Shrek: $448,091,897
From uip. Says updated on the 19th, not sure if that means box office including or excluding Thursday. But that must be including Chinese gross, because that's $7.6m weekdays, after a $6m weekend.

"Thanks to hefty opening grosses registered on the weekend in the U.K. and France, Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables" appears to have muscled its way to the No. 1 spot on the foreign theatrical circuit.
However, with $21.5 million generated from 6,550 screens in 59 markets, Warner Bros.' "Inception" is still in the running for the top spot as of Sunday. The Leonardo DiCaprio vehicle has claimed first place in the three prior weekends.
With only a smattering of the some 20 offshore markets reporting, "Expendables" -- the Milennium Films /Nu Image Films super-octane action vehicle costarring Stallone, Jason Stratham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts and Mickey Rourke -- has compiled a weekend gross of at least $14.5 million.
Whereas "Inception" has been fully accounted for (it's international cume stands at $357.7 million), returns for "Expendables" are by no means all in due to a complicated and not-especially-timely reporting process involving myriad regional film distributors.
The action title on the weekend opened No. 1 in the U.K., commanding an estimated $5.7 million from 456 screens. In France, the first-place gross was an estimated $5 million from an unspecified number of locations. In Korea, "Expendables" opened in the No. 5 spot with an estimated $1.5 million elicited from 265 screens.
In Australia, "Expendables" lured an estimated $1.6 million from 187 sites in its second market round. Universal reports that in Spain, the film drew a second-weekend gross of $700,000 from 341 dates for a 10-day market cume of $3.7 million.
Still to be heard from are China and Singapore among the debut markets and Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Taiwan, Denmark, Finland and Romania, among the holdovers.
Opening overseas in the U.K.'s No. 3 spot (via Entertainment Film Distributors) was the Weinstein Co./Dimension's "Piranha 3D." The horror outing directed by Alexandre Aja and costarring Richard Dreyfuss, Elizabeth Shue and Ving Rhames collected an estimated $2.3 million from 354 situations.
The horror sendup "Vampires Suck," from 20th Century Fox, opened offshore to $756,007 from 164 screens in eight markets.
Premiering at No. 1 in South Korea ($6.3 million from 415 sites), Brazil ($2.7 million from 222 spots) and Germany ($4.1 million from 375 locations), Paramount's "The Last Airbender" looks to finish the weekend either No. 2 or No. 3 with $19.5 million from 4,261 venues in 43 markets for an international cume of $94 million.
Director M. Night Shyamalan's 3D adaptation of the Nickelodeon TV series has so far grossed a total of $5.2 million over two rounds in the U.K., $10.2 million from France and $8.2 million from Spain. "Airbender" opens this week in Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia and Peru.
After slightly more than a month playing the foreign circuit, "Salt" crossed the $100-million gross mark on the weekend ($106.4 million, says Sony). It is vying for either the No. 3 or No. 4 spot.
The Cold War thriller starring Angelina Jolie opened No. 1 in at least three markets including Australia (an estimated $3.6 million from 244 locations), premiered at No. 2 in the U.K., and drew $17.8 million overall on the weekend from 4,375 situations in 61 markets.
Pixar/Disney's "Toy Story 3" in 3D continued to chug along after two-and-a-half months on the overseas circuit, grossing $12 million from 6,925 screens in 49 territories. The title is either No. 4 or No. 5.
Foreign cume stands at $580.6 million, making the animation threequel the fifteenth biggest offshore grosser of all time. Global cume is $984.3 million, qualifying "Toy Story 3" as the industry's seventh most popular title ever.
"Step Up 3D" is being handled overseas by Summit and Universal. From 23 territories, the third installment of the urban dance franchise collected on the weekend $11.1 million from 2,467 situations. Seven openings are in the offing this week, including in Germany.
The five markets handled by Universal generated on the weekend $5.1 million from about 1,000 sites, including 290 screens in France, which threw off $2.3 million, placing "Step Up 3D's" debut in the market's No. 3 spot. Total grossed overseas to date is an estimated $53.2 million. "Step Up" is either No. 5 or No. 6 on the weekend.
