Kind of what I was talking about with the whole "nastiness" thing. Good job, Magnus.

Dark of the Moon's 3D share of the gross continued to be 60 percent at a record 2,789 3D locations. Also Cars 2 3D share fell to around 35 percent.

Convenient that the 3D share is still reported at 60% when the industry standard being sought after is exactly that.

Fishy.

That's not my point. My point is that there are people who wrote the movie off before Wednesday was even over.
So we made guesses that what has typically been a frontloaded franchise would continue to be so? Boy, we sure committed an irrational, cardinal sin with that one..

It's just illustrative of a common trend (sickness?) on this forum: y'all are so trigger happy with every minute set of data that it becomes this endless cycle of bitching and grave dancing. And this doesn't just happen with Transformers, it happens with pretty much everything. A movie is declared an outright flop at, like, 5 PM the day it opens because of some random number Nikki Finke throws out, and no one even attempts to reason that one day does not tell the full story.
I disagree completely. At least for me, I'm not being a debbie-downer-I'm making an educated guess based historical precedence and other factors. As box office predictors, that's kind of what we do. Most blockbuster movies are making 13-20% of their gross on their first day, so if a film disappoints on OD, it's not knee jerk irrationality to think it'll continue to disappointment. Sometimes we're wrong, like in the case of IJ4 and now TF3, but more often than not those are simply the exceptions.

And I don't mean to rag on you, but as much as you get frustrated by the perceived negativity, I get annoyed by the "wait and see" proclamation. This forum lives and dies by discussion, as long as it remains civil. :)

Libs is cool in general, but she should maybe cool it with all the, "Be positive! Come on! No arguments! So dark! It's a sickness!" stuff.

Darkside Libs would be pretty weird though. I don't think anybody wants that.

She needn't jump into every thread/argument with the same plea/rant, though.

So where are all the people who were labeling Transformers a HORRIBLE FLOP after its first day was barely even over? Yet again, patience is a virtue. It's doing less than the previous film but showing significantly less frontloading.

Disappointing for Larry Crowne and Monte Carlo, although they could possibly have good legs. The audience at my showing of Larry Crowne last night was one of the oldest I've ever been in attendance at, even more than when I saw The King's Speech. So that could benefit it.

Cars' plunge is alarming but presumably it will rebound over the weekend. Bad Teacher will stabilize as well.

175m is still weak, I agree people react far too quickly and assume too much with the slightest piece of evidence, but given the 250m+ predictions for 6 days, it's still not great. It'll still have a hard time beating the original, which given 4 years of inflation and the increase of the sequel is not very good.

What the hell are you talking about? Rev is one of the only people that predicted over $250 mil 6-day. $175+ mil is NOT weak. And it will NOT have "a hard time" beating the original.

Thing is though, from my perspective, calling Transformers 3 DOA is actually more optimism than negativity. Premature either way, sure, but the idea was strangely heartwarming if anything.

thats very sad for cars 2 but i have a felling that we might see it make over 15 million today and 11 for sunday, but that would still be very bad for pixar.

Cars 2= pixar's first box office and critical failure

Brave=maybe one of their best films but well be another box office failure if its in 3D, pixar might look at how cars 2 3D percentage is low and dont make Brave in 3D, plus i believe 3D begun to die lats year when Clash of the titans came out

Cars may not even pass $25M for the 3-day if it plays out like the family films in 2005, the last time the 4th fell on a Monday.

It'll probably be something like...

Friday- $7,871,000
Saturday- $8,618,745 (+9.5%)
Sunday- $7,196,652 (-16.5%)
Monday- $5,253,556 (-27%)

3-day- $23,686,397 (-64.19%)
4-day- $28,939,953 (-56.24%)
