Someone from BOM says the Chinese number is now $10.6m for DH1. Is this right? And how does it compare to HBP's $12.4m 5-day?

Actuals:

Harry Potter 7 - 81m yuan ($12.2m)
Resident Evil 4 (6-day) - 68.5m yuan ($10.3m)

Should reach 250m yuan with that opening.

mtime reported 76m yuan for HP7 on its second week. That's not a great hold as it couldn't manage an increase even though it's 7 days comparing to 3 days for the opening frame.

That's better for HP7. 250m yuan is still achievable, but not much more than that. It will start getting hit pretty hard later this week.

Good for RE4 as well...it is definitely one of the most surprising OS runs this year.

HP7 increased looks good but nothing great, considering xia was expecting it to increase...I guess?

The way China reports its numbers (on a weekly basis), almost all Friday openers would see a second week increase since it would have 7 days comparing to just 3 days for the opening week, and there was very little new competition last week. That's why I wouldn't call HP7's hold great, but it's still fairly good, as we know it's going to be frontloaded like everywhere else.

I need to check, but it's doing quite well comparing to past Washington's films.

Chen Kaige's (陳凱歌) historical drama Sacrifice (趙氏孤兒, pictured) made RMB98 million ($14.7 million) in China last week, for a gross of RMB147.6 million ($22.2 million) by Sunday night.

Comedy Just Call Me Nobody (大笑江湖), which had a stronger opening weekend than Sacrifice, dropped to second place with RMB71 million ($10.7 million), bringing its total to RMB131.9 million ($19.8 million).

Both films face stiff competition with the release of Let the Bullets Fly (讓子彈飛) at midnight tonight starring its director Jiang Wen (姜文), Chow Yun-fat (周潤發), Ge You (葛優) and Carina Lau (劉嘉玲).

Combined, Sacrifice and Nobody represented 87% of box office income last week. The latest Harry Potter and Resident Evil films came in at a distant third and fourth place with 10.5% of box office income.

Post Re: China Box Office (RE4 and HP7)
Producers of Chinese western Let the Bullets Fly (讓子彈飛) are claiming that Jiang Wen's (姜文) film made RMB30.18 million ($4.5 million) in China on its opening day, Thursday 16 Dec.

The film's Hong Kong co-producer, Emperor Motion Pictures (英皇電影有限公司), have stated a slightly lower figure of $4.2 million. The discrepency may be due to the accounting of midnight shows on Wednesday night.

The China-side is now claiming more than RMB40 million ($6 million) income on Friday and RMB60 million ($9 million) on Saturday, which would put the film neck-and-neck with Aftershock's (唐山大地震) record performance.

Feng Xiaogang's (馮小剛) melodrama made RMB36.2 million ($5.4 million) on its Thursday opening in July 2010, also crossing RMB100m on Saturday for takings of RMB180 million ($27 million) over its four-day opening weekend.

Let the Bullets Fly is also enjoying one of the best WOMs for a domestic film in a long long time. This film now has serious potential of setting some records for a Chinese film.

Actual for Let the Bullets Fly: 181.5m yuan in the first four days, or $27.26m. This in fact surpassed what Aftershock earned in its first four days. Simply remarkable.

Post Re: China Box Office (incredible start for Let the Bullets F
In its opening four days in Chinese cinemas, Jiang Wen's (姜文) Let the Bullets Fly (讓子彈飛) made RMB181.5 million ($27.3 million) setting a new record for a local film.

In July, Feng Xiaogang's (馮小剛) Aftershock (唐山大地震), which also opened on a Thursday, made RMB180 million ($27 million) in its opening four days. It ended its run with RMB647.8 million ($97 million).

Bullets faces competition today with the opening of Feng's latest film, If You are the One 2 (非誠勿擾2) starring Ge You (葛優) and Shu Qi (舒淇). The original film made RMB314 million ($47.2 million) on release in Dec 2008.

The second highest grossing film at China's box office last week was Chen Kaige's (陳凱歌) Sacrifice (趙氏孤兒) with RMB37 million ($5.6 million). After 16 days in cinemas, it has made RMB184.6 million ($27.7 million).

Kevin Chu's (朱延平) Just Call Me Nobody (大笑江湖), the early winner at the December box office, made RMB22.7 million ($3.4 million) last week for a current gross of RMB154.6 million ($23.2 million).

After 31 days in theaters, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 has made RMB221.1 million ($33.2 million).