Still pumping after about three months on the foreign theatrical circuit, DreamWorks Animation/Paramount's "Shrek Forever After" in 3D opened in China, and generated an estimated $8.1 million from 923 situations. Weekend overall produced $11 million from 4,663 locations in 58 markets for a foreign gross total so far of $455.5 million. Openings in Greece and Italy are on tap this week.
"The Karate Kid" has delivered a foreign gross total of $124.7 million since it opened on the overseas circuit on June 9. Weekend boxoffice for Sony's update costarring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith came to $10.7 million from 3,030 screens in 39 territories. A No. 2 France opening delivered $3.8 million from 530 screens.
Disney's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" drew $10.2 million from 3,212 sites in 45 markets with a No. 1 Italy debut helping considerably with a weekend tally of $3.4 million. The Jerry Bruckheimer production starring Nicolas Cage pushed its overseas gross total to $91.4 million (versus its domestic cume of $60.5 million).
Expected to rank No. 1 in its Poland opening is Universal's "Despicable Me," which generated $5.3 million on the weekend from a total of 1,735 sites in 25 territories. With more than 30 markets yet to play the 3D animation title voiced principally by Steve Carell has accumulated a foreign gross of $65.2 million.
Fox's "The A-Team" generated an action-packed $2.2 million from 358 locations in its Japan debut, and drew $5.3 million overall on the weekend at 1,923 spots in 14 territories. Overseas cume for the screen adaptation of the 1980s NBC-TV series is $90.8 million.
Top local-language newcomer in the Paris area was UGC Distribution's "Crime d'amour" (Love Crime), director Alain Corneau's psychological thriller. The tale of a beleaguered female employee (Ludvine Sagnier) seeking to even the score with her abusive boss (Kristin Scott-Thomas) opened No. 5 in Paris and suburbs.
Opening No. 2 in Sweden was "Grown Ups," which tallied $4.8 million on the weekend overall from 2,150 screens in 42 territories. Cume for Sony's comedy starring Adam Sandler stands at $59.2 million.
Other international cumes: Fox's "Knight and Day," $147.5 million (after a $3.5 million weekend at 1,900 screens in 35 markets); Universal's "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," $2.5 million (after a $1.1 million weekend playing 518 dates in three markets); and Fox's "Marmaduke," $36.7 million (after a $3.8 million weekend at 1,924 screens in 13 territories).
Also, Warner's "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore," $35 million (thanks to a $7.5 million weekend at 4,600 screens in 42 markets); Universal's "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang," $62.9 million; DreamWorks Animation/Paramount's "How to Train Your Dragon," $272.6 million; Fox's "Predators," $64.4 million; Universal's "Get Him to the Greek," $22.7 million; and Lionsgate's "Killers," estimated $40 million. I find it really interesting and rather shocking that Step Up 3D will gross over 100 million on the foreign circut, considering it's underperfomance domestically...

Man they are bad at keeping track of Expendables, I hope they get better at it, as Russia and China and the holdovers it should be over 40 million already overseas.

Re: Intl. Box-Office: The Last Airbender hits $120m overseas
"It remains another too-close-to-call weekend on the foreign theatrical circuit as "The Expendables" and "The Last Airbender" still appear neck and neck as of Monday in the race to box office No. 1.
Weekend take for director M. Night Shyamalan's 3D adaptation of the Nickelodeon TV series comes to an estimated $18 million from a total of 5,843 venues in 51 markets for an overseas total of $120 million. Paramount's "Airbender" opened No. 1 in Mexico ($3.6 million from 713 spots) while its first China round points to $2.6 million from 1,500 locations.
(Paramount did not update gross numbers on Monday since its London foreign office was close because of a bank holiday in the U.K.)
Preliminary weekend estimates puts "Expendables" weekend tally at roughly $18 million, pending revision of China market final returns, which don't report until Tuesday. "Expendables," which finished No. 1 in the prior weekend, is playing a total of 32 markets via various local distributors with only a handful of major territories reporting so far. Overseas cume stands at an estimated $75 million.
