trixster wrote: swhi (who has turned into a great poster) really hit the nail on the head. The whole film felt solely constructed out of references to other movies, which really only works if you're Tarantino. Take John Murphy essentially plaigarizing his own 28 Days Later and Sunshine scores. Awesome pieces of music, but they make the scenes where they were used feel like parts of other, better movies. Which they really were. just saw this on DVD and I was enjoying the reviews here to this fool, Trixie, spewed some worthless shit. Please stick to just posting titles and nothing else. ***** Anyway, this movie is far from references to just other movies...and was totally KICK ASS! Anyway, just glad that no other fool here, so far, was stupid enough to post a negative review.

 Re: Kick-Ass
It's a pretty bad movie.

I think it started off with a good premise - the whole "what if a real person tried to be a Superhero" angle, but by the end, the movie went away from that and turned into a Superhero cliche with superhuman stunts, jet packs, and just general craziness.
I also was lukewarm on the idea of a 12 year old action heroine who talked and acted like an adult. I know a lot of people liked that, but it just never felt right to me. Part of it was that it took the movie farther away from realism (the part I liked).
Anyhow, I wouldn't say it was horrible, it just felt like a movie that got derailed from its initial - and much better - premise. I agree 100% with your review.

Watched this for the first time since the theater. Was better than I remembered. Absolutely brilliant.
And the whole scene with the Kick Ass "reveal" until Nic Cage dies might be one of the best scenes I've EVER seen.

And the whole scene with the Kick Ass "reveal" until Nic Cage dies might be one of the best scenes I've EVER seen. That scene, while poignant, exciting, and technically strong, makes absolutely no sense within this movie and was the major turning point that fucks up the film.

 Re: Kick-Ass
B+
For me, the finale didn't quite live up to the first two acts, which were brilliant. Hit Girl is a really great character and I look forward to seeing more of her. And it's a very funny movie.

 Re: Kick-Ass
Just watched it again since the first time. I really love this movie. It has great use of music and violence. I always feel odd giving a movie like this a great grade because of its over the top nature, but if you just want 2 hours of pure entertaininment, this is the film to check out. Hit Girl is a great character and makes the titular character look like a faggot. I think that Big Daddy might not be dead. We never see him die and this film does live in a world where a 12-year old and brave wimp can wipe out a drug mob, so you never know. Nic Cage is pretty good as is Mark Strong as the mob boss. The mob boss's son, Red Mist, is a complete waste of space, though. Dave's friends are also very funny. There's nothing here that I rolled my eyes at, and that's what I find remarkable. I usually always find something, but it was all very cool.
I hope the sequel is of the same quality, and I'm sure it'll be thrice as big financially.
