 Re: The Golden Globes Winners
I'm glad I didn't watch this.
The opening comedy - 5 min. were funny though!

 Re: The Golden Globes Winners
Seems that Ricky is bothered by the fall out alittle.
Saying he won't do the Globes again as 2 times is enough.
And now even blogging his defense.

 Re: The Golden Globes Winners
I doubt he's that bothered. His fans that liked him before still like him now because it was funny. People who can't take a joke should stay out of public view, far away from scrutiny. Robert Downey Jr, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen came off looking like babies. Plus, Downey can't say he found Gervais mean-spirited and then launch into a riff on sleeping with five women. RDJ is awesome, but come on... they're jokes.

 Re: The Golden Globes Winners
Downey's bitchiness bothers me the most. During his Iron Man/Tropic Thunder/Sherlock Holmes/Due Date career rise, I've seen him make so many self-effacing/"I was such a wild fucker" jokes. Yet Gervais' Betty Ford line at his expense is SO offensive? Really?

At first I thought it was all in good fun, but then the day after indicated otherwise...so who's the bitch?

 Re: The Golden Globes Winners
I read that RDJ actually said more behind the scenes. Something to the extent that it is good to be very funny, but even better if that can be achieved without hurting someone.

 Re: The Golden Globes Winners
Because joking to five women that their best work is achieved through sleeping with him was innocent fun. You just know Angelina didn't like that at all. She looked like "Wtf?" She doesn't seem like someone who can take a good joke.
And please don't mistake my criticism of RDJ for offense. Not only was I not offended, I thought he was the best part of the entire show. I just don't care for hypocrites. It's all in good fun, ain't it, Robert?

 Re: The Golden Globes Winners
Is there seriously backlash against Gervais? These people need to learn how to laugh at themselves a bit. Everything he said was pretty much true anyway. I guess American celebrities are too uptight, waaay worse things are said in many British shows (even American ones) and no one cares.

After reading about it, it seems people weren't that insulted (Hanks/Allen included). Mind you, that doesn't include Tom Cruise or John Travolta, but they don't matter. Even Johnny Depp was clapping when Gervais started joking about The Tourist. Watch it back, he does. And he smiles too. Dude clearly has a sense of humor about himself, which makes him even more awesome.

I thought Gervais was pretty good. Much better than any recent host on any award show I've seen.

 Re: The Golden Globes Winners
Um, RDJ was in on the joke as was Hanks, Allen, Bruce Willis, and a few others. If you look closely RDJ is even laughing quite a bit before he comes in. Gervais talked for an hour on CNN. It doesn't seem like too many were offended. It felt more like an Andy Kaufman of hosting than anything.
I really doubt Tom Hanks and Tim Allen would have been able would have been able to come up with that solid of a two person punchline while from the moment they were introduced to being on stage. They don't even have a joke after that, they go right into the nominations. I'm not saying it was completely staged, but I wouldn't doubt Gervais told them they were going dark.
On the otherhand it felt like DeNiro was on acid. His speech was so bizarre, but very funny at times. He really said all the waiters were deported and most likely Javier Bardem??
