Will 127 Hours be nominated for Best Picture?
Though very well-received by critics, Danny Boyle's James Franco-centric survival drama has struggled at the box office and been overshadowed by several other films (Black Swan, The King's Speech, The Social Network) thus far this awards season. It was nominated for Best Actor and Best Screenplay by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, but not Best Picture (Drama) or Best Director. Will 127 Hours still score a Best Picture nod, IYO?

Good question.
Among Fox Seachlight films, Black Swan has certainly overtaken this. That said, I think there could still be room. If The Way Back or another film builds a lot of heat late in the game, it is certainly vulnerable.

I think it's in more than, say, Winter's Bone or something.

Umm, most definitely I'd say. It's in the Top 6, for sure.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

With 10 nominees, no way it is missing, even though it'll likely end up winning nothing.

I wish I could be as confident in this film's assured nomination as a few of you are. I'm starting to suspect the 10-film lineup will be:
Black Swan The Fighter Inception The Kids Are All Right The King's Speech The Social Network The Town Toy Story 3 True Grit Winter's Bone

Black Swan The Fighter Inception The Kids Are All Right The King's Speech The Social Network The Town Toy Story 3 True Grit Winter's Bone 127 Hours is much stronger than The Kids Are All Right I think. What makes 127 Hours seemingly a weak contender is the complete dominance of TSN in BP, BD, BAS categories. Franco has some traction, but Firth is really dominating. But it's showing up in music, cinematography categories here and there. TKAAR doesn't have that of a widespread support. It's all about Benning. 127 is a shoe-in for the 10. Also I think The Town is weaker than 127 Hours... In terms of "power" I'd rank the movies: 1. The Social Network 2. The King's Speech 3. Black Swan 4. True Grit 5. Inception 6. Toy Story 3 7. The Fighter 8. 127 Hours 9. Winter's Bone 10. The Kids Are All Right/The Town/Another Year/ some other crazy Oscar pick

Re: Will 127 Hours be nominated for Best Picture?
I think no at this point. Of the 11 films that seem to be fighting for a Picture slot, this one seems like it's on the shakiest ground.
I'm predicting: Black Swan The Fighter The Kids Are All Right The King's Speech Inception The Social Network The Town Toy Story 3 True Grit Winter's Bone
But 127 Hours would definitely be the first film to make it in the lineup if one of these above doesn't, imo.
