I still think GL will turn out to be more frontloaded by Saturday and will not have as great IM, though I am sure Father's Day will help its weekend and allow it to cross $55m mark....I think it will do $58m-$59m with this number.

Looks like Kung Fu Panda 2 will stay ahead of The Hangover: Part II from now on.

I have no plans on seeing it in theaters, I can tell it looks bad without seeing it basing it on reviews and the trailers. When only 20% of critics like a movie I think it has to be bad.

Because the critics are always right? Your opinion on a movie that you have not seen has no bearing on what others think about the movie they HAVE seen.

I have never seen a movie that was this panned by critics that I have enjoyed. And generally movies that are this hated have bad wom and fail at the Box office.

By thew way, the first The Hangover managed 52 days in a row above $1 million. Bridaysmaids is at 35 days now with at least ten more days being certain. Let's see how many it can manage.

You mean the way the latest Pirates movie will be a billion dollar grossing flop because it got poor critical reception?

Green Lateran is getting trashed worse than that. Its reviews are razzie type reviews. Even if it opens in the 50 million range, I think it will have bad legs and it will make less than X-Men FC.

Transformers 2 had worse reviews, and yet it went on to gross 400 million dollars. Clash of the Titans had equally poor reviews and finished just a couple million shy of 500 million worldwide. Critics aren't always right.

I used to think this way until i saw Speed Racer, a film trashed by critics and most people and flopped at the b.o, yet i saw it on HBO HD one day and i was blown away, bought the blu ray 2 days later.

Speevy, while well-reviewed movies can tank Pirates 4 and Transformers 2 are bad examples because they got by on intertia. And I mean, the newest Pirates movie is making worldwide bank, not U.S. bucks, and worldwide gross is not a barometer for quality, but the appeal of the stars and genre.



Yeah, but if any comic book franchise is shorthand for "geeky" more than X-Men, it's Green Lantern.

Same goes for domestic gross.

I'm talking about how reviews do not always correlate with how the movie performs at the box office. Critics are just people with opinions. And in many cases the general public has not agreed with the opinions of those 200 critics on RT.

the point is just because a film is trashed does not mean it cannot be entertaining to some or appealing to some.


TF2 got trashed by critics but many people are entertained by such things.

Alright, let me put it this way. Overseas box-office is more of a machine. It's not that this sort of thing doesn't happen over here, but it's just that with things like language barriers, political clout, and the sheer expense and effort of penetrating those markets, means that qualities that we see as "easy sells" mean more overseas. So that is to say, just because Pirates 4 made a billion dollars doesn't mean people like it, it means people liked the idea of it, or the idea of Johnny Depp. But yes, the machine does work like that in the U.S. too. And my point is, while reviews and box-office don't always correlate, bringing sequels into the argument is an extra-moot point. What I'm trying to say it's let's not use examples that are not only critic proof, but audience proof was well.

Green Lantern is in a more precarious position. And while comic books are slightly critic proof, the ones with better reviews have historically done better than those that haven't. I mean, occasionally you'll get a Fantastic Four/Hulk dynamic, but it's not like the 300 million (or even 200 million) club is filled with the panned entries.

You do realize unless there is a significant amount of people/reception saying the movie is great, there is no reason to think otherwise when a movie is critically bashed?

This isn't a Taken, or a Proposal or even a Hangover 2. Or at least, not yet. RT audience rating dropped 9% already to 72%.

Critics are never always right but I fail to see why a person cannot judge a movie of its quality when there is nothing to suggest the opposite notion. There's a reason why there's something called marketing. If that doesn't make you want to see it or cannot convince you or shows you how mediocre it is, it has to be judged. You can't say "YOU HAVEN'T SEEN SAW 56539, YET ANOTHER MOVIE, ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS 4564 SO SHUT THE FUCK UP TIL YOU HAVE" the world/people/opinions don't work that way.
