Then either Nikki or THR is off on their Friday projection, since the latter's includes the midnight tally.

Strong opening for Green Lantern. It's because everyone wants to fuck Ryan Reynolds :P.

I am very glad that I was wrong about the Green Lantern. The box office certainly needed a push. It will be interesting to see what type of legs the film shows...

It'll be interesting to see its legs. It's not like Fantastic Four had good word of mouth but because it skewed so young (or so I assume), it was able to have solid legs. Maybe Green Lantern can do the same.

Looks like it'll beat my $50-60 million OW prediction. Aggressive last-minute marketing push did help a lot.

Go ahead, I would love myself Miss Lively. :shades:

Also, if it does get a 20m OD, it's not getting a 3x even with FD.

In fact, it'll also get worse legs because Cars 2 is a juggernaut with the kids and it still is Pixar so it's a no contest.

Then Transformers 3, also kid-appealing, followed by Zookeeper, Potter, CA- no way GL gets good legs with mediocre WOM.

We know Potter is most likely good and is critic-proof anyway, TF3 looks great, Cars 2 is Pixar and CA won't be as bad as GL, so really, its run is done, unless of course, Americans decide to be collective fucktards and give it good legs despite it being the worst movie of the summer so far.

I'm quite surprised to see GL open this well. Just the latest evidence that the target demographic doesn't care about reviews OW.

At least the opening will be good. They probably won't make a sequel though. What they'd do is reboot it . So sick of everything being rebooted, especially when they reboot films that are already hits.

So can we conclude twitter means nothing. its not good enough tool to extrapolate into numbers.

It swung and missed, but show me a method that hasn't struck out many times. If GL has a $23m Friday, it simply means its ratio was similar to Robin Hood's (890). It's all in picking the best comparative match. We learn from it and move on.

I dont see a consistent pattern to use it a tool at this point. Plus Alex just uses what ever ratio fits his prediction rather use a comparative ratio to similar movies. I dont see any comparison between GL and Robinhood.

May be after few years of maintaining the counts if we can detect a pattern, we could use it to extrapolate. Currently its a big hit and miss.

I wasn't hearing anything toxic as I headed to the exits. Also, there was a smattering of applause at the end but by no means thunderous. I got the feeling a majority of my audience enjoyed it for what it was.

It looks like the numbers for this weekend are all over....

THR in its 2nd update says that Green Lantern is expected to gross $22m for $58m-$60m.
Mr. Popper's Penguins - $6.7m for $17m-$19m
Super 8 - $6m (but is still expected to take #2 spot) with $20m

Great hold for Super 8.

I have a bad feeling that X-men crashed and burned. :tears:

I know that MPP is in its OW but it was heavily marketed as a movie to see with your fathers this weekend. On top of that it is more kid friendly than Super 8 so it can have a better Saturday, plus a good Sunday hold. If these numbers hold for Super 8 and MPP then I guess the latter has a very good chance to take #2 spot for the weekend....it's Friday is definitely better than expected.

That would definitely kill FC chances of outgrossing the original X-Men if that number holds up.