The Milennium Films /Nu Image Films super-octane action vehicle directed by and costarring Sylvester Stallone, with Jason Stratham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts and Mickey Rourke, opened in Germany, Norway and Thailand in the latest round.
"Expendables'" No. 3 Germany bow via local distributor Splendid produced $2.9 million from 531 sites while a No. 1 Austria debut via Centfox captured $501,032 from 68 spots. (The film's Japan opening via Pony Canyon is scheduled for Oct. 16.)
Otherwise, the generally sluggish, late-summer weekend's notable development was 20th Century Fox's overseas introduction of a "special edition" of "Avatar" at 1,046 screens in 14 markets for a gross of $4.26 million.
That was more than enough to push director James Cameron's scifi blockbuster past the $2 billion foreign-gross mark (offshore cume stands at slightly more than $2.002 billion). The fresh "special edition" performed best in Russia, claiming the No. 2 spot with $1.23 million derived from 313 sites for a market cume (including initial run) of $117.4 million.
Universal kicked off its five-month foreign campaign for "Charlie St. Cloud" in Russia, Croatia and Trinidad for a weekend tally of $300,413 from 256 sites. Early overseas returns total $326,135 for the fantasy-drama starring Zac Efron.
Paramount commenced its offshore run of "Dinner For Schmucks," the comedy costarring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, in the Netherlands for $250,000 derived from 49 screens. Fox opened "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" in the No. 11 spot in the U.K. with $1 million drawn from 375 locations.
The weekend's probable No. 3 is Warner Bros.' "Inception," which collected $17 million – nearly $2 million more than the figure provided Sunday -- from 5,870 locations in 63 markets. Overseas cume for director Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio comes to $387 million.
Sony's "Salt" opened No. 1 in France ($3.9 million from 542 locations) and Poland, and claimed $15.5 on the weekend from 4,278 situations in 63 markets. The Cold War drama starring Angelina Jolie film was also No. 1 in its second rounds in Australia and New Zealand with a combined $2.5 million from 440 screens. Overseas cume stands at $130.8 million. The film looks to wind up No. 4 on the weekend.
Now in its 11th round on the foreign circuit, "Toy Story 3" in 3D actually picked up a bit from its prior round -- grossing $13.1 million from 4,575 venues in 41 markets for an overseas cume of $606.1 million. It ranks a probable No. 5 on the weekend.
The Pixar/Disney release is now the fourteenth film in industry history to surpass the $600 million foreign gross mark. "Toy Story 3" is also, said Disney, the first animation title ever to cross the $1 billion gross mark worldwide (global cume is just shy of $1.012 billion).
Since it opened June 9 on the foreign circuit, Sony's "The Karate Kid" has grossed a total of $142.3 million. Weekend action -- including No. 1 openings in Spain ($4.7 million from 494 spots) and Brazil ($2.3 million from 378 sites) -- came to $12.8 million from 3,700 situations in 38 territories.
Summit/Universal's "Step Up 3D" was active in 30 territories, and generated $11.1 million on the weekend from 2,494 sites. A No. 1 Germany debut provided $3.67 million from 525 conventional and 3D venues while a No. 2 Austria opening drew $500,000 from 68 spots. Overseas cume for the third installment of the urban dance franchise stands at $70.8 million.
After more than three months playing the foreign circuit, DreamWorks Animation/Paramount's "Shrek Forever After" in 3D is still generating decent foreign numbers, $10.5 million in its latest round at 4,585 venues in 61 markets. Cume stands at $470 million.
Opening in seven markets Dimension Films/The Weinstein Co.'s horror title "Piranha 3D" drew $8.1 million in its second weekend on the international circuit, raising its early overseas cume to $12.3 million. Biggest contributor was Russia where the film premiered with $3.2 million from 400 locations.
Sony's "Grown Ups" emerged as the weekend's probable No. 1 title in the U.K. ($3.2 million from 422 locations), the market's biggest opening weekend for an Adam Sandler comedy. Overall, the film grabbed $7.8 million from 2,192 screens in 49 markets. Overseas cume stands at $69.9 million.
