Since 1997, I believe. But, I don't think that means much. Look at the openings for all the Batman movies.
Batman: $40,489,746
Batman Returns: $45,687,711
Batman Forever: $52,784,433
Batman & Robin: $42,872,606
All movies raked in above $40 million. It's hard to believe that Batman Begins, being released in a time where attendance at movie theaters is higher than the 90's, will score lower than $40 million. There are hardcore Batman fans out there, and this can easily do $40 million. I mean, Terminator 2 came out in 1991, and Terminator 3 came out in 2003, but did that do bad? No.

I'm certain The Ring Two and xXx 2 will make it. I can see Robots going either way.

I'll stop predicting movies forever if The Ring Two doesn't make $40 million. That's an easy landmark, considering The Grudge did it.

Wow, xXx2? I don't know a lot of people that really liked that movie, just thought it was OK. Vin Diesel was part of the coolness of it. It was kind of a forgettable movie after awhile...

People were saying the same stuff about 2 Fast 2 Furious. This is the type of action movie that will attract the average teen. Plus, it will be so frontloaded, that alone will largely push it to 40m+ opening weekend.

Yeah but the Fast and the Furious became a film that defined 2001 because it gave a peak inside street racing and it caught on (don't ask me why), all XXX was a spy flick.
In conclusion, I do not see XXX making 40 mil

That's cause moviegoers were stupid enough to fall for this... Ever notice how The Grudge, The RING, Ju-On and now The RING II all focus on the same thing: A chick with long stringy jet black hair and white face with dark eyes that looks waterlogged?? Ooooooo, sounds real scary... :-#

I honestly can't imagine why it's so loved, I really can't??? I think teens are willing themselves to be scared cause there hardup and haven't seen a good horror movie and will settle for just about anything that resembles Japanese Horror..

Emmm....JU ON was made about 7 years ago....you can't include that with GRUDGE and RING (2002). Because no one went to see it when it was in limited release last year.
THE RING made $129,000,000
THE GRUDGE made $110,000,000
THE RING TWO is going to make $100,000,000+
So yeah, the majority obviously love japanese horror.
This will be proven when THE RING TWO opens over $40M.

The originality between the 3 movies you listed is sad to say the least.. If you don't see The RING II, just rent The RING and you've pretty much seen The RING II..

xXx was a huge hit on DVD even if it wasn't quite as successful as TFATF (which was fifth in 2001 I believe). It's going to be so frontloaded, that it would only need about 90m, or less, in total to open with 40m. You don't think it has that much in it?

I'd go as far as saying that Fantastic Four is a lock, simply because this summer doesn't look exciting at all and there 'bound to be more $40+ million openers than we suppose and Fantastic Four seems like a perfect choice. It's lighthearted, summer fun. I mean it's one of Marvel's "biggies". Look at their previous biggies:
Daredevil opened to $40+ million in February
The Hulk opened to $62 million
X-Men opened to $54 million back in 2000
X2 opened to ~$85 million
I don't even need to mention Spider-Man and its sequel.
I don't see why F4 should do any worse than at least Daredevil that managed a $40 million opening in February.
