 Re: Inception
2nd viewing is the "best", while I would say 3rd was most enjoyable.

 Re: Inception
WOW! You certainly haven’t seen anything like INCEPTION. This is one of the most inventive Hollywood Blockbusters I’ve seen in a long time. It’s what people claimed “Avatar” to be, which was just recycled garbage by comparison (that’s pretty much what it was even if we’re not comparing). There’s a lot to wrap your head around here, and I won’t even pretend I was able to understand most of what went on in this movie, but I got the gist of it. It’s certainly a mindfuck, but one well-worth experiencing. It does run a little long, but that’s not really a flaw as I wouldn’t cut anything out. As for the actors, everyone does their best as a piece of the puzzle, but I liked Ellen Page the best out of everyone. I was most interested whenever she was onscreen.
As terrific and unique as this film is, I will say that it’s not one I’d care to watch over and over again. Maybe one or two more times. Definitely a must see though, at least once.
9/10 (A)

Really? I am just wondering because for me it is quite common ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dreaming ) Obviously the dreams are still never as complex or detailled as in Inception, but I still know all the time that I am dreaming and can control the dream around me.

I had an extremely vivid dream last night. Quite realistic.

 Re: Inception
7/10 -> B-
Well, I've seen it a few days ago and I just let it to linger a few days in my brain. It's enough to say that I actually almost forgot to post a review here.
First of all the movie is not complicated at all. It's pretty straightforward story that's easy to understand and if that isn't somehow enough in this day and age, then there's even a tutorial for idiots, where characters spell out the basic principles of everything that's going on.
The movie is pretty cold. I don't mind it being so serious, but I was bored by all characters. I never felt any connection and I didn't care about any of them. The big twists and shocks were easily predictable.
The script is very problematic. There is never a sense of a good team coming together like in the Ocean's movies that Inception mimics in that part. Everything feels rushed without any purpose. The action scenes are very boring (with the exception of the hotel fight with affected gravity). The dialogue is serving its purpose I guess, but it never feels inspired. There's not a single quote worth remembering I think.
The only outstanding thing in the whole movie is Mal. Marion did a wonderful thing with that character. Unfortunately, the whole coldness of the movie didn't allow for the single and vital love story to ever grow and feel real. We never feel the doubts of Mal's reality of Cobb's character and when he finally let's her go, instead of a big emotional scene, everything kinda flops away.
I did like the whole setup, the way dreams work, but I feel like there were better ways to explore that world. Jackson's Lovely Bones, despite being a crapola of a movie, beats every dream scene (real or surreal) with that boats in a bottle breaking on the shores scene on every emotional and poignant level.
The movie does pack a lot of ideas, but it never grows any of them, it just throws them around and they either stick or they don't. It might seem like I don't like the movie at all. I really did enjoy it, but also felt bored a few times. I just can't help myself from being heavily disappointed. For me this is the weakest Nolan movie by far.

 Re: Inception
Against my better judgement, I went back to see Inception for a second time this weekend. I was on a road trip with a group of people who wanted to see it in D-Box format and we happened to be passing through a town with a theatre equipped with the D-Box motion controlled seats synchronized to the action in the film. The D-Box was mildly amusing. The best part was that they used it sparingly, so it was actually pleasantly surprising and effective a couple of times in the movie. Overall, it's almost as unnecessary a gimmick as 3D, but if I were to ever see another D-Box encoded film, it would definitely be a horror - - that's surely where the format would shine. As to the movie itself, Inception was even more tedious the second time. The endless exposition is very draining and a sure sign that the story is needlessly complicated to distract audiences from it's mechanical simplemindedness. The whole sham is described when DiCaprio tests Ellen Page with drawing a maze in two minutes that he can't solve in one minute - - add on enough twists and turns and audiences mistake complexity for intelligence. In fact, it's just the opposite in this case. It's another case of the emperor's new clothes - - no one wants to be the one to say that Nolan's films are bare, so they prattle on about how brilliant they are. If Inception had a tenth of the imagination that The Cell had, if it really had the nerve to trust it's audience with the reality of dreams, it might have been a half decent movie. As it is, it's just pretentious twaddle. ...and since I had originally rated it 0 out of 5, but raised it to 1 out of 5 because Nolan had the enough sense not to release it in 3D - - I'm now cutting my grade because he saw fit to release it in D-Box. My final grade is: 0.1 out of 5

What I used to do pretty often is that I could actually have a dream, then be awake for a short time (5-10 minutes), then fall asleep and continue the dream just where I stopped.

Thanks for the D-Box review, I was not aware of its existence and am interested to experience it at least once. I looked up that they have one at the Mann Chinese 6 in Hollywood, so will definitely try it out for some horror movie this year.

 Re: Inception
D-Box is actually pretty entertaining. Completely over priced, but fun to try. Saw it when Fast and Furious came out, it was cool and added a little something.

What is D-Box, exactly? I looked it up online but the official website just says "the new form of entertainment" and doesn't really explain anything.

 Re: Inception
It's essentially just a rumbling seat. Like in video games when your controller vibrates when something happens, it's kinda like that. Like in Fast and Furious, whenever they had the camera in the car, and the car turned, it would feel as if you were turning with it. Kinda cool.
It was ridiculously expensive though. And it's reserved seating as it's usually just a dozen or so seats.
