2: Deathly Hallows (INTL.) in 2-DAYS
It's official, Potter 7-2 will become the widest release ever in Australia and the first to notch more than 700 screens (it smashed it).....

'Harry Potter' Set for Australia's Widest-Ever Opening

The franchise's final installment will debut on 748 screens.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/h ... est-209593

SYDNEY -- Ahead of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2's official release at midnight Tuesday local time, its Australian distributor, Roadshow Films, has announced that the final installment in the hugely popular franchise will have the widest opening of any film ever in Australia at 748 screens.

Screening during the lucrative school holiday season, opening weekend and week records could easily be surpassed, with the film opening on 138 more screens than Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1, which released here on November 18 last year.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which opened on November 19, 2009, holds the record for highest opening weekend figures, taking $16.1 million ($17.06 million) while Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is number two at $16.2 million on its opening weekend last year.

Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince holds the record for opening week box office here, taking $23.35 million in the same week in July 2009.

Joel Pearlman, Roadshow Films managing director said: “The final instalment of the much loved Harry Potter series is making cinematic history by releasing on 748 screens. This is incredibly indicative of the overwhelming demand from audiences and cinemas alike."

The film will be released simultaneously in 2D, 3D and Imax formats, and Amalgamated Holdings' distribution division, one of the country's largest exhibitors, will open the film on 200 screens from midnight to 6 am on July 13.

AHL is also claiming a world first, with its Event Cinemas, Greater Union and Birch Carroll and Coyle chains getting access to exclusive, previously unreleased behind the scenes footage of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

The footage, which runs for four minutes, will screen at the beginning of each and every screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, from opening day.

The film is also expected to boost the 2011 Australian box office, which has fallen in the opening months of the year, after record 2010 takings, fuelled in the first half of the year by I.

According to local reports, box office totals here for the first five months of 2011 are down 7.5% to AUS$440.47 million ($466.4 million).

==

Talk about an explosive way to launch proceedings. I'm telling ya folks, this is going to be one very special week. Something on this scale and excitement has never been felt since ROTK...

Top 5 widest releases in Australia:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/harry_p ... s_part_ii/

I use their site for australian bo.

WB went apeshit with their ad campaings, srsly 2 tv spots in every commecial break (in WB channel) and one every commercial break in the other networks.

Also, this is gonna slay Mexican BO so hard it aint even funny.
