Lucky you. I won free tickets this week but the only movies I haven't seen and are currently playing are Sucker Punch, I Am Number 4, Limitless and Battle: LA. I went with Limitless in the end because it is supposed to be the best of the bunch. I'd maybe check out Hop, but I won't be seeing that one in theaters as it's dubbed In Croatian. LOL.

After the recent successes of Unknown, The Adjustment Bureau, Limitless, and Lawyer (to a lesser extent), I'm curious to see if the older demographic will show up for Source Code.

I hope to see both this weekend. If I only see one I'm going with Insidious and will catch Source Code later.

Notfabio reported Hop is doing better than Wimpy last week. Source Code is doing a little better than Wimpy today, while Insidious is tied with it. Seems pretty good for Hop.

Easter bunnies never fail....we are talking about rabbits here, favorite pets, one of the most adorable animals and it is Easter. After seeing the film the kids will definitely eat this up (no pun intended), though it will be a long 95 minutes for adults as the movie is not funny (AT ALL). Don't know why'd they cast adults when this movie was meant for children and the story is way better having a 5-6 year old kid rather than Mr. Marsden who is still learning how to act.

I underestimated Hop because of the bad reviews and Rio opening soon. I guess parents will still take kids to a film that tortures them.

Early results show Universal's live action-animated hybrid Hop overperforming in its box office debut.

The movie could gross as much as $10 million on Friday, based on strong matinee business (18% of kids are out of school for spring break).

Some box office observers estimated that Hop would open in the low $20 million range; it looks now like it will do well more than that, and could go north of $30 million for the weekend. If so, it would be another win for Universal's animation footprint after Despicable Me surprised observers to open with $56 million in July.

Rival studios say Universal's aggressive marketing campaign is paying off, with tracking picking up in recent days.

Hop wasn't the only new film doing well in early numbers. Summit Entertainment's Source Code and FilmDistrict's debut title Insidious were both performing in line with expectations, or better, by late Friday afternoon.

Source Code should gross in the $15 million to $18 million range for the weekend, while Insidious should gross $8 million or more, a win since it was an acquisition.

Fox's Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules was holding its own, despite family competition from Hop, and should stay high up on the box office chart

I'm hoping INSIDIOUS is able to get at least 10 Million.

Source Code
7:30 show, 300-seat theater, 80% full.

Trailers
Priest
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
The Hangover Part II (HUGE reaction)
Conan the Barbarian
The Three Musketeers

Movie
Source Code is a crackerjack thriller that sustains tension throughout. Director Duncan Jones manages to make the fact that the audience is repeatedly thrust into the same 8-minute passage of time welcome instead of tiresome. Ben Ripley's screenplay is awesome on a technical level, and the film never once cheats its audience. Jake Gyllenhaal is a perfect choice for the lead, as he is wholly believable and sympathetic (and the fact he's so darn attractive doesn't hurt!). Michelle Monaghan is charming enough to not make it far-fetched Gyllenhaal's character would take a liking to her so quickly, while Vera Farmiga is wonderful in a role that is literally in the background but never feels that way. It's just really nice to see a film that contains your share of explosions and typical action scenes that also makes you think at the same time. Definitely my favorite movie of the year so far. A-

I saw Source Code at 8pm. It was sold out or very close to it. A diverse group of people, from teenagers to senior citizens. A lot of the crowd applauded at the end. The trailers included Conan the Barbarian, Fast Five, Hanna, and The Three Musketeers.

Then I saw Insidious at 10:35. Decent crowd. The theatre was maybe 60% full. Mostly teens. They seemed to dig the movie. They shut up, for one. ;) And there were lots of gasps, screams, etc. The only trailers shown were Your Highness and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.
