Guangdong is adding another IMAX on the 5th, and 3D screens are added across the country as well. I think there are more than 900 3D screens now.

Hmm, Confucius must be really somewhat of a disappointment considering the project's star and its prestige factor.

It's now pretty much out of the theaters after just three weeks of release. Certainly a big financial disappointment, but as HanHan, the leading blogger for Chinese youth, said, it's in fact a good news for Chinese film industry so that there won't be any such anemic films on other historical philosophers such as Mencius, Laozi, or Zhuangzi.

That sounds like your typical dull biopic with a solid leading performance.

Re: China Box Office (Avatar on track for $200m)
Okay, so apparently Avatar made $7.6 million in China over the weekend for $144.4 million in total. $200 million is not happening, but $150 million will be passed by the end of the next weekend. I assume it'll finish with around $180 million or so.

Jiffy208 wrote: Which is why I wonder if Japan can't pull it out after all. You mean making more than $175 million? I highly doubt that at this point. BTW Germany is actually showing very very good legs for the film. While it probably won't be #1, it might end up in the Top 3 of its biggest territories. It increased in admissions here and barely dropped in gross this weekend, standing at $117.3 million after a $7.8 million weekend. We're definitely passing $150 million as well.

Not necessarily yet as Chinese New Year on Feb 14th will bring a week of vacation for everyone, and many college students will just start their winter break this week until the end of month.

I dunno, Japan's probably already shown better legs than any other market thus far (which is of course what it's known for), and it's not like the bottom falls out for that at some point. Avatar has obviously shown great legs so far in China, but it seems like longevity is more of a question mark there due to the nature of the market. It's still the favorite, though.

Re: China Box Office (Avatar on track for $200m)
china should approach 200m if not actually cross the mark. france is looking good for 170m+. japan/germany and may be even uk could approach 150m. i think japan is the big favorite for number 3.

Re: China Box Office (Avatar surpassed 1b yuan)
It's awesome seeing a Detective Conan film there. There are like 600 episodes of that show.
Is Pleasant Goat and the Big Big Wolf 2 doing better than the original?

Is Pleasant Goat and the Big Big Wolf 2 doing better than the original? Yup, it reached the original's total in 10 days.

Is it the same as in the US, where more people actually head to the theatres, or is it more like Christmas Eve in the US, where there are so many celebrations that people don't make it to the theatre as much?? How long is winter break there for college students? In your opinion, what is its chances at passing 200 million. Personally I would say with the upcoming holidays, and ofcourse still the Oscars to go, there is about a 60% chance that it can hit that mark, which is incredible. I don't understand all the really high predictions for Japan. It's been a good performance, but not phenominal like China or France.
