It's a Fathom event. Those are never reported.

Why not? It's still a paid event. the original LOTR EE re-release back in 2003 was reported ;)

Can't see why these can't ;) I want to see the grosses go up

Luke Evans To Play Bard in 'The Hobbit'

Final piece of the puzzle as fars as human casting is confirmed. He definately looks very Viggo-esque

He played Apollo in Clash of the Titans, and apparently plays Zeus in Immortals. ;)

Don't really know what to think, always thought of Bard as someone slightly broader and older ;) They do cast the actors slightly younger in this production of The Hobbit.

WOW, i was in a music/video store today (JB Hifi for those in Australia) and they were showing the Blu Ray edition of LOTR: TTT. There was a small group of people watching the scene where Gandalf charges down the mountain into the Helms Deep battle, they look like hardcore fans to me :funny:

What struck me was the sheer quality of the Blu Ray, the detail in it was just amazing and they seem to have amped up the color in the Blu Ray releases.

I'm still holding onto my DVD LOTR: EE sets, not sure if i'll purchase the Blu-Ray just now....i'm sure they'll release another special edition when the Hobbit opens....so i may wait.

Deadline.com Exclusive: Benedict Cumberbatch Voicing Smaug (And The Necromancer)

http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2011/06 ... cromancer/

I'm caught off guard a bit by the news that both Smaug and Necromancer will be from one actor. Benedict has been lauded in forums and fans seem to like him (i personally haven't seen Sherlock Holmes so can't really judge him yet) though his face was always quite striking (in a weird kinda way).

I'm eager to see how they portray the Necromancer, will it be a Mouth of Sauron type character or something which shows his true nature :mer: I can so just picture a Wraith like costume. Dark and Black

Evangeline Lilly got cast as an elf. I wonder if Dominic Monaghan convinced Peter Jackson to give her a part.

That's some big news released today. Confirmations of not only Evangeline but also Cumberbatch and also Barry Humphries. Wow, they're basically pulling together every medium-popular British actors outside of Harry Potter :funny: :funny:

http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2011/06 ... humphries/

I don't really know much about Evangeline to comment but the fact that they've cast a known actress in a role suggest that the character of Tauriel will at least have an extended cameo role in the movies.

Tauriel as far as i know is a made up character. Could it be the Itaril character that was rumored all these months :mer:

Oh, and the weird thing is that they only confimed Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug but PJ did not confirm Cumberbatch as also The Necromancer...

http://www.facebook.com/notes/peter-jac ... 6515141558

I'm excited that Barry Humphries is in the movie, he's got that physical and vocal ability that would work well with the Goblin King i think and his name itself is an icon (with Dame Edna Everage :funny: ) trough the Commonwealth, especially in Austrlaia (duh) and UK.

At least they're keeping this slightly British and European centric.

This Dec?

I don't think the delay will be any more harmful than Star Wars.

Evangeline Lilly joins a very small group of female characters in Tolkien's The Hobbit & LOTRs, in fact, her character is a made up one, unlike the other three main leads.

What are your thoughts?

Evangeline Lilly - Tauriel

Miranda Otto - Eowyn

Liv Tyler - Arwen

Cate Blanchett - Galadriel

Do you notice a trend, all of them have very prominent cheekbones. And my my, can you get away from Liv Tyler, she's a pure beauty. You really can't go wrong with her. She can do the really young and innocent look so well but also the more mature and lady like Arwen.

Miranda is commonplace amongst the others but i think she has something that is immediately likeable and the scene with her in the white dress in front of Meduseld, pure gold.

Cate Blanchett is divine as always, and i can't wait to see how they change her costume (if at all) in the Hobbit? One person surely can't where the same clothes for a thousand years. At least in LOTR, each time you see her there's something new, i.e. either in a cloke or in that lovely beaded dress.

Evangeline Lilly, i don't know - i'm not really warming to her. The pictures above are what i would consider sexy and beatiful...most of the other shots are not striking. Her normal Lost shots are not that impressive and i think her face is to wide. I hope they go for some white or earthy with her costume, suits her eyes.

Are we really discussing ladies/girls here? None of them will look hot in the movie(s) :P (they look great but not sexy hot)

I thought i break up the tension a little bit, there's nothing like admiring some truly beautiful women, especially ones that can act as well. Liv was quite hot in LOTRs,

Not sure about Evangeline Lilly, never seen any of her productions though i trust Peter knows what he's doing.

There are plenty pictures of Liv and Cate (or Miranda) that don't look striking, too. Everyone looks better in a photo shoot.

As for her acting abilities, she did a fine job in Lost, she ain't no Megan Fox.

I actually prefer Saorise Ronan moreso than Evangeline, she has that ethereal look along the same lines as Cate Blanchett....whreas Evangeline from the photoshoots i've seen is "slightly sexy babe". Anyhow, perhaps she can blend well into her character once we see the costumes and actually know what her character is going to do in the movies.

This role looks like it's going to be weightier than your average cameo, perhaps like Arwen in the first two movies. Peter mentioned in his announcement that this is the last (with Barry Humphries and Cumberbatch) as the last major actor announcement?

I wonder if that still leaves the door open for a cameo, i would love to see (i know it's wrong but still) Arwen somehwere. But since Aragorn won't be in this movie, i guess there's no point. I can see why in the absence of any female roles of substance in The Hobbit that they create an entirely new female character.

Let's hope she's more Arwen than Xena. :noway:
