Microsoft wised up and is abandoning Silverlight (for the most part). I could kiss Balmer right about now.

TVs can never be too big!

If you're looking for ultra big at decent price, I got the Mitsubishi 65" DLP. At the time it was around $1800, but I see now it is down to $1300.

I've seen all sorts of 1080p HDTVs and it's as good or better than any of them.

40-42" is more than acceptable and they are way cheap, maybe even cheaper. Decent ones are 499 or less. They should be falling closer to 400 soon.

Viera, Samsung, LG are all good products.

I'd check out Fatwallet.com or slickdeals.net and browse for deals. I'd also check out Walmart, Target and Sears occasionally for clearance items.

A 60Hz LCD should be sufficient. There are 120HZ tvs but they are priced a bit higher and a LED isn't something you'd need either.

Right now, I'm content with a 37" tv in the living room and 26" in my bedroom. 37" is perfectly fine for me but bigger would be nicer. On the tvs, you'll be able to stretch the picture, zoom, widen or leave it normal if you prefer.

42 to 56'' LED is what you should be looking for (IMO). I would go for 120Hz personally, 240 is great, but unneeded. I prefer Samsung over all other brands.

Best Buy sells TV's at good prices (it's about the only product they sell at competitive prices), never get a service plan. Or buy it from one of the above mentioned retailers.

I know you're suppose to get a TV based on your room size, right? I live in a studio so the TV won't exactly be like eight feet from where I'd be watching it. More like 4-6.5 feet, depending on where I'll be sitting when watching it/playing a game (either my desk or bed). But it'll be mah main TV. And it cud one day go up inside a living room when I get a betta apartment, so I don't want it to be too small for that. Or too big for what I need it for now.

Should I still get a 42" or bigga?

for 6.5ft 40-42" is more than enough. Get a slim lcd tv. i am sure you can get a branded one for < $500 this black friday.

Friend of mine got a 42" for a similar size room because people put the fear of God in her about the "rulez' - - and she still regrets not getting a 55".

If money ain't a problem, I say: Go big and stay home!

I agree Bradley, but do you dream of 4 huge tv's or just one mega tv? Of late I'm leaning toward the 4 huge TVs.

That'd be so distracting. I know of sports radio hosts who have stuff like that but I don't see what a normal person would need for that other than for sports and even then that'd be to much to focus on.

Like you said, for sports. I'm a sports nut ... imagine a bar room with a wall of 4 huge tv's each on a different game with all your friends over (and the wives upstairs gabbing). Bliss!

Don't listen to the others. People with small TVs always say that smaller ones are ok.

General rule of thumb is that you should have to turn your head a decent distance to see from one side of the TV to the other. You want it so if you're watching the right side of the TV, you have no idea what's happening on the left side and vice versa.

*sturrs at the varying opinions*

I'm thinking a 40" Samsung or Sony LED. 1080p, 120hz. They don't seem to carry 42" teeveez on BestBuy.com. I would like bigger, like a 46", but that's kinda getting too expensive and I'm still not sure if that would be too big or not for mah small viewing area. Ya'll seem to know a lot about TVs, tell me how the distance you'll be affects the size HDTV you should get. I always heard it does.

And is Wal-Mart srsly a guud place to buy an HDTV? Like srsly? I thought they were sent the cheap crap.

Well, to be specific, my dream is of a wall-size TV that can be used like a computer monitor. I want to be able to use it in fullscreen mode - - one show filling the screen edge-to-edge in HD. But I would also like the capability of opening as many windows as I wish and placing them anywhere on the screen that I wish and overlapping them as needed.

Needless to say, my dream is about a decade down the road, but for the short term, your "4 huge TV" solution is realistic and relatively affordable right now.

Though I might go with a six or twelve screen set-up and multi-monitor software in case I wanted to still simulate a single large screen that comes close to the typical aspect ratio.

I have a 52'' and I still think she should go with the 40''. I wouldn't want to sit 7 feet from my 52'' TV. Now excuse me while I enjoy the beauty of the quad cube some more.

I have finally figured out WTF all those Windows 7 ads were all about!

Pretty neat idea, but honestly it feels like a solution in search of a problem.

Sweet! Now I can drive and text without worries.

I got to play with a WP7 phone at Dev Connections in Vegas this past week ... eh. I tell you this, the whole 'get things done faster' is a total crock. With folders I can get to just about anything on my phone in two quick clicks. WP7 some stuff is hidden, you have to swipe multiple times to get to it, or it's on another page and then you have to swipe to get it. Other than what's on the tiles, it's not intuitive, I didn't like the forced use of the back button, and so many other things.

WP7 is going to be a player, it has a better UI than Android out of the box, and at least Windows is finally moving in the right direction. That said, it's got a long way to go, and it's far from perfect.

oh my gosh. tvs are tvs regardless of the seller. Just look at the brands. Even BB sells chump brands.

check out fatwallet.com and slickdeals.net

There are usually tv deals to be had and if you can wait a bit longer the holiday deals will bring prices lower.

It seems to be off to a slow start.

Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO--If Microsoft hopes to get back in the smartphone game, it had better hope that Windows Phone 7 makes a bigger impact than it appeared to be having at one AT&T store here.

As of midday Monday, the store had sold less than half of its supply of 20 devices.

That's not to say that folks weren't lining up. Unfortunately, nearly all of the 200 people who showed up on Market Street this morning were there to snag tickets for a launch concert featuring Maroon 5, as opposed to getting their hands on one of the new phones. Microsoft did manage to make the most of the queue, requiring that concert-goers at least get a demo of Windows Phone 7 before getting their passes to the show, which takes place at the Fillmore this evening.
