Oh well, the MDB wins will just fuel the cycnicism that the way to win Oscars is to do movies about people with illnesses/disaiblities and related topics.

Well, Howard Hughes did have an illness/disability. ;)

Good point. I wish the go for the Oscar movies would stop obsessing over that kind of stuff, even though I liked the Aviator better than the others, you're right it suffered from the same problem of being that kind of movie.

I miss the days of Titanic and Gladiator winning, these days hollywood seems polarized between the commerce and artistic sides and not enough bridging of those.

So, how about that Aviator winning Best Picture? I was totally surprised when it, you know, didn't.

All in good fun, of course! Because I'd be taking some ribbing if M$B had lost

You would have not received a bit of ribbing, and neither would anybody else who was rooting for M$B except me, and we all know it.

Of course, since it did win, as some of us knew it would all along, there won't be any ribbing coming my way. Best picture, best director, best actress, and best supporting actor. WOW!!! =D>

*doesn't miss Gladiator-like films winning*

So what if Aviator won the Globe? It's all about the spectacle there, Eastwood winning there was the first sign Million Dollar Babyt was the clear Oscar frontrunner.

So what if it didn't win as many guilds? What did you expect? Visual effects? Art direction? Costume Design?

And yes, I'm saying this now, even though I've wanted to for a while, because there's no chance of embarrasing myself anymore

Well, I was wrong! But I truly thought The Aviator had it, and so I went out boldly with my prediction and stuck by it. Am ready to accept any crow pie, or whatnot, people want to throw at me.

PEACE, Mike ;)

I agree (even though I would have prefer L.A. Confidential winning over Titanic)

To quote Eddie Murphy, by the way: "That's how you get the nomination. A black dude who plays a slave that gets his ass whipped gets the nomination, a white guy who plays an idiot gets the Oscar. That's what I need, I need to play a retarded slave, then I'll get the Oscar. "
