What's impressive is it's runs from Weeks 1-8 are all impressive, by this time, movies have started to drop already or have had big dropps. Avatar in most markets has not dropped more than 30% on weekends.

Even though it's drops overseas are pretty high overall it is doing much better than the Domestic market. I see that the ratio can be around 25% Dom/75%Overseas when all is said and done and potentially higher overseas

So that's $83.3m since Tuesday. Might be like $60-65m for the weekend?

20th Century Fox's "Avatar" in its ninth round on the foreign circuit defiantly stared down overseas openings of three big major studio films over the weekend, emerging No. 1 with $59 million drawn from 8,453 screens in 71 markets.

Director James Cameron's blockbuster epic in 3D pushed its record-setting overseas gross total to $1.690 billion, and its unprecedented worldwide cume to $2.350 billion. The 20th Century Fox release was the sole holdover in the weekend's top five titles.

Top "Avatar" on the weekend was Japan, which generated $5.8 million from 569 spots for a market cume of $121.9 million. Other big markets in order of market cumes are France ($156.4 million), China ($155.5 million), Germany ($125.3 million), the U.K. (124.4 million) and Russia ($108.5 million.)

That's a -25.7% drop. Are we looking at a $2.7B-$2.8B finish?

Also, how did France jump $15m this week?

And Japan continues to make its bid!

That's about $110m for the whole week. Question is, will it make it to $2b OS, it needs about $310m more. Shit, could be close...

I think it should make it. It'd need a 6.25x multiplier from here on out. The Chinese New Year should help with that, plus this was like it's first week of OS competition in forever.

it has basically stayed flat over 8 weekends. i think japan could emerge as the biggest os market considering china has slowed down and may not hit 200m.

I think China still has the upper hand. Avatar could end up at $170-180m in Japan.

China will win this, but Japan is setting itself up well to pass France.

And $2+ billion overseas will happen too. This weekend was really difficult for it in many regards. Very snowy weather in some parts of Europe and huge simultaneous competition for the first time since its release. I see it at around $1.77 billion by the end of the next weekend.

I'm sure if they get within $50m of $2billion oversaes that they'll push this pass the mark.

The only big boost left is the OScars, but i'm sure it's legs will continue to hold well over the next few weeks.

Starting Monday thought China basically has a week off thanks to the New Year there. That could help power it ahead to 200 million

BTW, Italy could end up the largest of the lower-upper range markets unless it falls off the map.

After five weeks:

Italy - $78.5m
Australia - $73.5m
South Korea - $72.0m
Spain - $66.7m

Countries like China, Singapore, Hongkong etc.. which celebrate Chinese New Year are supposed to slow down this weekend.

Chinese New Year is like Christmas for them and they don't go out much specially for this weekend to watch movies. I was sure this weekend should be slower for China but the coming weekends should be great since there are holidays coming over from here on in China :)

But hooray I was thinking that it will go down this weekend in Overseas markets to one of the heavy opener and though it did do a steep drop but it did sneak past all 3 to hold number 1 position :cheer:

That's good, if only we had this in Australia, lucky to get a string of 4 days in a row. :disgust:

Seems to have lost momentum after the GOlden Globes win. All the big awards since was won by The Hurt Locker.

Largest combination of drops to date, it's been dropping in the under 20% until this week. Valentine's Day must've dented some of its takings.
