Sandra Bullock Sets Rumors Strait Over Her Turning Down M$B
http://imdb.com/news/wenn/2005-03-08/#3
Sandra Bullock is upset by reports she turned down the chance to star in Oscar-winning movie Million Dollar Baby - because she tried to get the film made for years. The actress calls rumors she snubbed Clint Eastwood "total rubbish," insisting instead that gossips have got their facts wrong. She explains, "We had Million Dollar Baby with someone else for a while, trying to get it made. I couldn't get it made. We tried and tried and tried. (They were like) Female boxing movies don't sell. I was like, 'This is the most incredible piece.' I then started doing Miss Congeniality 2 and they got Hilary Swank and they got Clint." But Bullock insists she's not bitter about the fact the film went on to net Swank a Best Actress Oscar - in the role she wanted to play: "When things like that happen, that's the way they're supposed to be."

Poor Bullock. Although she probobly would have hurt the film substantially its a shame that a film she was so fond of got credit for other peopels involvement

Sound suspicious. Who was "they" that said female boxing movies don't sell? Girlfight did very well in theatres and launched Michelle Rodriguez's career.
The bout between Laila Ali and Jacquelyn Frazier-Lyde got alot of media attention didn't it?
I could also have no lcue what I'm talking about, seeing as how I hate boxing.

Hollywood Politics lie deeper than we are lead to believe, Dolcevita.
I have no doubt projects like Garden State and M$B would have had a tough time getting made. With M$B, a ClintWood attachment no doubt would have secured it

When Sandra was attached to it ... Clint wasn't.
Garden State never would have got made if Braff hadn't financed the whole thing himself almost.

I'm not surprised Sandra Bullock had a hard time getting the movie made when she was attached to it. In fact, Warner Bros. barely agreed to distribute it even when Clint Eastwood was on board.

Yes, Eastwood had a heck of a time getting M$B greenlit, and unlike Bullock, he could offer a lead actor, a long standing relationship with WB (a relation which has apparently ended over this issue), his choice of a large list of actors who want to work with him, a composer , and a director that would be able to bring in the movie ahead of schedule and under budget. He filmed, scored, learned his lines, marks, and hired his actors and film crew very fast. He filmed it lean, as he's known for doing, and saved countless time in the editing room. He ended up surprising the studio by having it ready in time for awards season, and the film scored a knockout and won best picture, along with director, actress, and supporting actor at the Oscars.
WB STILL turned him down, because "movies about female boxers won't sell.". Clint had to turn to an outside company to finance half of the budget to get the movie made. I've also heard that an advertisement for Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" television show appears on the side of the bus Maggie is riding, so it looks like the Donald threw a few bucks in for advertising. That's probably not all that Eastwood needed to cut costs with, and one has to wonder if Clint scored the movie himself because he couldn't afford to hire someone to do it. (he did a great job too)
It tells you something about the state of Hollywood, when a gem like Million Dollar Baby goes through hell and back to get to the point of being made, but studios will throw money at the latest hunk of junk that they think they can manipulate the audience into paying to see and buying on DVD.
I wonder why The Mask 2 didn't have any problems getting made?

Swank is MILES better than Bullock. Bullock would ahve ruined it....glad that WB were fobbing her off wti that excuse about female boxing movies, only to then get Clint involved

Any news fro the IMDB should be treated as suspect, they'd print a rumor tattooed on a dead crack ho.
It was their site which orgianlly said Bullock turned down the role, they also claimed Ashley Judd's askignprice would have sen the film over budget...um, ok, when did Judd who hasn;t had a hit in forever have an asking price that breaks the bank. Double Jeapardy was a long time agao.
Anything I read that there that is not corraborated by other source I tend to not believe.
So unless this stories appears someone else, I consider the whoel issue of Bullock every even eyeing the role to be suspect.
