 Re: Black Swan
I saw the camp-like scenes as akin to an actual ballet production, which themselves go over the top with emotion and drama. The score added to that effect nicely, and Portman was brilliant going full on in those. They fit into her downward spiral to madness/'perfection'.

I was about to say with excitement that Goldie expressed his first original opinion, but then I noticed that it was Gopher...

 Re: Black Swan
I enjoyed it a little bit more than I already did on a second view, not that it really needed one. The incredible acclaim it has derived is definitely over the top in my opinion, but it is a very very good film. After a second view I am amazed people can watch this multiple times and try to insist it is dead, pan-face serious. That's quite silly. I won't deny there are elements and pieces of seriousness, but they exist largely to set up the camp and melodrama.

I was kind of not watching movies much for a while. It's only been a few weeks that I've started to get back in the swing of things, mostly with Hawks. I've also got bicycle thieves right now which I'll see very soon.

Also, Bicycle Thieves will change your life. There's a couple before/after's in cinema, and that movie is one of them. Rush in and see Umberto D. as soon as you can!

 Re: Black Swan
Out of all the films that Black Swan could've reminded me of, I wouldn't have expected Superman III to be one of them. The entire movie is like that one (good) scene where good Superman fights drunk Superman in the junkyard. I'm still trying to figure out whether that's a good thing or not.

Is this comparable to Perfect Blue?

10/10 -> A
Simply put - A GREAT MOVIE!
From the opening scene to the end I was gripped by it. I loved every second of it. I saw it two days ago and my mind is still very much intoxicated with it... I'll definitely go and see it at least once more in the theater.

 Re: Black Swan
Finally watched this.
I don't know what to make of it. It's very well-made and Portman does do quite well but I didn't really like it either.
I agree with the campiness that is brought up and how it does balance itself out so that it isn't written off, but I still couldn't really get into it.
For one, I didn't really feel anything at all for Nina. She was a compulsively neurotic and psychotic woman. In a way it is also tragic to see the evolution of the character, who hasn't actually grown up at all and in some ways how achieving perfection beautifully ruins her. I'm not sure I needed to feel for the character though as one never understands a genius, but she was more mechanical and I suppose her transition is a little too quick, as if it were truly inside her when as delusional as she was, it might all have been a hallucination.
Give it a B+ but I'll not watch it again.

Yep. A+
This movie made Inception the second best movie of 2010... I'm such a fail as a Nolan fan but this movie is probably my second favorite film ever.
