Yeah, I actually felt like Alice was something of an event, although still not on the level its gross would normally suggest.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (INTL) $756m & counting...
That is a big drop for Pirates..probably Cars 2 and Green Lantern plus KFP2 might be the reasons for it loosing 3D screens and with TF3 coming ahead I see an even bigger drop next week. I am not so sure for $800m OS total now, it made about $24m for the week.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (INTL) $756m & counting...
If Transformers 3 hits it big next week then we can call it a risk. It's still only $44m away. and should at lesat close it down to $40m by the start of the new weekend. At the momment, it's probbaly tracking anywhere between $790 and $810m.....depending on how hard it gets hit over the next 3 weeks with Transformers and Potter 3, and the other movies expanding. Plus its been out for more than a month now so will start to loose screens naturally anyway.

I think it already suffered loss of screens in most markets this weekend. The only thing is how much will Disney push this after $1B...definitely Japan is still doing gangbusters and will be a key market for it to reach $800m OS.

Germany will contribute another $2m-$3m until it leaves theaters...

Joining an elite group of movies, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will jump the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office sometime this weekend.
Through Wednesday, the pic’s global cume was $992.9 million. On Stranger Tides has done massive business at the international box office, where it’s grossed $761.9 million to date. Domestically, it’s cumed $231 million.http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/p ... set-207343

Hmm, slowing down considerably. I think $800 million will no longer happen.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (INTL) $756m & counting...
Quote: LOS ANGELES (TheWrap) - Disney on Saturday confirmed that its fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, "On Stranger Tides," has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide since its May 20 release.
The film represents the second top-grossing "Pirates" film, and will now set its target on 2006's "Dead Man's Chest," which took in $1.066 billion worldwide.
At $756.1 million going into the weekend, "On Stranger Tides" is the third biggest international ticket seller of all time among all time, beaten only by James Cameron's "Avatar" ($2.02 billion) and "Titanic" ($1.24 billion).
While domestic box office performance for "Pirates 4" has trailed the three previous films in the franchise, the movie's international performance is nothing short of extraordinary.
Here, thanks to Disney's public relations department, are some fun "On Stranger Tides" fast facts (well, fun if you're a Walt Disney Co. shareholder):
* Eighth film in history to reach the $1 billion threshold.
* Third Disney film in less than 18 months to gross $1 billion globally ("Alice in Wonderland" was the other).
* The Walt Disney Studios' fourth title to earn $1 billion.
* No. 3 film of all time at the international box office.
* Crossed the $500 million international threshold in a record-setting 14 days.
* Crossed the $800 million global threshold in only 20 days, the second fastest ever to reach this milestone.
* Set a new industry speed record by crossing the $700 million global threshold in only 16 days.
* Disney's biggest international release ever.
* The biggest "Pirates of the Caribbean" installment in 58 territories.
* Highest-grossing Disney film ever released in China and Russia.
* Nearing $100 million in Japan, where it's been No. 1 for all six weeks of release. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/07/ ... NC20110702

Did it not earn $762m through Wednesday? That would be only a tiny drop compared to last weekend ($13m vs $12m).

Something doesn't add up. They must have adjusted the previous numbers somewhat.

Don't forget in some countries like France weekend begins on Wednesday. So Wednesday numbers in those markets can be counted "twice" - meaning they're in the total by Wednesday, but are part of the weekend numbers as well...

With only $25m to go, i think it'll make $800m (just), it's legs have been good and i'm sure Disney will continue to have this playing for another 2 months or so.

It'll be close, but I have a hard time seeing this making more than $791-792 million. It's losing 3D screens everywhere and that pretty fast.

That's true, once Harry Potter opens, it'll loose pretty much all of its special 3D and IMAX screens. Transformer 3 probably took a lot out of it last weekend. I think if they continue to leave this running for a lengthy period of time, it may still hit $800m.

I don't think this will hit $800m OS mark now. I don't think the markets have the capacity to give it lengthier run specially with the onslaught of July movies.

Very nice hold this past week, adding approx. $11 million. $800 million OS is going to be close.
And now it's only $3 million away from passing Alice in Wonderland's WW total of $1.024 billion.

Very close, indeed. But Toy Story 3 and Dead Man's Chest are both safe worldwide.
