Definitely in my top 10 of last year, one of the better historical type Oscar movies I've seen just because it's brimming with life and energy

As for the cinematography, yeah most of the film was set in drab rooms, but I think one of the points is Bertie is sort of an anti hero (not anti-hero ftr) in a less than glorious London. It makes sense both the central setting (Logue's room) and the climax (the mic room) are the opposite of the hero's battlefield, so to speak. Bertie is not warring against Voldemort, just his own nervousness. 1934-1939 is relatively modern for historical films, so it's a modern king's battle so to speak

Great stuff. Colin Firth was brilliant. It wasn't anything amazing, but I enjoyed nearly every aspect of the movie.

I watched it with three friends on a monday night, although I did not pay cause I work at a theater. All three of them did however and quite enjoyed it, it was a far more interesting, exciting, and entertaining selction than Tron: Legacy or plenty of big budget action flicks I've seen this year.
Oh I'm 20 by the way, and my friends watching it were 19.

I just think it's amusing BKB views young people wanting to watch an intelligent and thoughtful historical drama as some sign of the country going downhill or something.

There would be reason to doubt his words if Magnus claimed that he and his ghetto friends went to see something like 'Film socialisme'. In this case, however, the suspicion is quite telling.

I enjoyed the film. It has some very good performances and although slight, fluffy and predictable, it gets the job done, which is to put forward a story of a friendship which transcends class structure.

Its main problem is that its been overhyped by critics and awards groups - much like TSN and Inception.

Your narrow definition of a teenager is essentially a microcosm of many things wrong with our society. Also, you have not seen the movie, how can you define whether or not this movie is exciting? Based on a plot-line and trailer? Please refer to my earlier comment.
p.s. I thank the god I do not believe in that I am not similar to you as a 20 year old and that my friends are nothing like yours. Also I find it pretty pathetic that you would refuse to watch a movie because your friends would tease you.

Most teenagers in this day and age aren't like me or the friends I hang with cause it's a completely different generation Savage.. And I can define whether it's at least worth seeing from trailers and if that doesn't get the job done, then why waste $$$$$ on it???? Aren't the trailers supposed to reel you in to see it???

Yeah it doesn't appeal to the usual teenager but I also can grow an enjoyment for "Oscar" like films. I don't get a boner from terrible special effects and Megan Fox exposing herself on a movie screen like many people my age that go out to see a movie.

It was light, fluffy entertainment. The film was serviceable enough but it fails to completely let you in. It's pretty much just going in one ear and right out the other. I fail to see why Tom Hopper is getting acclaim for his direction here, I thought it was pretty annoying and took me out of the movie from time to time. Firth is good here, though it is far from his best performance. Rush is funny, as is Carter. 7/10

Yes, you instead get a boner when you see a movie get a "certified fresh" on RottenTomatoes (or a negative review from Armond White -- have not studied correlation yet to determine which is better predictor of a jmovies '****' rating)

Total hokum, but it works.

Although that thing makeshift linked to was dead-on about the occasionally baffling mise-en-scène

It had its moments but for the most part was pretty damn dull. Couldn't wait for it to be over. Firth was great though, but he was better in last year's A SINGLE MAN. The directing and camera work were not impressive at all and were oftentimes distracting. The film overall felt sloppy.

An average film in all accounts. It's enjoyable, harmless. The performances are decent, solid. The technical aspects are notable, though a bit on the "too much" side. But...Tom Hooper's direction is so loud, so in-your-face, so obvious, so amateurish, so distracting, so incredibly exhausting, that it becomes almost impossible to see beyond his disastrous work here. Hooper getting recognized for his work here is a joke for me. C-

I loved this. Colin Firth was amazing. The movie had depth and the performances from Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush really elevated the movie for me.

I am not a fan of olden-time movies but I was converted into one when watching this movie. 10/10