"Sorcerer's Apprentice" delivered $6.2 million from 3,117 prints in 41 markets, pushing the cume for the Jerry Bruckheimer production starring Nicolas Cage to $103.2 million from about 70% of the overseas marketplace, as per distributor Disney. Warner's "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore" drew an estimated $4.7 million from 4,045 screens in 49 markets for a foreign cume of $44.1 million.
Universal's "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" looks to open No. 4 in the U.K. ($2.5 million from 407 dates) with the full weekend generating $3.2 million from 914 sites in four markets for an early overseas cume of $6.1 million. Fox's sci-fi action title, "Predators," delivered $3.1 million from 1,453 situations in 28 markets for an overseas total gross of $68.7 million. And Fox's horror spoof "Vampires Suck" grossed $2.1 million from 477 situations in 14 markets for an international cume of $3.1 million.
Taking first place in Japan for the second consecutive weekend was Tokyo Broadcasting System/Toho's "Hana Mizuki – May Your Love Bloom for a Hundred Years." The melodrama about teenagers in love generated $3.8 million from 310 screens for a market cume of $15 million.
Regaining the No. 1 spot in South Korea was C.J. Entertainment's release of "The Man From Nowhere," director Jeong-beom Lee's local-language crime thriller. Fourth round drew $3.4 million from 450 sites for a market cume of $28.4 million.
Top grossing local-language newcomer in France was "Le bruit des glacons" ("The Sound of Ice"), director Bertrand Blier's black comedy about an alcoholic writer visited by the incarnation of his own cancer. The Wild Bunch Distribution release, which premiered this year's in the Venice Days section of the 47th Venice Film Festival, drew $1.8 million from 302 screens, opening No. 5 in the market.
Other international cumes: DreamWorks Animation/Paramount's "How to Train Your Dragon," $274 million; Fox's "Knight and Day," $151.3 million; Universal's "Despicable Me," $69.6 million (after a $2.8 million weekend from 1,268 screens in 26 markets); Fox's "The A-Team," $95.53 million; Universal's "Get Him to the Greek," $23 million; Fox's "Marmaduke," $41.3 million (due to a $2 million weekend at 1,200 situations in 13 territories); and Universal's "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang," $63.3 million.
Also, Universal's "Repo Men," $4.7 million; Fuji TV/Toho's "Bayside Shakedown 3: Set the Guys Loose," $80.6 million over nine frames in Japan only; Universal's "Robin Hood," $205.6 million; Studio Canal/Universal's "Sammy's Adventures: The Secret Passage," $8.1 million from France and The Netherlands only; and Universal's "Hanni und Nanni," $6.1 million from Germany and Austria only. Re: Intl. Box-Office: The Last Airbender hits $120m overseas
the Foreign Box Office continues to outpace the domestic box office this year, with a top 12 total this week of approx. 142.8 million, far ahead of the 90 million earned domestically this weekend.
Furthermore, foreign grosses are saving many films that could have been deemed disappointing to outright bombs given their domestic performances.
For Instance, Step Up 3D is already at 70 million overseas, with much more to come, after barely making 40 million on the domestic front. With a WW cume of 150 million though, it can hardly be deemed a disappointment given the relatively low budget and what should be strong foreign DVD sales.
The Last Airbender will finish above 150 million, and coupled with it's domestic performance will be over 300 million WW. Saved Paramount what could have been an embarrassment given the large budget. It did not however save M. Night the embarrassment of having another shitty movie.
Salt is well on it's way past 150 million overseas as well, making up for a somewhat weak domestic performance. It's overseas performance is actually enough for Sony to consider a sequel.
Shrek Forever After is a HUGE win on the foreign circuit as it now looks poised to sqeek past 500 million and well over 700 million total. Despite a weak domestic performance in relation to the other 3, Forever After is going to be the highest grossing Shrek overseas!
And ofcourse, Overseas box office save Tom Cruise's ass with Knight and Day passing 150 million. That performance is probably the reason Paramount is still going ahead with the next Mission Impossible.
