Tron fizzling really gives this an advantage in Visual Effects and other techs. The wild cards are Cinematography (I see Pfister taking the ASC and perhaps even BAFTA and BFCA, but Deakins the Oscar), Editing (half-and-half with TSN), Score (probably the year's most iconic score, but Desplat is due), Art Direction (The King's Speech, Alice In Wonderland, Black Swan, Shutter Island are tough competition and they tend to go period over fantasy/sci-fi).

If Inception does get nominated for an Oscar, it will only be for the same reason that Anne Hathaway and James Franco are hosting - - to keep the teen and twenty something fanboys interested in the Academy Awards, so that they'll continue to watch it when they finally mature.

I'm starting to wonder whether Inception could snatch a Best Make Up nod (for the aging make-up). Not too likely, but not impossible either.

I mean what are the other contenders? Black Swan, Alice and Harry Potter, I assume...It's not TOO unlikely.

So it could get 11 noms afterall.

It's as locked as Transformers or Revenge of the Sith or Matrix Reloaded were.

I win.

I mean, Nolan is one thing, but how do they not nominate this for editing? I wasn't even a huge fan of the movie, but that seems so ridiculous.

The truth??? Cause they didn't think the editing was any good.. That's it.. What more needs to be said about it?? Hell the editing in IRONMAN 2 was better than INCEPTION.. :nope:

Inception's editing not being recognized is the biggest snub of the day next to Nolan being shot down once again. I figured the guy had the win in the bag, never mind just the nomination. The cross-cutting between dream layers in the third act was brilliantly done, as was the rest of the movie. Too bad.

My guess is they watched that third act nonsense in the snow and realized it was a level of incompetence not seen since Cannon's heyday.

And I'm not suggesting the entire movie was that bad. It just felt like a completely different group of filmmakers crafted that random meaningless snowy video game siege. IT WAS SO BAD. Maybe Nolan was busy getting his suits pressed or something.

Yeah, I agree that part was pretty bad, but still...

... Hmm, come to think of it, the scene toward the end of TDK with the hostages in the building is kind of a mess too.

I think the movie can still win four Oscars (Visual Effects, both Sound awards, Art Direction).
