I don't have high expectations for Conan, but I don't quite buy into a Jonah Hex comparison either. For one, Hex had a prime June release date, amidst lots of big players. Conan has a more comfortable mid-August release date. Plus, steampunk-western-superhero is a way harder sell than a simple fantasy action movie. And Conan the Barbarian in all of its incarnations (novels, films) is way more famous than the Jonah Hex comics.

I'm not sure an "R" rating will help it much though. Audiences will have plenty of better action/adventure movies to feast on this summer. It might not bomb quite as badly as I'm predicting, but I may as well take a chance . The Box Office always has some casualties.

I'm sold on Conan simply because it has Jason Momoa as the title character. He played Ronan on Stargate Atlantis and was my favorite character on the show. I don't think it will break out huge or anything, but I think it has a decent shot at a 20M opening 50M finish, with a decent run OS as well.

No way it opens to 20 Million, IMO.
