Post The Thread Where BKB Declares The Oscars A BUST..
That's right.. It was bad enough the server went down for this site at of all times, during this years Oscars preventing any interaction of posting while the show went on, but the fact that Chris Rock just flat out Sucked and was completely out of his element with this show shows me that sometimes change is not a good thing.... Everytime the Camera panned out to the audience during the punchline to many of his jokes, the crowd just didn't seem into it.. We come back from a commercial break and instead of the traditional Oscar Orchestera music playing and the audience clapping, we come back to dead silence.. :???: Another thing that made this years Oscars a BUST was having the Nominees stand up on stage while announcing the catagories and having them stand out in the audience while announcing them as well.. Message to Gil Cates from BKB: Hire Billy Crystal, Robin Williams or Steve Martin as PERMANENT All time Oscar Hosts for each telecast and STOP trying to cater to the Goofy MTV Crowd in bringing in ratings for a show like this.. If it's not broken, don't fix it and considering the Oscars is quite an Elegant affair amongst the stars, Chris Rock is NOT the one to have host show like this..

Also, Congratulations on Mr.Eastwood and his Million Dollar Baby Win which obviously proved my "RAY" win wrong and that's fine.. =D> It's obvious I'm not the only one who was wrong on this catagory, especially for those who voted SIDEWAYS to win.. I guess I do have to wonder whether Martin Scorcese is on Suicide watch now that he's been snubbed YET again??? :-k It's 1 thing to have Million Dollar Baby win BEST PICTURE, but come on, you think maybe, just MAYBE they could've let Scorcese have the win for BEST DIRECTOR instead of Eastwood??? :-k I mean you think??? :-k As it stands now, Scorcese is the Susan Lucci of Hollywood Directors that has never won the big one and it really is sort of sad.. At this point, I'm inclined to believe that Clint Eastwood could make a movie titled "Shit on a Shingle", Direct the movie as well as Star in it and the Academy would give him the Nod for it just because the Academy adores this Man... How many movies does Scorcese have left in him at his age?? Would a win for this guy have hurt?? :-k

All in all, in the next 24 hours, I'm gonna predict the overall ratings for this show will be at an all time low in the history of the Oscars and Gil Cates will be forced to go back to tradition and stop trying to pander to the teen crowd in getting them to tune into this boring ass show.. In short: This Years 2005 Oscars was a BUST..

Marty of the 00s is not Marty of the 70s.

Oscar's have been a bust for awhile now, aside from the few big moments when the big awards are given out...the rest is filler that nobody cares about. Atleast it wasnt as bad as last year, which was tremendously boring.

You thought last years Oscars was worse than this years??? :-k Really??? :-k Hell, at least if I recall last year, the audience seemed a little more enthusiastic about the event than this year.. Rock's act just didn't seem to fit this sort of thing and at times, it almost seemed like the audience was put out more than they were enjoying themselves.. The constant focus on Jude Law fell flat and well, the show in itself was flat..

Whenever a movie sweeps its boring and this year no one movie really swept, last year ROTK won everything, this year was more varied which is much better, last years music performances were very weak aswell, Beyonce was great. lol didnt you think Rock was gonna be a good thing for this show like a week ago

It really was sad cause how many movies does this guy have left under his belt??? They could've just as easily split the awards with Scorcese getting BEST DIRECTOR and Eastwood getting BEST PICTURE or vice versa..

I thought Rock was decent. I did hate the new presentation methods, such as doing it from the audience and having the nominees on stage... a really stupid idea. I also noticed on several categories they didn't show any clips from the film, which would have been helpful on those categories such as short animated feature that I have no clue about any of them.

There were a few groovy wins... I like that Morgan Freeman and Jamie Foxx both got it... good choices. It was also nice to see Incredibles get a few wins. But, there was still a lot of boring moments. I wish they'd scrap the songs, and instead show longer clips of the best picture nominees throughout the ceremony.

The clip where they went to the theater and asked everyone their favorite movie and people said crap such as White Chicks and AvP, and none had seen Sideways or M$B was hilarious.

Maybe thats sending a message that many of these films like MDB or SIDEWAYS are critic touted movies and the general moviegoer doesn't care about them and are more concerned about the popular movies like, AVP then overly critic praised movies like MDB or SIDEWAYS.. :-k USA TODAY did say recently that it's very unusual for this years Oscar Nominated movies like MDB or SIDEWAYS or The Aviator to not be making more $$$ then past Oscar Nominated movies of the past..

I would hate to see the Academy nominate movies soley based on how the public liked them. That's what the craptacular People's Choice awards are for. The Oscars retain a little class by nominating quality films - regardless of popularity or box office - such as M$B and Sideways. Box office should never factor into the Academy's decision, IMO.

MDB overly critic praised :-k If that was the case the movie would already be basically off the charts instead of increase weekend by weekend or have very small drops, this type of movie lives on WORD OF MOUTH and from what I see, it's really good. * Counts how many times BKB used that USA article to justify a statement * Weekly is not saying the movies are overated or anything they're just stating they arent big time movies like ROTK, how many times did I say every movie nominated last year except ROTK never hit #1 at the BO?

YES, MDB was overly critic praised and how could you think it wasn't?? :-k Well I guess were gonna find out if MDB increases at the box office as a result of it's BEST PICTURE win or not cause if it doesn't increase like Past BEST PICTURE Winners have, then I'm right.. MDB will be more of a critic loved movie then the general moviegoer caring about it.. After MDB Best Picture win, there's no reason for the studio not to increase the screen count for it since afterall, if it is a BEST PICTURE Winner, therefore, moviegoers will flock to it more than ever now as a result of it's win, right?? :-k

There is no question that it will expand theaters and it's box office will increase more than it has. It may break 100 million now.

What?? :-k What does it's box office say?? :-k That it was #7 for the weekend??? For a film that's BEST PICTURE, it better jump up a hell of alot more than #7 on the box office chart and were gonna find out if it does or if USA TODAY is right in that no one really cares compared to previous years..

I'm confused, BKB, as to what you are saying. Do you sincerely believe a movie has to clear a certain box office level to be a worthy Oscar winner? If so, just out of curiousity, at what dollar amount do you feel a movie has to reach to be considered a worthy winner/contender?

Heres its drops weekend by weekend

Feb 4–6 -29.0%
Feb 11–13 -14.5%
Feb 18–21 +9.3%
Feb 25–27 +6.0%

In the top 10, its the only movie to increase from last week. Thats awfully good for a movie that you think is supposedly
" Overated " Even if it didnt win best picture it was still gonna pass 80mil - but now it'll probably pass 100mil, so it's all gravy. Oh and since it went to wide release it was never at #7

According to today's USA TODAY, They Panned Rock citing that they should've used a computer generated Johnny Carson to Host The Show, someone with more Elegance which I agree on.. I love Chris Rock and all, but Hosting The Oscars was an odd choice..

Harry Knowles isn't intelligent enough to appreciate a film that doesn't have explosions and FX to keep his fat ass awake. He's the last person I would ever pay attention to concerning a film's quality. PROOF THAT HE DOESN'T PAY ATTENTION...

" I like Eastwood's MILLION DOLLAR BABY. It's a nice flick about a fairly obvious story, told better throughout any number of fantastic boxing films."

I think that speaks volumes about how he just didn't see the movie that everybody else saw, if he saw it at all.
