Is Restrepo a best documentary lock? 43/1 positive on Rotten Tomatoes and 8/10 average vote and it won at Sundance.

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
Tilda Swinton learned Russian-accented Italian to play a woman caught in a loveless marriage who begins a torrid affair with a young chef, an affair with dark consequences...
Remember it.

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
So early reviews indicate Inception delivered as well.

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
I'm sure Nolan will get at least two nominations from Inception after not having any for TDK.

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
The Kids Are All Right should give a Best Actress nod to Annette Bening. She was spectacular in this.

The Kids Are All Right is a very likely BP nominee, IMO.

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
Yeah The Town looks like one of the top candidates for "the movie that beats Inception for BP and makes everyone go wahhhhh"
I think Jon Hamm gets a supporting nod btw. And the start of what will probably be a superstar movie career. If Hollywood could manufacture actors and were looking for a leading man, they'd make Hamm

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
The box office is not strong enough to grab major nominations, IMO. The genre doesn't help either.

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
Peter Weir's The Way Back is screening at Telluride. So we should hear reactions soon.

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
All of Fox Searchlight films are 2010 Oscar contenders
1) Never Let Me Go 2) 127 Hours 3) Black Swan
All three of them are getting good-great reviews from Venice and Telluride film festival. Natalie Portman and James Franco have very good chances of getting nominated for best actor in a female and male role.
The only film I haven't heard about which is from fox searchlight is Conviction starring Sam Rockwell and Hilary Swank.

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
After the fairly week 2009 in terms of awards attention for Fox Searchlight this looks to be another very strong year.

I think Natalie and James Franco will both get nominated. This could be Natalie's year.

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
Is Swinton/I Am Love a Best Actress contender at this point? Or did the movie not find enough of an audience?

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
Festival reviews seem to have ruled out Somewhere. Not another Lost in Translation-style triumph. "Too minor," "too minimalist and moody," etc. seems to be the consensus.
Focus should be able to concentrate entirely on The Kids Are All Right, unless It's Kind of a Funny Story gets AMAZING reviews.

Agree; Bening will beat Natalie heads up if it comes down to the two. The former is much more overdue.

 Re: The 2010 Contenders Discussion
From the sound of it, the Weinstein's The King's Speech with Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush is going to be a very strong BP contender.