Plus, the Overseas box office is just making domestic hits even bigger hits. The Expendibles is rocking, and might make as much as 150 million overseas to compliment it's already steller domestic gross, which should finish above 100 million.
The Karate Kid is will be adding another 150 million to it's domestic cume as well.
And do I even have to mention Toy Story 3 and Inception, the big WW box office winners of the summer?

Re: Intl. Box-Office: The Last Airbender hits $120m overseas
Worldwide should actually be bigger than domestic considering there are 140 times the number of countries or more.
Given, most places have no form of cinema and others have very small markets, it still should be outgrossing the domestic BO daily since Russia, China, Brazil etc are fast rising markets. Add to the fact that even if they don't embrace US films they have their own films also makes this almost expected to outgross the domestic market.
Still, it's quite amazing how big the US BO is. Look at giving a $15m budget to Ramona. That would never be a hit in 90% of countries even if people liked it because of how small the markets are.

"In yet another cliffhanger weekend on the foreign theatrical circuit, independently-distributed "The Expendables" and Warner Bros.' "Inception" were as of Labor Day still duking it out for the No. 1 overseas box office crown.
How both films fare in China -- "Inception" just opened there while "Expendables" is in the third round of its powerhouse market run -- will largely determine which title is in the top spot. (Weekend China returns can take as long as two or three days to surface.)
Director Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which has eclipsed the $400-million foreign gross mark in eight rounds of offshore release (cume $417.6 million), rolled up $22.6 million on the weekend from 8,864 screens 60 markets, excluding China.
"Inception" was No. 1 overseas in the first three weekends of last month while "Expendables" muscled its way to the top position on Aug. 22 and Aug. 29.
For its part, the Millennium/Nu Image Films super-octane action vehicle directed by and costarring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Stratham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts and Mickey Rourke, grossed an estimated $1.4 million in its Italy debut at 291 locations.
In China, opening weekend for "Expendables" was $10.7 million, with another $13.2 million taken in during its second round.
Early reports from the U.K., France, Spain, Australia, Germany and Korea put the latest "Expendables'" weekend tally at about $4.5 million, excluding Russia, another huge market for the film, and about 35 other smaller markets. The action title is expected to easily surpass the $100 million foreign gross mark on the weekend.
Entering the overseas market via a No. 1 opening at 313 U.K screens was "The Last Exorcism," director Daniel Stamm's horror thriller, which has done swift box office business domestically. Handled by local distributor Optimum Releasing, "Exorcism" came up with an estimated $1.7 million.
Premiering No. 1 in Australia and in New Zealand was Paramount's "Tomorrow, When the War Began," an Aussie-made adventure/drama about teenagers fighting foreign invaders. Debut gross was a combined $3.9 million from 283 screens.
Twentieth Century Fox opened in Brazil "Nosso Lar," director Wagner de Assis' spiritual drama about a doctor's post-death experiences in an alien land. Debut weekend at 443 screens drew $3.5 million for a decisive No. 1 market premier.
Maintaining its No. 1 position in France ($2.18 million in the second round at 542 spots for a market cume of $8 million), Sony's "Salt" generated $9.2 million overall from 4,000 situations in 64 markets. Overseas gross total for the Cold War drama starring Angelina Jolie comes to $147 million.
Paramount's "The Last Airbender" had some air taken out of its tires overseas, dropping from $20.27 million in the prior weekend to $8.7 million in its latest offshore round at 5,101 venues in 52 territories. Director M. Night Shyamalan's 3D adaptation of a Nickelodeon TV series has grossed $138.8 million so far internationally.
"The Karate Kid" has notched an overseas cume of $157.2 million since it opened on the foreign circuit on June 9. Costarring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith, Sony's update of the 1980s original title drew $8.4 million on the weekend from 3,365 locations in 44 markets.
Pixar/Disney's "Toy Story 3" in 3D is winding down its overseas run after 12 frames offshore with a $7.4 million weekend at 4,601 venues in 44 markets for a whopping foreign cume of $621.4 million, making the animation title the eleventh biggest overseas grosser ever. Worldwide gross is $1.030 billion.
