Good BOM is back up , after being down for several, so I am able to update my derby peredictions for this week.

It only work for me for a few minutes just long enough to updated my predictions. Just right after I made that post it was working for me, it was down again and stopped working for me.

I usually put rough estimates on Tuesday, didn't do that this week. :pinch:

I'm glad this screw up is happening this weekend rather than next when Fast Five comes out.

I've asked Ray is if it will be cancelled altogether this week. Waiting a second reply, but the first he sent last night confirmed that if the site gets back up by early today then he didn't see a reason why he couldn't extend the deadline.

I don't think the site will be getting back in time though...

As of right now, the site is up and the derby says contest closed at 230 entries...

Didn't look like the deadline was extended.

Only 2 of the top 10 players in the yearly race entered the predictions in time.

If they close it, it's not really fair for the people who did actually predict. I think they should keep it open.

Well it's not fair for people who wait to predict until they have decent information, and the deadline says Thursday at midnight, but the site was unavailable for a whole day.

So what, we have to make a placeholder entry every week asap after the contest opens in case the site is down for the rest of the week?

Well, if we're going to miss a week, I'm happy this is the one since the range for the openers isn't big, and the holdovers aren't difficult to predict either (BOM's averages are likely close to the actuals for a number of them), so the advantage for people who analyze the stats more closely is small. It'll be a high scoring week, and I prefer it's one of those weeks that we miss than a tough and more unpredictable week.

It's not fair for either parties.

It would be more unfair to count the week as it rewards something more than just the ability to predict (time in this case). For Omni/Corpse, for example, it would be very unfair to lose the yearly race for something completely outside their control.

Also this is way different from a case say you're always predicting on 1am PST on Friday but one week BOM decided to enforce the midnight clock to cause you to miss; in that case you're taking the risk yourself by assuming something BOM isn't guaranteeing by the rule.

The most fair thing to do is just extend the deadline, but I don't know how well that will work out.

Not a huge derby player, but I think the extension is just as unfair.

There are plenty of people who can't access the internet now, have work, think the deadline is over, etc.

There will still be plenty of players who aren't able to get predictions in, while those who have been checking back will be rewarded. The fair thing would be to cancel the game this week.

I still think it would be most fair to cancel the week altogether, since extending the deadline still gives a competitive disadvantage to users who couldn't be here normally on Friday morning. This is also Good Friday, meaning additional chance that people could be out instead of sitting in front of their computers. But oh well.

Agree, they really should have cancelled. I sent my opinion to them nicely, that's all I can do. But this is at least an improvement. Maybe they will be generous with the actual close time too...

Just noticed we're going from most played game of the year to least played in one week.

And it's closed on the dot. 310 predictions. Among the players in the yearly chart, Scott, Remus, and DoctorWu missed the week. :(
