X-Men: First Class - 180 mil. Club
While I chose a specific number--180 mil.--the real message of this club is, X-Men: First Class will NOT be the lowest grossing X-Men film. Wolverine made 179 mil. This one will match it and go a bit further.
For one, I bet it'll be a better film. While there were a few reports of re-shoots, it doesn't have a cloud over it the way Wolverine did--for God's sake, the movie was on the Internet and being panned by fans a month before it came out.
Second, this will have the full benefit of those glorious summer weekdays people here are always fawning over.
Third, and this may be more illusory, but I feel there's a strong appeal here, with or without Wolverine. Magneto, Professor X, Mystique, etc. are almost as iconic (or just as iconic), and their combined presence in this origin story more than compensates for the absence of Hugh Jackman. The trailers have been great at conveying the concept and establishing a connection with the well-received Bryan Singer films.
So, who's in? First Class will out-gross Origins: Wolverine!

I'm in. Can't see how this does any worse than Wolverine, and it looks fun.

Re: X-Men: First Class - 180 mil. Club
Y'know, I originally lowballed this one at opening around 50 million, but the ads have been really good. It's the only superhero flick coming from a pre-established franchise, and Wolverine's WOM wasn't toxic.
That said, X-Men sequels all have very short legs, and this should be no exception. If it makes 180 million, it'll need to open to 75 million. And while I could see this being a solid hit, I'll be very, very impressed if it pulls that off. And not to be a nitpicker, but some schools aren't out until mid-June.
Lastly, and I'm exhausted and too tired to go through a list, but how often do prequels really overperform? This isn't like Star Wars where there's tons of pent-up demand.
So at this point, I'm going to go with no... But I won't be shocked if this club wins!

What's your current total gross prediction, MovieDude? Around 150 million?

I've got it at 140 million on the KJ, but I'll acknowledge that's a bit low. If it got a 2.3 multiplier that'd only be 60 million opening weekend. I guess I see it falling somewhere between 150-165...

That's what makes this more pathetic.

This will be the 2nd weakest of the big four. I see it doing between $110 and $140 million.

Re: X-Men: First Class - 180 mil. Club
I think we are comparing apples to oranges here. I don't think this will be the weakest considering that this is 5th movie. I don't expect this to do as great but if other superhero movies (which are first ones) are in vicinity of 30m-40m from this and it comes last I don't think this will be called weakest.

Re: X-Men: First Class - 180 mil. Club
I have heard from so many people around my place being excited for X-Men even though they don't want to see Thor (after insistence that the movie is great). Though this is OS market I think awareness is there and probably a little better anticipation.
Even though Wolverine came couple years ago the ensemble of the classic X-Men was last seen 5 years ago, specially Prof Xavier and Magneto, so that could also be a factor.
Meaning the film even with a subsuded opening will have strong legs.
Even so, the strong buzz will likely make the many X-men fans notice and came out and watch this.
Really thinking about this film should have gotten a much more high profile release...

In. This will be the start of a whole new X-Men franchise. I'd much rather see Prof. X and Magneto fight the commies than more origin stories or a continuation of Ratner's Last Stand.
$80M opening, $190M total.
Let's not forgot that Wolverine leaked on the internet a full month before its release date. I think it would have opened to $100M if not for that.
