Post Sick of the Oscars?
I for one and completely sick of them. Everything about them anymore just makes me mad and doesn't really suggest what movie was the best that year, but who is the most popular to the academy no matter what the film is like. Also, the friggen thing takes forever for a few awards. Almost 4 hours, WOW, boring. It also usually has a few movies doing well while the others are just on lookers. You can't tell me that M$B and Aviator were the only good movies. They were very good, but I feel other movies do deserve at least a chance. I won't even get into the subject about Giamatti getting snubbed, because I created a topic on that and we all know everyones feelings on that. I feel the Oscars have turned into any poorly executed sequel. Totaly not needed, and just out to make some money and trying to please a certain few. Where has the creativness gone? Everything is so boring with Hollywood anymore, when something does come along its just pushed aside.

I'm somewhere in the middle. I don't think the Academy should select movies based on popular opinion (or box office), just to boost ratings or appeal to the public in general. I don't want them to turn into the People's Choice Awards. But, I also don't want them to become so esoteric that they become like the Emmys were a few years back when they just handed out awards to Frasier for 20 straight years (or it seemed that way).

Overall, I do think the Best Picture nominees were weak this year (all of them), but to be honest it's not like I can think of a lot of pictures the Academy overlooked either. However, I think they do need to lighten up a little and give non-traditional nominees an honest shot, such as the Incredibles or perhaps a straight up comedy. Also, I think they slight certain actors who came from a non-traditional background, such as Jim Carrey. But, that's the way it's always been. I remember back in the 80's when Steve Martin was snubbed for his work in All of Me. When they judge an actor or director based on past work - and not current - that's what bugs me.

I'm more in the middle also, I guess I should have stated that. But, my distaste is growing every year. I would love for the show to be like an hour, hand out some awards, have them thank the fans for once and for more movies to have a chance.

Why thank the fans when you can "thank your best friend and publicist."