Disney's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," the Jerry Bruckheimer live action production starring Nicolas Cage, also drew $7.4 million on the weekend, from 3,296 sites in 41 territories for an offshore gross total of $114.4 million, with seven percent of the overseas market yet to play. Global gross stands at $176 million.
Summit International/Universal's "Step Up 3D" grossed strongly in German, vying for the market's No. 1 spot in its second round there. Weekend overall for the latest in the urban dance franchise was $7.1 million from 2,658 venues in 34 territories. Overseas cume stands at $82.6 million over five offshore rounds, of which $30.9 million derived from territories handled by Universal.
After more than three months on the foreign circuit, DreamWorks Animation's "Shrek Forever After" in 3D became the biggest offshore grosser of the four-title animation franchise -- surpassing "Shrek 2's" $478.5 million foreign gross total in compiled in 2004 -- with $480.7 million in international box office via Paramount. Latest weekend's take was $4.7 million from 2,661 venues in 61 markets.
Sony's Adam Sandler comedy "Grown Ups" hoisted its international box office total to $78.1 million thanks to a $4.1 million weekend at 2,080 screens in 54 territories. Warner's "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore" scored $3.9 million from about 3,500 screens in 48 territories, lifting its offshore cume to $50.6 million.
Fox's "Avatar: Special Edition" has elicited $10.3 million in 11 days overseas business, which, when added to the humongous overseas gross of the director James Cameron's original issue, brings total foreign business to $2.009 billion for the title. Opening in seven territories, "Special Edition" on the weekend overall drew $3.8 million from 1,981 screens in 20 territories.
Other international cumes: Fox's "Vampires Suck," $6.7 million (after a $3.1 million weekend from 1,343 screens in 23 territories); Universal's "Despicable Me," $74.1 million; Fox's "Predators," $71.3 million; Universal's "Get Him to the Greek," $25 million; Fox's "Knight and Day," $152.6 million; UGC Distribution's "Crime d'amour" ("Love Crime"), $2.5 million over three rounds in France only; Universal's "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," $9.6 million; Fox's "The A-Team," $98.1 million; Universal's "Charlie St. Cloud," $700,000; Fox's "Marmaduke," $43.8 million; Paramount's "Dinner for Schmucks," $1.9 million (after a No. 6 U.K. opening for $1.5 million from 477 spots); and Fox's "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," $3.2 million. Re: Intl. Box-Office: Inception #1; Salt hits $260 million WW!
Expendables is already over 100 million, I'd say its closer to about 130 overseas now. They really need to find a way to track it's numbers better. And a tidbit, Expendables may have passed Fahrenheit 911's WW total to become Lionsgate's biggest film ever.

"Alice (aka actress Milla Jovovich) is back!
The foreign theatrical circuit's first box office hit of the fall season emerged over the weekend as "Resident Evil: Afterlife" in 3D handily grabbed the No. 1 spot by grossing $46.2 million from more than 3,755 screens in 29 markets.
The latest installment of Constantin Film's scifi-action-horror series is on pace to set an opening franchise record, said Sony, which is distributing the film in most offshore markets.
No. 1 debuts were recorded in at least 10 markets. These include Japan ($15.46 million from 665 locations), Russia ($9.5 million from 719 sites), Spain ($3.4 million derived from 509 venues), Taiwan ($3 million from 141 venues) and the U.K. ($2.9 million from 356 spots).
"Afterlife" has plenty of box office life ahead with such key markets as Brazil, Korea, Mexico and Sweden set to open this week. (The portion of the weekend gross total amassed in territories handled by Sony came to $42.5 million).
Focus Features/Universal's "The American," starring George Clooney, opened No. 4 in Italy to $825,000 secured from 275 locations. "The Other Guys," Sony's police comedy costarring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, did much better, grossing $2.5 million from 257 locations in five markets. (Early foreign gross cume stands at $2.7 million.)
