Re: China Box Office (Knight & Day)
Yeah, TS3 should pass 100m yuan given the past week was pretty empty with the market getting ready for Aftershock.
It's far below what Alice in Wonderland got ($33m) and didn't do as well as Ice Age 3, but better than How to Train Your Dragon.

Re: China Box Office (Knight & Day)
A quiet last week, as everybody is shunning away from tomorrow's Aftershock launch.
Knight & Day won the week, while Toy Story 3 passed 100m yuan.

My prediction would be 130m yuan ($19m) for the 4 days.

Wow that is a good opening number for K&D.
TS3 is showing some legs. Though overall how do you think TS3 is performing there given the 3D boost

Is that a good release date. Mostly piracy will kill the film's potential by then.

It reminds me of District 9, where it was released 3 months later after its domestic release, and most of its core audience, young males, had watched it online already. It went on to gross only 13m yuan. Inception will do better than that with the bigger names of Nolan and DiCaprio, but I'd say 50m yuan top.

Re: China Box Office (Aftershock claimed opening day record?)
The Hollywood Reporter's review on Aftershock: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/fil ... 5603.story. There are conflicting reports on how exactly big the opening day was, with some saying it surpassed Avatar's record of 36m yuan. Look like it got 30m yuan at least. So 120m+ 4-day gross should be in store.

Look like a 160m yuan ($23.7m) 4-day opening.

Re: China Box Office (record-breaking start of Aftershock)
If that number holds, it should have broken the opening day record as well. The WOM is good too, so 500m yuan shouldn't be a problem.

Even with the revised number it seems that it would have crushed to OD record then by at the most 4m yuan

Re: China Box Office (record-breaking start of Aftershock)
Thanks for this report...couple of interesting things about this one I just read: it's the first non-American film done in IMAX and the movie takes tie-in advertising to a whole new level: Quote: Also there was laughter during the movie's screening, especially when advertisements were inserted into the story line of the movie and given close-up shots.
The advertisements include those for a luxury car company, an insurance company, a large state-owned bank, a sports wear company, and a Chinese wine maker
Fifteen minutes of the movie's total length of two and a half hours were for these advertisements, which have drawn criticism from the media as well as the public.
