 Re: Kick-Ass
It did feel like quite a mess. Dave makes effort to remove labels from himself in the beginning, which in turn made his character a bit boring. I wish Jesse Eisenberg from Zombieland had the role instead. He did get better as the movie went on though. McLovin was beyond bad.
Mirroring what everyone is saying, Hit Girl was just amazing. I found myself just longing for the next scene with her and Nicholas Cage, who was just brilliant. His comic backstory was very well made.

I kept thinking during the aftermath of Big Daddy on fire... why not get him to a hospital?? He didn't seem terminal, unlike Unfortunate Microwave Man.

7/10 -> B-
Really entertaining, but lacks a bit in character development (background narration doesn't really cut it) due to overwhelming quotations of comics and comic book movies.

One of the best comic book movies i've seen. I'd put it right behind batman begins.

They both seem to appeal to the same humorless twenty year-old audience member with a taste for cold unsatiric vengeance fed cruelty. Weird, huh? (Note: No personal offense intended to you, Movie Geek.)

Humorless?
Maybe a different sense of humor than you possess, but I don't believe the people who love Kick-Ass (myself included) are doing so from a humorless perspective.

 Re: Kick-Ass
Kick-Ass is a wonderful addition to the graphic novel movie genre. The jokes are spot on, the action is great, and it is overall a great and original piece when you compare it to other graphic novel or superhero films. The true star of the film is of course Hit Girl and it would be awesome if a sequel comes about with her as the lead. Nic Cage is not half bad either as Big Daddy. Very strong film. ***1/2

 Re: Kick-Ass
For me Kick-Ass breaks down into:
Unbelievably awesome: Big Daddy and Hit Girl
Pretty awesome: First half of Dave's story... loved his original escapes as Kick-Ass, the fight where he gets stabbed, the youtube brawl, his growing fame, etc.
Decent, more needed than anything: The Frank Dimarco villain and storyline, McLovin's Red Mist
Bad: Dave in the 2nd half... he just becomes completley uninteresting and tossaway compared to Hit Girl and Big Daddy... wasn't feeling the Katie storyline either
Also having Dave narrate everything after the fact sort of ruins the stakes when he's in danger... the climax was not emotionally involving. I think it would've been awesome if Frank killed the real Kick-Ass in the alley and they just carried the film through Big Daddy/Hit Girl from there, but eh, not feasible
I quite liked it overall though for Big Daddy/Hit Girl, the start of the Kick-Ass storyline, and the action scenes. The Rasual's apartment scene is AWESOME!

 Re: Kick-Ass
Dave was weak and the girlfriend/sex unbelievable but the movie still fucking rocked.
Hit Girl was awesome and the action/kills were amazing.
Also, it'd be helluva funny if he did get killed in the alley. That'd be so WTF yet hilarious.
Or if McLovin killed him in the end with the sword just as he was flying off and Hit Girl flicks McLovin onto his own blade before flying off.

Natalie Portman rocked. I like the character Hit Girl better but if it were Portman playing her it would have been even more awesome.

KICK-ASS - 8/10 (B+)
Quite enjoyable. Chloë Grace Moretz steals the show as Hit Girl. I'm glad they're doing a sequel. The first felt a tad uneven at times but I have faith that the sequel will be better.

 Re: Kick-Ass
Just saw this on DVD. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had its weak points, as others here commented, but I'd certainly recommend it. And great music. Any soundtrack that includes the Dickies and Sparks is OK by me.
B from me.

 Re: Kick-Ass
I didn't like it so much.
I think it started off with a good premise - the whole "what if a real person tried to be a Superhero" angle, but by the end, the movie went away from that and turned into a Superhero cliche with superhuman stunts, jet packs, and just general craziness.
I also was lukewarm on the idea of a 12 year old action heroine who talked and acted like an adult. I know a lot of people liked that, but it just never felt right to me. Part of it was that it took the movie farther away from realism (the part I liked).
Anyhow, I wouldn't say it was horrible, it just felt like a movie that got derailed from its initial - and much better - premise.
