Surprising editing win for the Aviator.

Finally able to get back. Hope that doesn't happen during our awards shows on the 6th.

Finally back.

Winning Editing is huge for The Aviator. It could be on the way to 8 oscars now.

Bummer - couldn't get on.

Loved the Oscar love fest for MDB, Eastwood, Freeman and Swank.

Sorry Lecter and Loyal as MDB and Swank came through to kick butt.

It was a fun night. Chris Rock was hit and miss, mostly hit. No big surprises (maybe we're all just really awesome guessers), but MDB's win's actually took me by surprise. I had myself convinced that there would be a director/picture split. Though, as much as I love MDB, I can't help but feel sorry for Scorsese (especially after having watched Raging Bull last night). This wasn't his last shot, though. He'll get it evetually.

I was pleased, of course, with Eternal Sunshine and Sideways' wins. Excellent. And Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman (Freeman's win probably made me the happiest). And Finding Neverland for score! Much deserved.

It should also be noted that none of the best picture nominees walked away empty-handed.

And... did Dustin Hoffman seem a little tipsy to anyone else?

That's the best about it. Unlike 2000, when 3 of the Best Picture nominees went unrewarded at all...

Oh and on a side note, I thought up until Million Dollar Baby's Best Picture win, the show was utterly boring probably because so predictable.

I thought The Aviator was a god movie, but not quite oscar-worthy, so I am not too upset over the loss. However, now I believe The Departed will sweep big time.

well, here are my thoughts....

1. Chris Rock was a big time disappointment. When your funniest line (IMO) is "And now presenting the first woman to ever breast feed an apple" then you were pretty lame. I couldn't believe his whole monologe was about "if you can get an A don't settle for B"

2. This was an INCREDIBLY BORING Oscars. I mean I love the Oscars, I was watching about 45 minutes before it actually started and I thought it was really boring. They cut it to its shortest running time in how many years? and it was still boring and MORE THAN EVER.

3. Aviator sweeping at first is okay because it did deserve most of them. Film Editing it did NOT deserve.

4. The Million Dollar Baby took 3 big ones and that was great. There was a lot of tension before the last two were announced.

It kinda mirrors the entire race.
Aviator was the front-runner from the beginning and then in the middle of the season Sideways took the storm but Million Dollar Baby came out of nowhere and ended with force.

yeah The Departed will make a sweep big time. i can't wait to see it too, because it's based on one of my favorite film of all-time "INfernal Afairs" i hope Scorcese doesn't screw the original.

Wow. That was probably the most predictable Oscar's ever (Aside from last year). I was hoping for a few upsets, but nothing came. I guess The Incredibles for Sound Editing was sorta a surprise.

My thoughts about the Oscar show:

1. Chris Rock did a good job. I expected worse. But him ignoring the nominated movies in his opening monologue was a really bad decision. If Crystal is free next year: Bring him back ASAP
2. The speeches sucked big time. Hilary Swank's is in the same category as Gwyneth Paltrow's was. And I expected more from Foxx than a rehash of his Globe speech. That was really bad. Only two speeches were reallyn good: The one from Lumet and from Thelma Schoonmaker. Speaking of:
3. The Oscar for Thelma was the best moment of Oscar Night 2005.
4. The new format was a good idea, but can be done better: Getting the nominees on stage was bad, because you never knew who was there for which Oscar. The idea of handing out the awards in the audience was a bit better, because it spared us the endless way to the podium. BUT handing out awards ton those short movies and not showing any clips was a terrible decision. I had no idea which short movie was about which topic and worse, which animated short used which animation techniques
5. What were all those noises backstage? This was the Oscar show with the most technical glitches of the last 15 years.
6. Having Beyoncé singing three nominees and Banderas the fourth was bad. Get the people who perform in the movie, damnit!
7. Where the heck were the clips for the five nominated movies? I always liked that part where they introduce them throughout the night...
8. Having the technical award winner on a balcony and getting a round of applause from the audience was way overdue. I applaud the Academy for this
9. Sean Penn showing no sense at humor at all and defending Jude Law was lame...
10. I just hope Marty will refuse to accept the honorary award they gonna beg him to accept in a few years. That sucked...

I agree. But that $300M difference in box office and the fact that the people overwhelmingly chose Shrek 2 over TI more than makes up for it

Chris Rock was a mediocre host. And I didn't like the awards being brought to the people in their seats. Other than that, everything was pretty good.
