 Cursed
Cursed Quote: Cursed is a 2005 horror film directed by Wes Craven and written by screenwriter Kevin Williamson. Craven and Williamson are the creators of Scream. The film stars Golden Globe-nominees Christina Ricci and Jesse Eisenberg as the main sister-and-brother protagonists. The plot focuses on two young adults who are attacked by a werewolf loose in Los Angeles. The movie premiered on November 7, 2004, at the American Film Market and was released theatrically in 2005. It was filmed in Los Angeles, California, United States, with special effects shot in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Despite being a critical and commercial failure, it gained a cult following among Wes Craven fans and later found more success on the unrated DVD. I'll be seeing this tomorrow. I pray it's not another Boogeyman. [-o<

I don't think it can be nearly as bad as Boogeyman was. This is Wes Craven, we're talkin' about.

Wes Craven directed Music of the Heart, which was easily the least frightening movie I saw in years. Perhaps he lost his touch.

Cursed
With as much trouble as this film went through to get released, it really didn't turn out that bad. It is far from perfect, with quite a few horror cliches being evident throughout the film. The CGI-werewolf transitions are also somewhat dissapointing. Other then that though, it is quite enjoyable. Well written and fairly good performances from the main cast.
6.9/10 (B)

I saw it today. It was GREAT! I was not disappointed in the slighest. It was so entertaining and fun to watch, and offered many good thrils.
Definitely the best film of 2005 thus far. A refreshing horror entry that revitalizes my faith in the genre.

After this movie became a PG-13, I set myself up for a dissapointment. Especially since I saw Boogeyman, I lost all faith in the PG-13 horror. I'm happy to say that Cursed revived my hope. Wes Craven truly is a genius when it comes to teen horror flicks. This movie was very entertaining. It had the right amount of everything. Huge laughs, cheesy love story, nice amount of werewolf time, and suspense. The cast did a fairly good job for a horror movie, so that was surprising. The one thing about this movie that made me mad was the PG-13, though. This movie would have been excellent if freakin' Dimesions would have left it an R. I would have loved to see the werewolfs rip apart people instead of just sounds, and then cut to the next scene. THAT pissed me off. Other than that, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, and it's definently a huge step up from Boogeyman. It's better than most of the horror movies I've seen so far in 2005, actually. It's no Scream, but it's a nice substitute. Oh, and watching a bunch of hotties on the screen for 90 minutes was a big plus.

Glad you liked it. I agree though about the PG-13/R rating. It would have been even better as R.

It is a bad movie. The only scary thing about this movie is that some studio honcho allowed this movie to be made at all.

CURSED (2005)
It's not some amazing film that will make my top 10 at the end of the year, but it is sure to be one of the most fun times I'll have at the theater all year. It was an absolute blast for what it's worth! Yes, the CGI sucks and there are things to nitpick about, but it has a nice amount of jump scares and couldn't be more entertaining. I saw it in a packed audience opening night and there were plenty of laughs and screams. I didn't hear anything negative on the way out. I was afraid I'd be highly disappointed by this movie, but all of the negative things lowered my expectations and lead to me being very pleasantly surprised.
I had so dang much fun at this movie! It works great as popcorn entertainment. It deserved to do much better than the other horror crap that was released this year. Too bad this one wouldn't have gotten released sooner before everyone was sick of so many horror movies (a new one was released almost every week), leading to this one not doing as well. If it would have come out sooner it could have done quite a bit better. It's a shame because it's a blast and I'd kill for a sequel. I wish they'd do one anyway. I know Wes Craven wouldn't be back to direct but I don't care as long as Kevin Williamson returns to write.
Grade: 8/10 (A-) ----- I normally wouldn't give this high of a rating to something that works as great popcorn entertainment, but it's a personal recent favorite of mine. It's not Million Dollar Baby, but if you're looking for more of a "fun" movie then this is definitely satisfying in that area. It was fun and funny. See it with a group of people. The more the merrier. A movie like this is best with a bunch of people. It's way more fun that way. At least try to go when it would be busiest so you can see it with a good amount of people in attendance. Friday night and Saturday night would likely be best.
It's no SCREAM, that's for sure, but it works on its own. It's the best horror movie I've seen in theaters in awhile. I went to SAW opening weekend because it was Halloween weekend and I wanted to see a horror flick, and I didn't think it was that great at all. It's one of the most overrated movies of 2004. The acting was atrocious by the leads! Plus the movie was just cheesy. It does work as something to laugh at though because the bad acting and cheesy stuff make it quite hilarious. Lions Gate usually releases some great films too (MAY, LOST & DELIRIOUS, OPEN WATER, THE RULES OF ATTRACTION, and many more) so in comparison this one was especially disappointing and nowhere near as great as most of them. Then the following weekend I sat through THE GRUDGE which was even worse. It was so boring and pointless. It wasn't involving in the least, unlike the movie it couldn't resemble more - THE RING. Now that one was highly engrossing, hypnotic, and creepy - with a mystery that was actually interesting.
THE GRUDGE was just lame and is also overrated. I'd give SAW a 6/10 (C+) and THE GRUDGE a 5/10 (C). I'd highly recommend CURSED over those two.
I plan on seeing it again in theaters. I want to support it and plus I'd just love to see it again. It's too fun! I plan on buying the DVD the day it hits stores for sure. Hopefully it's extras packed...

This is no masterpeice of cinema, but it is a shitload of FUN. That's right, fun. A word movie studios have seemingly forgotten in their quest to make the same goddamn teen horror movie over and over again so they can get rich of the profits. Cursed doesn't take itself to seriously, but doesn't make a mockery of what it is supposed to be. A horror movie with humor, and it accomplishes both. In short, it's the best horror movie of the year so far (yes, it's better than Ring Two)

I agree! It is MUCH better than THE RING 2 and so far is the best horror movie of the year. In the end though I'm sure HIGH TENSION will end up being the best horror movie of the year. But CURSED will still be one of the best.

I didn't like it very much. The story was terrible, the acting was terrible. Even Christina Ricci, who is usually amazing, comes out very flat in her performance. Even Mya and Shannon Elizabeth were better than her, and that's pitiful. The whole homphobic jock scenerio was so stupid, and predictable. It had a few amusing moments, like the werewolf flipping off Christina and her brother. I thought the werewolf makeup, and effects were okay, but nothing special. The ending was extremely corny, and I was so anxiously awaiting a twist, but it never happened. It could of been so much better. I thought House of Wax was miles ahead of this.

Laughably awful. The werewolf effects look as if they were designed by especially inept 2nd graders. Of Christina Ricci's rather long career, Cursed has made the worst use of her acting talent. A D-, bordering on an F.