Second on the weekend was Warner Bros.' "Inception," which had secured the top spot in the prior round as well as in last month's opening three stanzas. Weekend tally for director Christopher Nolan's thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio came in at $14.6 million from some 7,900 situations in 61 markets. Overseas gross total stands at $447 million.
China continues to throw off big opening numbers for Hollywood titles, with "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" generating, as per distributor Disney, $3.4 million in its No. 1 first round in the market at some 485 locations.
Weekend overall for the Jerry Bruckheimer production starring Nicolas Cage drew $9.1 million from 3,489 sites in 52 territories, pushing the film's foreign gross total to $127.6 million. Globally, "Apprentice" has grossed $189.8 million. A New Zealand opening comes this week. The title looks to finish No. 3 on the weekend.
No. 4 on the weekend and picking up steam overseas is "Despicable Me," Universal's 3D animation outing voiced principally by Steve Carell. A first-place Australia opening generated $4.5 million from 264 locations, with the overall weekend take coming to $6.1 million from 1,430 venues in 29 markets. International cume stands at $81.5 million.
School holidays beginning in a week in Australia should boost "Despicable Me's" returns in that market. The animation outing is already Universal's top-grossing title in Latin America. "Me" has 32 territories yet to play, including most of Europe.
Fifth on the weekend, Paramount's "The Last Airbender" grossed $6 million from 3,616 situations in 56 markets. Director M. Night Shyamalan's scifi adventure has so far generated $150 million in overseas box office.
Sony's "Salt," the Cold War drama starring Angelina Jolie, drew $5.6 million on the weekend from 3,138 sites in 63 markets, for a foreign cume of $156 million.
Disney said on Sunday that its 2010 overseas box office total is $2.015 billion, the first time that the studio has ever crossed the $2-billion foreign gross mark in a single year.
Winding up a four-month foreign rollout, Pixar/Disney's "Toy Story 3" in 3D generated $5.6 million from 3,964 venues in 40 markets. Total foreign gross stands at $632.2 million, making the animation title the tenth biggest-grossing feature ever released overseas. Globally, "Toy Story 3" has amassed $1.042 billion, and on a worldwide basis is 2010's biggest hit.
Summit International/Universal's "Step Up 3D" drew $5.4 million from 1,851 locations in 37 markets, bumping its overseas gross total to $94 million after six rounds on the foreign theatrical circuit -- making the title the biggest overseas hit of the urban dance film franchise.
"Vampires Suck," the horror movie sendup from 20th Century Fox, drew No.1 opening receptions in Germany ($3.2 million from 503 screens) and in Austria ($459,000 from 76 spots). The weekend as a whole generated $5.3 million from 1,796 situations in 23 territories for an overseas gross total so far of $13.1 million. Sony's "The Karate Kid" remake pushed its cume to $167.8 million thanks to a $5.2 million weekend at 3,055 sites in 45 markets.
Weekend gross returns for "The Expendables," Sylvester Stallone's action outing, are far from complete. The film has logged superb business in China, recording a total of about $27.9 million since its Aug. 20 market opening. Grosses have waned in China and most other major territories for the film (combined weekend tally from the U.K., Spain and France came to about $1.4 million).
"The Expendables" looks on track to finish with an estimated $4 million on the weekend, raising its foreign gross cume to about $118 million.
Premiering No. 1 in France was "Des hommes et des dieux" ("Of Gods and Men"), director Xavier Beauvois' drama co-starring Lambert Wilson and Michael Lonsdale about French monks fending off Muslim terrorists in Algeria in the mid-1990s. Currently drawing raves on the North American festival circuit, the Mars Distribution release opened to an estimated $2.1 million from 350 screens.
