This movie had a ton of "lolwut" moments. Wtf was he doing racing in the 1st place, the birthday party scenes, ect?

But the Avengers stuff wasnt handled very well, and the film made clever uses of humor. The court scene, restauraunt scene, and final award ceromony were classic.

The Tony's dying storyline, i.e. subplot no. 7075, was so poorly handled.

Here is a chance to show this larger-than-life, Jagger-swagger icon at his absolute worst, falling apart and losing hope. Downey is a superb actor and could have easily played dramatic, facing-mortality scenes to their fullest. Instead, we get a couple of grimaces and a painful, idiotic, slapdash party sequence. Drunk-Tony is definitely as bad as emo-Peter because both represent the same creative failing: cheap shots and low-brow gags when the protagonist is supposed to be in a place of utter despair.

It wasn't.... bad.... The film never bored me really, however it was reaching the whole time. The balance between serious drama and amusing action that worked so well in the first 2/3rds of the first film was never attained in this mess. It was entertaining, however the humor fell flat, Sam Rockwell was awful, and the party sequence was laughably bad. I didn't dislike it, I had fun while the film was on. But by the end it just felt so much sillier and unbalanced than the original, which wasn't exactly a master-piece in the first place.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Sam Rockwell was the best part of this movie, c'mon. He was hilarious, fresh, etc. He would have been even better, though, if they hadn't fumbled Whiplash. The film was definitely missing an intimidating physical presence. Whiplash should have been it, but he just vanted his boird.

I like Sam Rockwell a lot, I just didn't feel he fit at all in this film and his character annoyed the hell out of me. Maybe that's just me, but every time he was on screen I wanted to leave the theater.

Agreed.

idk what Gun is smoking but Sam Rockwell is not great in every movie he does. This one counts as over the top annoying rather than good work.

Sam Rockwell was indeed the worst part of the movie. Shame because I hoped for him to be one of the best.

:funny: So let me see if I got this straight Savage: The movies a mess as you put it, but works well in the so called first 2/3 of the movie with amusing action and serious drama, but it's a mess???? :funny: It doesn't sound like a mess and certainly didn't play out like that in the movie.. Seriously, if many of you folks didn't like the character from the getgo, from the 1st movie, then why'd you waste your time on this???? I read these reviews that say it was boring and had little action(which was horsehit if I've ever heard it) then read another review that's a complete 360 turn in saying just the opposite.. :funny: It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen, almost like you really did want the movie to fail for fear of knocking down another superhero movie currently on top.. Look, this wasn't meant to be some serious emo drama like TDK was and is a movie that appeals to all ages.. Does that in some way sort of bother you that takes away your enjoyment for this or what cause that's how it's kind of coming across??? All these nerds crying about the inclusion of Samuel L. Jackson and the S.H.I.E.L.D Storyline and the AVENGERS was distracting to the story, that it offered nothing to the story, but that's also not true either.. You've known this was what MARVEL Studios agenda was for the last 2 years.. By now you foilks should be used to this and it won't be any different for the upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA and THOR.. If that doesn't float your boat, I'd stay away from those 2 then..

While it doesn't quite hit the mark like the first film, Iron Man 2 is still an enjoyable ride even with its flaws. Robert Downey Jr. is superb again as Tony Stark and bring alot of comedy and fun to the table even when the film reaches some "dark" points. Gwyneth Paltrow seemed a bit useless this time around and everything Pepper went through just seemed a bit bland and unnecessary. Scarlett Johannsen was a nice addition to the cast and while she never took the film at any moment, she was a better female asset then Penny. Don Cheadle took the role of Roadie over suprisingly well so the change in actor didn't hurt the film at all. The action was solid and never seemed to hit overdrive and lose the feel of the film such as in last year's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Mickey Rourke did decently as Whiplash but with all the promotion he was given, his role in the film ended up being a disappointment. In fact his entire plotline with Hammer was a huge disappointment and Sam Rockwell, one of Hollywood's greatest actors, falls into one of his worst roles here even though it seemed he was trying to his best to fulfill what his character entailed. Jon Favreau and Samuel L. Jackson were great as well in their small roles. Now the one other bug with the film is that the film spent a little too much time on the Avengers. Now unless they work this in with the other superhero films like Captain America and Thor, then all the Avenger ties within the film will work. Though it would be a disappointment if Iron Man was the only place where the Avengers connection really took place. Personally, the Avengers segment at the end was perfect and fine enough for a connection between Iron Man's world and the Avenger's world. Also what was with everyone knowing how to hack into the system? I mean come on. Anyway Iron Man 2 is a successful sequel that dosesn't fail to miss the joy of the first and brings hope and anticipation for the threequel which is becoming rarer as the years go on. **1/2

**1/2 stars for a movie that didn't miss the joys of the 1st movie that was also a success??? Folks, I don't mean to sit here and dissect everyones review frame by frame, I really don't.. It's just that I look at the nitpicks in the reviews of some of you and just have to wonder what you expected???? Captain America and Thor will have tie-ins, somehow, someway cause that's what MARVEL studios have intended for awhile now, but many of you act so surprised by it when it's not really a surprise anymore and is expected.. It's like ytour damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of scenario...

I was truely disappointed by the lack of action in Iron Man 2. The action scene at the end was pretty good but I was hoping for more large scale battle sequences with stunning visuals and this movie did not deliver them.

I actually agree with Gunslinger on Rockwell - I thought he was great and played the over the top character with relish.

Alright.

I saw it again tonight. These were tickets I purchased 2 weeks ago, so I had to watch it again. I was looking forward to it because I was going to be in the balcony seating which I had never done before.

Anyway, I really noticed how short all the action was this time around. Monte Carlo was still fun but so short. The fight between IM and Rhode was fine but not very long either. I enjoyed all the Avengers/Nick Fury stuff. The final battle was still fun but the final final battle was extremely short. It was whiplash whiplash whiplash and then it's over. That was disappointing. I loved Black Widow action. She's awesome. Finally, they need to not be punks and stick a final scene at the absolute freaking end of the credits. That's ridiculous. I did, however, enjoy seeing that nugget and after reading a bit on Thor and the synopsis I'm more interested in watching it now.
