GREEN LANTERN: What Went Wrong Bitches???
Well?? What happened to this DC Propery come to life on the big screen?? It's been buttslammd in the reviews to a whopping low 21% ROTTEN last time I checked(though it might've rose a tad higher, but still ROTTEN) it's weekend is a disappointing 53 Million estimate and for a movie that apparently cost as much as this did to make including marketing this(about 300 Million all together) this should've ranked and did much better than what it has and you can sure expect next weekends drop to be Ang Lee HULK size, so in the end, what could they have done to make this movie better??
1) Martin Campbell.. Sure he did CASINO ROYALE and he's a fine director, but much like Ang Lee was with HULK, he was simply the wrong choice.. They should've turned this over to someone who understood the character better, a fans director so to speak..
2) Less CGI, more practical FX if possible.. Now here's a good 1.. Let's take the GREEN LANTERN costume which is 100% CGI from start to finish.. It makes me wonder if Ryan Reynolds could've put in a better performance with an actual costume on like Mcguire did for SPIDER-MAN or Bale as BATMAN, hell even SUPERMAN?? When these actors wore the costumes, it felt real.. It looked like they put in great performances cause the costumes they wore enabled them to actually act, not look all around up and down at a dot on the green screen for the FX to be applied later.. I can only imagine what Reynolds thought acting in front of green screen with nothing to guage..
So far, these are 2 very important things I've brought up and whether you agree or not, I don't care.. Now once again, I know people will bring up the Worldwide Number, but in the end, this is only brought up when a movie does shitty and this is used to save face, to make the movie out to be more successful then it really is.. Domestic is where it's at and GREEN LANTERN thus far has had a disappointing opening, almost bordering on piss poor when characters like THOR are able to gross more in their 1st weekend..

The legs might not be good but the opening is nowhere disappointing for a What Went Wrong.

Re: GREEN LANTERN: What Went Wrong Bitches???
And yet we don't know if it would not have any legs...there is this Saturday drop but it could still be frontloaded for all we know...it is faring better among fans than critics (atleast that's what I heard at THR and many other sites that I read). $200m domestic with such strong competition and superhero overload that wasn't going to happen. Movies aren't expected to open according to their budget but their appeal...it was wrong of studios to invest $200m in GL, but that does not suddenly make it a disappointment, specially when it opened above $50m.
Also the $100m WW marketing seems pretty normal to me I am sure Thor and X-Men would also have that number or will be pretty close to that figure, WB just came clean and gave those numbers.

It just didn't look very eppaling and was of bad quality. That's all there is to it. The failiure is also not spectacular enough to warrant a WWW-thread.

Re: GREEN LANTERN: What Went Wrong Bitches???
From here if the movie collapses it does not mean there was something wrong with the marketing or any other factors, it was mostly because the movie isn't too good. I'd say till now it is all slightly disappointing but nothing that went hugely wrong....its opening is in line with the expectations and legs will be determined by the quality of the movie.

What went wrong? The budget did. If it hadn't blown up like it did, I don't think Green Lantern's probable performance would be considered bad at all.

Very simple - it looked (and apparently was) terrible.

Nothing went wrong. Unless it makes less than Incredible Hulk. But that won't happen.

Lantern lit theaters for $52.7 million, according to studio estimates from box-office tracking firm Hollywood.com.
While the opening was plenty to capture the No. 1 spot, it fell below the projections of some analysts, who expected the family-friendly comic book adaptation to do $60 million.
The summer is rife with superheroes. Thor did a healthy $176 million in May. But since, comic-book heroes have lost some momentum. X-Men: First Class has done $119.9 million in three weeks, a subpar performance for a $160 million movie.
"This is the third superhero film in seven weeks," says Gitesh Pandya of boxofficeguru.com. "Many action fans may have comic-book fatigue."
I'd say the 2nd weekend drop for this will in fact be HULK size, more like HULK 2003 size.. As much as some of you don't think this deserved a WWW Thread, it really did for the massive budget on the movie alone and more than failing to meet expectations.. Don't spin it.. It failed, it sucked.. Let's move on to the soon to be summer winner CAPTAIN AMERICA that's screening already a month early and receiving great reviews and why is that?? Cause MARVEL RULES..

It failed because it sucked there was nothing that the OW suggested something Went Wrong (that too hugely). It surely is not worthy of WWW thread.