Other international cumes: Sony's "Grown Ups," $84.4 million (after a $4.3 million weekend from 2,100 screens in 52 markets); Fox's "Nosso Lar," $9.5 million in 10 days in Brazil only); DreamWorks Animation/Paramount's "Shrek Forever After" in 3D, $487.5 million; Warner's "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore," $55.5 million; Fox's "Avatar: Special Edition," $2.013 billion (after a $2.2 million weekend at 990 sites in 21 territories); Universal's "Get Him to the Greek," $27.4 million; Wild Bunch Distribution's "Le bruit des glaces" ("The Noise of Ice"), $3.9 million in France only; Fox's "Predators," $79.9 million; Universal's "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," $11.2 million; Fox's "The A-Team," $99.3 million); and Fox's "Marmaduke," $44.8 million. Re: Intl. Box-Office: RE4 opens BIG; Inception at $725+m WW!
Once again the overseas weekend total puts the domestic one to shame; 119 million vs. about 65 million domestically.
At this point, especially with Potter still to come last this year, I don't see how the Foreign Box Office will slip behind the domestic one, making this year the first that Overseas box office beats Domestic.
Exciting things to come in the years ahead I think...

Keep in mind that some markets have expanded hugely over the last few years, like Russia and China. Also keep in mind this is ONLY including hollywood films, and not films that are distributed by local film companies around the world...

What? That's not true at all. And not only is it not true, you can't just exclude local films. What about the plethora of US-produced films that don't get much international distribution?
If you're sure of your claim, can you provide a source?

""Resident Evil: Afterlife" took the No. 1 box office slot on the foreign theatrical circuit for the second consecutive weekend, grossing $38.7 million drawn from more than 5,300 screens in 48 markets.
In only 10 days overseas, Constantin Film's scifi-action-horror outing starring Milla Jovovich has broken the $100-million offshore box office barrier (actual cume, $103.2 million).
That makes "Afterlife" the biggest-grossing title overseas of the "Resident Evil" franchise; previous title holder was 2007's "Resident Evil: Extinction," which tallied a foreign gross total of $95.5 million.
In its latest weekend of play, "Afterlife" took the No. 1 spot in 42 of its 48 markets, scoring best in its second Japan round ($4.7 million from 655 sites). Notable first-place debuts were recorded in Mexico ($4.45 million from 660 spots), Korea ($3.8 million from 278 locations) and Brazil ($2.92 million from 302 screens), as well as in the Ukraine, Portugal, Chile and Romania.
"Afterlife" is being distributed overseas by Sony (whose territories threw off $30.2 million of the total weekend gross) in addition to local distributors in various markets and Summit International, which is handling the film in Thailand, the Philippines, Turkey and Israel.
Newcomers to the overseas circuit this weekend included Warner Bros.' "The Town," actor-director Ben Affleck's crime drama about Boston-area bank robbers, which opened No. 1 in Paris and No. 2 in France overall. Debut heist in the single market was $2.2 million, including previews from 293 locations.
Sony opened "Eat Pray Love," the saga of a divorced woman finding herself via a world journey, in five markets for a weekend tally of $3.6 million drawn from 693 screens. The Julia Roberts vehicle debuted stylishly in Japan ($1.63 million drawn from 295 screens), Italy (No. 2 with $1.7 million elicited from 336 spots) and took the No. 1 spot in Argentina.
"Easy A," director Will Gluck's romantic comedy about a high school girl's manipulation of her school's rumor mill, opened No. 5 in Australia via Sony with $1.2 million extracted from 172 locations.
Universal premiered "Devil," a horror thriller backed by Media Rights Capital and coproducer M. Night Shyamalan, at 555 screens in seven offshore territories for $2.3 million on the weekend. A No. 2 debut in the U.K. provided $1.3 million from 336 sites. There will be seven more openings, including Russia, later this week.
George Clooney's latest vehicle, "The American," opened No. 1 via Focus Features/Universal in Spain with $1.7 million drawn from 274 locations. Second weekend out (it opened in Italy last round) came up with $2 million from 474 sites, elevating the film's early overseas gross total to $3 million.
Still coming up with solid offshore numbers is "Inception," director Christopher Nolan's scifi thriller from Warner Bros. Latest international weekend drew $10.2 million from 5,460 situations in 60 markets. Foreign gross total for the Leonardo DiCapiro vehicle comes to $468.2 million. An Italy opening is due this week.
