I liked it. Laughed quite a bit. But it's not nearly as ground-breaking or barrier-busting as has been claimed. All it proved to me is that women can be just as gross and awkward as men. Which is fine. I'll take it over shit like Valentine's Day and No Strings Attached any day.
And man, even when he's playing an asshole, Jon Hamm is still super charming. The guy can seduce anyone.

I'm gay and I wasn't attracted to him . I was incredibly attracted to the cop character though.

 Re: Bridesmaids
Hilarious, heartfelt film. Lives up to the hype. For one, the cast is excellent. Kristen Wiig, who I've recently complained is overexposed, put any foolish doubts I had to rest quickly and firmly. She's simply terrific here, delivering an incredibly spirited comic performance laced with legitimate grit and moments of dramatic intensity. This is obviously her big transition from Saturday Night Live cast member/solid supporting player to undeniable movie star. Everyone else is good, too. Maya Rudolph, completely graceful as the quiet, genial bride-to-be. Rose Byrne, nicely bitchy and Stepford-esque. Melissa McCarthy steals scenes without mercy. Jon Hamm proves he's a good sport. Everyone on the screen has appealing chemistry, and the fun they're having together is crystal clear and rather intoxicating. The film is powered by the good vibes they create. As is the case with many films from the House of Apatow, regardless of the director (Judd himself, Greg Mottola, David Gordon Green, or, in this case, Paul Feig), Bridesmaids can be accused of being overlong. Did this need to last over two hours? No. Yet, as is, again, often the case with Apatow productions, I didn't especially mind the length. From a distance, it's definitely overlong, yet I enjoyed these characters, and I enjoyed following them (and the film) on slightly odd tangents. I savored the slightly-longer-than-necessary character beats. A good chance to use the old Ebert line: no good movie is too long, and no bad movie is short enough. Bridesmaids is a good movie.

A- I'm fairly impressed you enjoyed it, but certainly very glad . I agree about the length. It didn't bother me one bit. There's really nothing I'd want to cut out. I liked spending time with these characters too much to care.

 Re: Bridesmaids
Did anyone else pick up on the "George Glass" Brady Bunch reference? That was the name Jan made up for her fake boyfriend, and in Bridesmaids Kristen Wiig told Hamm that was the guy she was seeing or something. This made me LOL during Bridesmaids, but nobody else in the theater did. I'm guessing I'm the only one who picked up on that.

 Re: Bridesmaids
I thought she just said "Glass" because Jon Hamm was holding a glass when she needed to come up with a lie, Keyser Söze-style.

 Re: Bridesmaids
That is why she said it. But it was also the name of Jan's fake boyfriend in the Brady Bunch movie. You cannot tell me nobody involved in Bridesmaids knew that .

Even if it is an intentional nod, it's not especially hilarious.

People who laugh out loud to signify they caught a small reference are lame.

Yeah I got it and she said it just like she did in THE BRADY BUNCH too. It was hysterical.

BRIDESMAIDS
This was a very fun picture. I really enjoyed all the leads. Wiig was great and the girl from Mike & Molly is absolutely insane. There were about 3 parts of the film that are just outrageously funny. I'd love to hear a dvd commentary of this picture.

 Re: Bridesmaids
Judd Apatow has produced an impressive amount of comedies that are genuinely funny thanks to having genuine characters, and Bridesmaids is no exception. Bridesmaids works because it deftly combined comedy and character moments. Some people say that Apatow's movies are too long, and while I hear them, I also like how Bridesmaids is allowed to draw out scenarios for maximum laughs where many lesser comedies would prematurely pull the plug. I laughed in disbelief at how far Bridesmaids went with its funniest skits, which were all the funnier for the film having the patience to explore its characters a little bit more than most.
Finally, while I don't know if this will have a lasting impact on the fight towards female equality in a massively uneven playing field like Hollywood cinema, it's such a breath of fresh air to see so many women given so much to do. The whole cast brings the funny, and Melissa McCarthy in particular absolutely kills it. In a broken system that tries to push Jay Baruchel as a lead actor, one gets the sense that in a less prejudiced industry she would have already broken out to headlining comedies.

 Re: Bridesmaids
There are some hilarious moments in this. I loved when Kristen Wiig starts speaking in spanish during her speech, and the whole plane scene ("I had a vision last night that this plane went down. You were in it." - died laughing). For a chick flick, this is pretty damn funny overall. I really enjoyed it.
