 Re: The Tech thread
I dont think one store can be a representative of overall sales. I believe it already is doing well internationally. http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and-Wir ... ts-359367/Tmobile has done well with HD7 as well. http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/80113/2 ... iphone.htmSince it just launched in stateside we have to give it few days to get some perspective on its sales. I am not excited by the product as its beta mode with no copy and paste or multi-tasking( essentially iphone 1.0). But potential is there with skydrive , xbox and zune sync.

 Re: The Tech thread
It's going to start slow, just like Android did. We won't know for about 2 years where it's going to stand.

 Re: The Tech thread
It's the first of Windows Phone 7, and WP7 is a total re-do from Windows Mobile. Might as well be the first.

But it's not.
That's like saying Android 2.0 is the first of the Android's.

Yeah, definitely. Because the last Window's Phone definitely wasn't a Window's Phone!

 Re: The Tech thread
The key Chip is that no Windows Mobile application runs on WP7. The two platforms are incompatible and very different, with WP7 being a totally new OS built from the ground up. It doesn't build on Windows Mobile, it doesn't share code with Windows Mobile, it shares only the company that developed it.
Not only that, smartphones have ushered in a new era in phones, one which Windows Mobile 6 and 6.5 were never a part of. Blackberry, iOS and Android dominate that market. WP7 is an attempt to break into the market, and it's going to take time, just like it took Android time. We just won't know for a while, I say in two years we'll have a good idea, but we'll be making more educated guessed long before even then. Right now, it's just too early to say.

 Re: The Tech thread
So I wonder if the HP buyout of Palm will do Palm any good?
Or is Palm dead?
I owned a pre...it was ok but TO SMALL, the hardware was HORRID, and while I liked the "cards" it just seemed a little outdated.

Was the first Window's Phone, a Window's Phone?
Yes.
Thus, I win. Again.

This was always advertised as a "Window's Phone" How odd! AT&T is advertising it's "Surround" phone as "A New Window's Phone"... as if there has been one before! Should I tell them that there has only been one Window's Phone in the history of ever? According to people on www.worldofkj.com

 Re: The Tech thread
Just because the ignorant masses believe there are ties between Windows Mobile and WP7 doesn't make it true. Like it or not, the two platforms are entirely unique and unrelated aside from the company that created them.

 Re: The Tech thread
I don't know much about W7 Phone, but the one commercial I saw said it was designed to get you in and out "fast". Is that a selling point? Personally, I want a phone that's so freakin awesome that I'll look at it for hours before I remember to look up and see where I'm driving.

 Re: The Tech thread
That whole ad campaign is so mind-bogglingly stupid it makes me laugh. It's well filmed and designed, and thus veils the idiocy and contradicting message well.

 Re: The Tech thread
The underlying message is definitely, "our phone has so few extra features that you'll spend little time with it, but on the good side it's so simple that even an idiot like you can use it". My only guess is they're going for the AOL crowd - if that crowd still exists.
It's nice to see a new phone that even I can make fun of. Makes me feel a little better. Sometimes when I'm using my nearly 2 year old Blackberry I feel like I might as well be using a stone and chisel. I hate 2 year contracts. I want a new sexy phone!

 Re: The Tech thread
So Facebook today announced.... something? http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=452288242130It's not e-mail or chat! It's both! Or neither! But it will totally change the way you communicate. Kinda like Google Wave did.

 Re: The Tech thread
Wave was a product before it's time, a product that wasn't quite right that they never finished and thus couldn't iterate at a high level, which doomed it to failure, but I'm happy to see it's influence appearing in Google Docs. Multi-user editing in real time, chat, revision history, etc have all been improved because of wave.

 Re: The Tech thread
Yes, Karl, you keep repeating that line over and over. The bottom line is that Wave was a huge failure, and that collaboration features need to improve regardless of Wave's existence.
Now let's see what Facebook does. The one advantage they already have on Google is that they're integrating it into an existing messaging system.

 Re: The Tech thread
Yes, because Wave obviously didn't spark anything!
Google is such a failure as a company! Making things that fail!

 Re: The Tech thread
So I am STILL loving my evo, however I do miss having a physical keyboard....I kinda wish HTC would come out with something, somewhat similar to the Palm Pre but BIGGER and better quality.
