Thor will probably finish with $180.2 million just to screw Magnus over.

Title Distributor Theater Count Change % Change Week # Thor Paramount 875 -907 -50.9% 7
It lost over half its remaining theaters this for this weekend. and Currently stands at 175M. With 875 theaters left, and two new releases next weekend Cars and Bad Teacher grabbing 6900 more screens Thor is sure to shed another 400+ screens.
I am thinking very close but no cigar.
Xmen no way at its current pace and gross but i don't think anyone expected X to pass 180M and the same for Green Lantern - just No feasible way with all the competition for moviegoers dollars in the following weeks - glad it had a respectable opening though.
Looks like this club is going to be 3-0 until Captain America comes out. Despite losing 50% theaters last week it held well throughout the week. Just under 40% drops every day. It still has dollar theaters to get a boost from and CA boost. After this week it will need another $4 million. It's getting there. erm. it lost only 35% of theaters last week. it lost 50% more for this weekend. I dont see it making 4 million from this late in its run and 800ish screens and declining. THe big summer guns are coming and they are goign to be chewing up the screen real estate. No way Thor hangs on to 800 theaters next week. below 500 at the minimum. THe numbers are not going its way. I say it ends up in the 178-179 range at best.

It'll hang around for two more months. Captain America will probably bump its weekend gross when it's out (since the same studio and everything). It'll pass $180 million.

I say it ends up in the 178-179 range at best. Let's look at previous superhero movies. Thor is in its 43rd day/875 theaters with an estimated $300,000. At the same point Wolverine was in 799 theaters with an $276,023. It's theater count went from that to 536-360-303-279-226-181-129-92-etc... From its 43rd day it earned additional $4,390,211. Fantastic Four was in 879 theaters on its 43rd day with $269,540. It dropped theaters 667-480-376-328-314-258-203-149-116-etc... From its 43rd day it earned additional $4,790,662. Let's look how Hulk, the king of superhero frontloading (in both incarnations) fared. Hulk made $117,810 in 374 theaters on its 43rd day. It made $2,221,974 until the end of its run. The Incredible Hulk earned $128,960 in 403 theaters in its 43rd day. It made $2,559,773 until the end of its run. Thor should comfortably double both Hulk movies and considering it has been having better holds than either Wolverine or F4 it should go a smidgen above those two, just enough to crawl to $180m. It will be a long battle. It's pretty safe to say that it's going to end either just under or just over $180m. It's definitely crossing $179m.

In its 7th weekend, Wolverine was coming off a sub-$1 million weekend and stood at $176.15 million. It went on to finish witz $179.9 million.
Thor is coming off a $1.15 million weekend and stands at $176.1 million now. How can it miss $180 million?

Re: No comic-book film this summer will break 180m club
For weeks people have been saying Thor has no chance at $180m. And every week I stood baffled. And even now people doubt it. If it was a doubt in hundred of thousands I'd get it, but I really can't figure out why some still see $178-179m as tops.

Domestic Total as of Jun. 30, 2011: $177,516,000 June 30 Daily $74,000 theaters 404 / $183 per Jun 29 – 1 Updated Thursday afternoons Theater Counts Title Distributor Theater Count Change % Change Thor Paramount 270 -134 -33.2% Breaking 180M? Betting Odds - NOT HAPPENING! By Comparison Wolverine was at $177,526,652 and shed from 536 to 340 midweek then jumped from 340 to 360 theaters going into its ninth frame. This Club is still alive. Next up Captain America I believe.

There's an universal law that dictates that any claim made by Magnus is invalidated by the smallest of margins.

This weekend sealed the deal. Thor is passing $180 million. It is now $400,000 ahead of Wolveine, coming off a bigger weekend.

Re: No comic-book film this summer will break 180m club
It will get to $180m for sure now. DVD release date is not nearby and I think it can run handily into dollar theaters. CA should give it a boost after 2 weeks and from here on it is just $1.3m away.

Yeah great late legs there. Looks like it'll settle for around $182 million.
Now Captain America might very well get there as well.
Poor Magnus.

Yeah and if Thor would have reached $185m you would have then wanted to set it at $190m
