 Re: The Tech thread
A more powerful processor can never be a bad thing. As 3D, games and other video related elements grow on the platform, it can only be a good thing to have a better processor. The difference will be noticeable, but small, at launch. A year from now, with different advances and new apps, it will be more pronounced.
To explain the screen difference, you have to understand the difference between AMOLED and TFT. I haven't seen it first hand, so I can't say with affinity, but what I have heard says the screen is the best ever to be put in a phone, and I don't doubt it. It also is much less battery intensive than the Droid's screen.
And you're right that the multi-touch issue won't change, that doesn't mean it's not a detractor.

 Re: The Tech thread
A year from now I'll have a different phone. :-D
Well, probably not, but by the time those things actually matter, there will be 10 new phones better than the Nexus One, including 5 from Google. For now Android developers should really focus on making better games.
As for the screen - I've actually played around with the Nexus One, like I said before. I didn't notice any difference in screen quality.
Finally, I still don't agree with your notion that Nexus One is somehow more polished than the Droid. Droid works amazingly well - just about as well as you can expect it to.
That said, I am annoyed about a few things (mostly about Android):
1. Horrible built-in music player (I did start using it as an iPod replacement after all). The features are very limited and, most importantly, to change a song while the phone is locked takes 3 different operations and you have to be looking at the phone - this sucks when I'm driving the car or am at the gym. There are supposedly apps that improve on that, but I've yet to test any of them out.
2. Default messaging client blows; good thing there is the Handcent SMS app that is awesome.
3. Google Voice is not a VOIP app - not an Android-specific issue, but it would be awesome if it was.
4. Battery life sucks - maybe the better screen technology on Nexus One improves that?

 Re: The Tech thread
I would say that the issues you're experiencing may have more to do with the UI functionality Motorola chose to implement, not the native Android OS, but to be fair, I don't really know without doing more research.
I doubt the battery life will be much different. Rumors say the Nexus One does a really good job at controlling power by slowing the processor, managing screen brightness, etc when the phone is sleeping. Unfortunately, when the screen and phone is on, it's still going to drain power like a hog. The only consolation I can offer is that my iPhone is no better ... I can go full charge to no power in under an hour and a half if I'm playing a game non stop. At least you can buy a second battery ... I'm shit out of luck.
As for the polish, I've heard that just about all Android devices experience lag (so does the iPhone) when bouncing between applications, etc. That is supposedly gone with the new processor.

 Re: The Tech thread
No lag on the Droid. It's all very smooth. And the issues I listed are Android issues, not Motorola - you can barely tell that the phone is a Motorola.
BTW the Music Control app mitigates my issue regarding the music player.

Krem wrote: to change a song while the phone is locked takes 3 different operations and you have to be looking at the phone To be honest, I'd prefer this situation to the one I have with iPhone. I'll be hanging around on the train, minding my own business, when I'll suddenly hear a sound like a wasp headbanging in a biscuit tin. After a while, it'll gradually dawn on me that this annoying sound is actually coming from my own crotch. The conclusion of this (faintly hallucinogenic) sequence is that I take my iPhone out of my jeans pocket, and see that I've somehow managed to start playing an .mp3 - even tho' the phone is locked. When my phone is locked, I don't want it to do anything except maybe, MAYBE make emergency calls. I'd much prefer any music-related options to be bracketed by unlocking and then re-locking the phone, simply to avoid being surprised by tinny pocket music on the train.

 Re: The Tech thread
I need new headphonez, not in-ear plugs, for my PC (I don't do speakers). I want something with good quality, because I've been using $9.99 Wal-Mart shit for like the last forever that if the cord moves in a slight way, the sound can fade in and out. But I've finally decided to open my purse, get my wallet out and take out daddy's debit card.
I'm not wanting anything as expensive as the Dr. Dre shit everyone is going plumcrazy for. I don't need noise cancellation, oh please. I don't listen to my musak on an airport runway. Just something with good quality. Halp?

Haha, I was going to recommend the Dre headphones too. My brother got them, they're unreal and if you want high quality, that's the way to go.

Altec Lansing BackBeat Titanium UHP326 or JVC HA-FX300
Those are the highest rated portable headphones by Consumer Reports. Both are $60

 Re: The Tech thread
I've been doing a lot of research on headphones for myself as well. I finally went with Sennheiser HD201's. I couldn't afford to go more than $20 for myself. I should be getting them today; can't wait to try them out. I've been using a pair of Maxell NB-303 around-the-head 'phones for the last few years, and they are SO ready to be retired. The styrofoam's coming off, the remotest bit of bass makes the most horrible of buzzing sounds, and my ears are complaining from the shape of the hard plastic headband.

I don't like the name but other than that the new windows phone software looks nicer to me than the iPhone. It makes the iPhone look almost outdated. Which I'm not the first to say, I know but still.

 Re: The Tech thread
It does look nice. I was quite impressed with what they put out, next test is seeing in action. Better late than never, but it seems MS is paying attention to form factor.

lolcopter!
I was impressed with Windows Mobile 7, but to say it's going to blow the iPhone and Android off the map is just silly (especially since WinMo competes the most with RIM). WinMo7 just means that Microsoft may be able to remain relevant in the future mobile space, but despite that, they won't even be able to hold onto 3rd in the market share battle for much longer and I really would temper my expectations if I were you.

 Re: The Tech thread
Is Windows Mobile 7 used as a platform for Zune HD? I love the way Zune HD operates. The prettiest system on an music/video player I've ever seen. Unfortunately they don't sell it outside the US.

 Re: The Tech thread
It looks somewhat similar, but no, WinMo7 isn't based on the Zune HD platform (though it seems to have borrowed lightly from some of the design aspects).

Just came out that WM7 won't have cut and paste. I get the feeling that the more we hear, the less appealing this is going to be.

 Re: The Tech thread
Next problem with Windows 7 ... it's browser is ancient ... Microsoft says it's almost to the same level of IE7, but not quite there. Oh, and you can't run any 3rd party browsers like on Android, so that's all you get.
Vomit.

I'm just kidding, of course. I've bought my fair share of Apple stuff. iPad really irks me, though.

I think evo should be the best phone where ever wimax service is available. 3G services currently have 5GB limit which will not be the case with wimax.

 Re: The Tech thread
The attempt at making the American market more like the European one seems to have failed, and that's a shame. I think the problem was their refusal to put the phone in stores under the same model, which was a carrier issue. People just want to see and touch the phone before they buy it.
The Incredible and future Android HTC built handsets are already surpassing the Nexus One in capability and hardware, so it's hard to find a reason to push the now outdated model. Makes more sense to push the new ones, it just is what it is.
