Whose had the worst career drop?
Kind of like, who used to be completely talented, or well liked and then just stopped doing it. My vote would have to be Cuba Gooding Jr, comingsoon.net is featuring a new film with him and Christian Slater (Another drop off, but he at least had drug problems and arrests)
The only other person I can think of that went this bad was Travolta from Grease to basically Pulp Fiction with maybe 2 decent performances throughout.
Val Kilmer would be another as well, apart from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and some smaller supporting roles, his starring roles have been pretty awful, as well being about 100 lbs overweight now.
Any others out there.

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
Gooding Jr takes the cake.
Alicia Silverstone was poised to go big time after Clueless but kind of disappeared.
Maybe Hilary Swank after M$B
Sharon Stone also comes to mind.

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
Heath Ledger. He completely disappeared after that Oscar win.

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
Val Kilmer certainly sprang to mind first.
Maybe Ryan O'Neal? He was on the top of the world for a while--Love Story, Paper Moon, Barry Lyndon (!), A Bridge Too Far--but fizzled.

Sharon Stone also comes to mind. I acted in a movie with Alicia Silverstone, she was still pretty good, and no ego. I think Batman and Robin hurt her and Chris O'Donnell certainly (He's lucky he was able to barnacle onto NCIS Los Angeles)

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
Hilary Swank definitely. And she even won a second Oscar! But she's a solid enough actress that she could win a third someday, but she'll never be mainstream.

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
Joaquin'll return easily enough, I bet. The whole (fairly self-indulgent) celebrity-deconstructing Borat bit went sideways when almost no one saw I'm Still Here, but he's such a tremendous actor. He'll give one great performance and be 100 percent in the club again.

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
Fucking Eric Bana! He was great in Troy and Hulk, among others. But he's completely dropped off the circuit.
Others: Viggo Mortensen, Martin Lawrence, Seth Green, Matthew Lillard, and Josh Hartnett, obviously. Neve Campbell is in Skyscraper, but before that was she missing for 10 years? And where the fuck is Steve Martin these days? He's still able-bodied. I thought he'd be making Cheaper by the two-Dozen by now.

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
This is a similar thread like, stars who's career went nowhere.
There's a bunch of names mentioned in that thread that are coming to my mind to mention here.
But on I just checked, where did Tobey Maguire's career really go since playing Spiderman last, over 10 years ago. I guess he's been too busy playing poker.

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
He was in The Great Gatsby. And he was never EVER "star material" anyway. He should never have even got the Parker gig. And I think this thread and that thread are seeking different contestants, although the line is thin. Eddie Murphy could go in this thread, but not in the other, for example. Whereas Josh Hartnett could go in both. Ya' get me, blood?

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
Yeah, and I agree, either of the topics are interesting too.
I think Maguire was considered a star at the time of Spiderman 2 and 3, no less than Bana was.
Which of them had the bigger career drop, Im not sure, in also trying to think of better examples. Eddie Murphy is indeed one, but it's dropped off from where? I feel he pretty much gradually declined and not suddenly which is what I'm looking as the best answer for here.

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
If Murphy went back to stand up, or did a raunchy comedy. It would be huge. This 70s comedy with him Wesley Snipes and Chris Rock sounds like it will do well.
I guess the more point of this thread (7 years later thanks Algren) was an actor who didn't change paths, but really an actor that was given opportunities and just fell off the earth.
I think I'm still in the Cuba Gooding Jr. Camp, Travolta for all of the 80s. Bruce Willis has to be so grateful that Glass is coming out. Death Wish should have been doing Equalizer numbers, and that didn't even open to it's Friday.

Kevin Spacey. Haven't seen him at all in about a year.

Jim carrey comes to mind also, when was the last time he had a hit? I consider D&D2 a dissapointment, i think his next movie will be a sonic the hedgehog movie, is that right?

Re: Whose had the worst career drop?
It's always interesting to see star power change. Julia Roberts didn't have one $100 m + hit that she wasn't part of an ensemble for 17 years after Erin Brockovich. Then Wonder last year was a break out for her. Find the right film for people and they can have a comeback.
Gooding Jr.'s issue was he was never a "star" as much as his role felt like a pop culture gimmick with everyone saying one line. If Tom Cruise weren't in that movie I'm not sure if any of us would have known about the movie...
