At this point, for Nolan to receive any awards attention for The Dark Knight Risdes the movie would have to outgross Avatar and get better reviews than The Social Network.

And Batman better dies at the end of the film. In a concentration camp.

Someone in the Academy realized that Inception was yawn-inducing and was colossally stupid. As are most Nolan movies.

No, it has actually very much to do with the post above.

Because I thought Inception was preposterous? Like I was the only one.

Even if you think that, that argument doesn't fly when Inception got 8 nominations total, including Picture.

...which is precisely why this thread is ridiculous

he got a fucking screenplay nomination

seems like there were just five directors that were included on more ballots

or maybe the 2000+ actors that vote for oscars just realized that hey, his earnings are enough of an award.

It's not O'Russell.

David O. Russell is the most deserving of the five (six) nominated directors. You also can't forget the very compelling, retro-style boxing scenes. And he drew terrific performances from the entire cast, including a lot of Lowell locals.

lolololol

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

The directors voted, not the actors. I think the actors vote only for acting awards and Picture.

And he's got three DGA noms and no BD nom. Doesn't that seem fishy?

well, then it's not the academy, it's directors. maybe they're jealous.

In a way it reminds me of Ang Lee. DGA is the best predictor for winning Best Picture. 16 of the last 20 DGA winners have won BP.

Of the four that did not, two were Ang Lee films (Brokeback and Crouching Tiger).

Rob Reiner, actually.

James Cameron? Really, if he can get nominated for two of his worst films (Piranha 2 doesn't count) and with their massive success...

Great find.

It was Jon's. He pointed it out when we discussed if Nolan got snubbed again a while ago.

Nolan's only chance for a nomination lies in non-genre work. Something like Memento could do it. Or Insomnia. Spielberg had a lot of problems early on too.

Spielberg still got a Directing nom for Close Encounters, even though the film didn't get a Picture nom. And then Raiders and E.T. got both.

Also, aren't the directors that vote for the Oscar, by and large, the same ones that make up the DGA? It's weird that Nolan would keep getting recognized by one group and ignored by the other.

DGA has around 13,000 voting members, I think. Whereas there are probably no more than 1,000 directors voting in the Academy.

He has made some great movies, including This is Spinal Tap and last year's Flipped.

You knew this one was coming! :P

Again, works better if you don't know german at all, but I still think Lecter will like it, for whom I posted it.
