Post Re: Megamind
Earlier this year Dreamworks Animation brought out it's finest work yet and a true great in animation with How to Train Your Dragon. Though now they've brought out one of their worst with MegaMind. The plot is a good one with the evil doer winning and what happens afterwards but the creators seemed to not stick with what made Dragon work and instead made a silly little kids film with some jokes sometimes that only make the youngest kids laugh. There is not much for older audiences to grasp here that can give them a laugh or smile, though there a couple of notables such as MegaMind's "No You Can't" posters around town that look similar to President Obama's "Yes We Can" campaign posters. The animation is noteworthy but nothing groundbreaking and in the league of some of the studio's previous works. The film also endures typical superhero/villian scenarios that can be seen from far away. Also the use of popular music is overdone and exaggerating during the film. Then there is Jonah Hill who's character Titan looks exactly like, and as fat, as Hill himself. Will Ferrell and Tina Fey do fine voice work but can't save the film's downfalls. The ending does redeem the film a bit and saves it from not being a total failure but in the end Dreamworks Animation has done much, much better. *1/2

Good, Now I don't have to see it.

Anyway, I was confused by the 2 different trailers. I think the 2nd got too complicated.

The first one showed how one got everything and turned out good and became a super hero and the other got nothing and was jealous and turned out bad and was jealous. Etc.....

And the second added so much crap, the good guy wanted a break, the bad guy wanted to do the job of the good guy, etc....

Now it could have touched some of those areas but the second trailer seemed to make it seem much too heavy.

An entertaining, fast-paced, and hilarious animated film. Though not as poignant or rich in character as How to Train Your Dragon, still, in my opinion, 2010's best animated film, Megamind outpaces director Tom McGrath's past animated endeavors, Madagascar and its sequel, with ease. The film plays both as a Will Ferrell vehicle (those who enjoy his live-action films will also enjoy his vocal performance here) and as an homage to various superhero classics, the first Christopher Reeve Superman film in particular. David Cross, Tina Fey (as the Lois Lane-esque Roxanne Ritchi), and Jonah Hill provide Ferrell with unblemished, spirited support, as does Brad Pitt, though his role is smaller than the advertising suggests. His character, the almost-too-noble, lantern-jawed Metro Man, is on screen for no more than fifteen minutes. His absence is the point: after seeming to vanquish his mortal foe, Ferrell's titular supervillain becomes depressed, forced to ponder his place in a world without Metro Man and their epic fights. It's a clever idea--the superhero needs a supervillain, for their image and their own mental health--and it's presented with wit and propulsive energy in Megamind.

It was OK. :|

I would have enjoyed it much better had the commercials not given away the entire plot beforehand. Things that should have been surprises I knew about before I even bought my ticket.

6/10 -> C

It was good. While never overly original, it does manage to be fun at times.

Megamind has some slow parts in the middle where it feels repetitive, but the story is pretty mature and the film features a few surprising twists, even if much of the humor falls flat.
