Charlie and the Chocolate Factory thoughts
When they announced the CatCF remake last year, to star Johnny Depp, I was so excited about it, and thought it would be a huge hit...
Until I recently saw the trailer. Ewwwwwwww. It looks like JD is using Michael Jackson as his model for Willy Wonka. I repreat, ewwwwwwwwww. That was easily one of the most disapointing trailers I have ever scene. Creepy. The last time I got this kind of vibe from the trailer for a kidflick was Cat in the Hat. I'm interested in hearing what you all think, and I couldn't find a CatCF thread, so I hope it's OK that I started one.
My thoughts? Bombs away!

I'm not really up to speed on it, which tells you my interest level. Are they going the musical route like the original with Gene Wilder did? I read the book when I was a kid, and the original covered it pretty good. I don't think a remake was needed, and I doubt it was in high demand. If it's a good family movie, I'm sure it will perform. Freaky Friday didn't need remade, but it was, and cleaned up at the BO. I'm sure I'll be skiiping it, regardless.

I'm hoping it's very good. I would love to see a really well made version with updated special effects.

Burton is one of my favorite directors. There's no way I'm missing this film.
I was upset that Scott Frank's screenplay was tossed out but John August is a good writer as well. I understand that this verison will be more faithful to Dahl's book.

It doesn't look that good to me. Tim Burton could of did so much better. The trailer is very disappointing.

This one will not be a musical. My impression from the trailer, (keeping in mind that this is a Tim Burton film,) is that they are going *WEIRD* with it. (Cause, Duh, Tim Burton.)
Here's a link to the teaser: Wonka Teaser
This one is kind of psychodelic with a heavy 60's vibe to it. But I recently saw another trailer that featured much more JD in it. He's playing the character using a soft, effeminate voice, ghostly pale skin and an I-never-really-grew up feel. I wonder how that will go over?
Remakes can be hit or miss. With Freaky Friday they hit because of Jamie Lee Curtis. Disney has another remake coming out soon for Herbie the Love Bug, which, surprise, surprise, stars Lindsey Lohan. Is there any Disney movie Lindsey Lohan won't remake?[/url]

I thought this was a continuation and NOT A REMAKE. My impression was that Charlie from the first Willy Wonka is all grown up now and owns the chocalate factory. Im not sure where people get the idea that its a remake

I think this will be alot like Big Fish ... except odder.
The ONLY reason I have faith in this movie is Burton, I feel he can do a good job, and while the trailer is over the top and creepy, I am hoping the movie will be the propper blend of the out of this world and story. Similar to big fish.

John August also adapted Big Fish, so it should have some of the same feel.

I didn't know that. Now my anticipation has rised a little for this movie. I loved Big Fish!
