Inglourious Basterds VS No Country For Old Men
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/vine/show ... ?t=2264928Which is better?? You see, I was over at Rottentomatoes and there's a Poll of the same question and the results are very close with 54% preferring Inglorious Basterds to 50% or so for No Country For Old Men.. Do you agree?? Myself, I just watched No Country For Old Men for the 1st time the other day and I thought it was Brilliant, but with such an abrupt ending which made me wonder if the Coen's would ever consider a sequel like the novel to continue this??

Re: Inglorious Basterds VS No Country For Old Men
Two of my favourite films, I'd struggle to choose between them. Big fan of both Tarantino and Coen bros and walked out of the theatre with love of film renewed both times. No Country is more absorbing while Basterds is more entertaining. Both have superb oscar winning performances. Love both.

I was watching the extras portion of the No Country For Old Men DVD(which I never watch stuff like this on any other DVD) and they had the "Making of" the movie and the Coen's considered this movie a western/horror movie.. Can't think of any other combination like that in past movies?? Also hearing and seeing Javier Bardem talking relaxed and normal out of character was sort of weird to.. He did receive an Oscar for this, didn't he or was it Tommy Lee Jones???

Re: Inglorious Basterds VS No Country For Old Men
I prefer Tarantino flicks so I picked IB naturally. I love the film and all the characters and I didn't realize how much of it was in foreign languages and that was a plus to me.

Re: Inglorious Basterds VS No Country For Old Men
Spoiler alert
Inglorious Basterds is a lot of fun, and total wish fulfillment for a history/film-loving Jew like me. That said, I vote for No Country for Old Men. The editing and shot compositions are virtually flawless. So much is told with a minimum of dialogue and music.
Both films are great, but extremely violent. While they each stage their killings quickly and brutally, I prefer No Country for Old Men for making the violence less 'fun' and focusing on the consequences. On the other hand, Inglorious Basterds violent finale is pretty amazing for subverting the way violence in done. In an age where suicide bombers are considered some of the worst evildoers out there, (and have attacked the Jewish state of Israel on numerous occasions) it is pretty brash to have a bunch of Jewish soldiers blow themselves up while shooting the shit out of Der Fuhrer.

Good Poll with NCFOM leading with 57%.. I wonder if the Coen's would ever consider a sequel to this or for once, leave it as a standalone film???

Some of the scenes are chilling in their simplicity (Bardem leaving Kelly Mcdonald's house and wiping his feet). Dont think there will be a sequel to this.

I loved Basterds, but No Country is superior in every way, shape and form.

Yeah, I sort of feel people gawk over Tarrantino cause of his name more than it being about his movies, that anything with Tarrantino's name attached is gold to some whether the movies good or not.. No Country For Old Men really is in a league unto itself..

Re: Inglorious Basterds VS No Country For Old Men
No Country along with Zodiac is one of my top 3 of 2007. Basterds is my favourite of 2009 but that was a much weaker year than 2007 quality wise.

Um considering the Coen's have never directed a sequel in their entire repertoire not sure what the for once means. I think it's interesting these films get compared considering how their almost opposites of each other, NCFOM is about as minimalist as it gets and Inglorious Basterds is, well, not. I don't think there's any comparision in quality really. IB was an excellent, entertaining flick but NCFOM remains one of my very favorite from the past decade. Also Weitz performance does not in any way rival Bardem's.

An absolutely ridiculous notion I can't begin to understand, but... okay.

Bardem: Ridiculous haircut and the same 'I haven't shat for five days face' during the whole movie.
Waltz: Sarcastic, ironic, witful and in four languages none the less.
I think the choice is clear.

I think the choice is clear. Yeah, No Country For Old Men pretty much takes it, even the poll results are a given..

Anton Chigur isn't as showy of a villian, but he's much scarier.
