 Pi
Pi Quote: Pi, also titled π, is a 1998 American surrealist psychological thriller film written and directed by Darren Aronofsky. It is Aronofsky's directorial debut, and earned him the Directing Award at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival, the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and the Gotham Open Palm Award. The title refers to the mathematical constant pi. Like most of Aronofsky's films, Pi centers on a protagonist whose obsessive pursuit of ideas leads to severely self-destructive behavior. However, the strong psychosexual elements of the director's later work are not present.

 Re: Pi
Though one can't fail to see Aronofsky's promise*, sadly I can't rate this first film of his higher than...
π out of 5.
(* Even more tragically, the freakishly talented Aronofsky still hasn't fulfilled that dang promise.)

8/10 -> B
Very good and engaging movie. I saw it twice in these past three months. It was even slightly better on the second viewing.

 Re: Pi
Taxi Driver for the age of computers, essentially. And done on a super low budget.

 Re: Pi
Interesting and zany film, it's creative and the lead is a good actor. The story got me pretty hooked for the first half, but in the second half when he gets consumed by his insanity it becomes so much more abstract it's harder to follow. Like with most Aranofsky's films I saw (except Requiem), I wasn't able to get fully on board with it or stay engaged with it for the whole time. They are often equally split between being brilliant and being boring. In the end he has quite a unique style that doesn't disappoint but isn't able to completely convince me either. I like this more than not though.

 Re: Pi
I think this is pretty amazing. More so since it was done on a very limited budget. Definitely showcases the talent of Aranofsky, and his composer-to-go, Clint Mansell. Actors are very good as well.
I can easily see why it would be boring to some, but I thought it was really intense.
8/10.
