Re: The Avatar(Avatanic) Prediction | Tracking Thread
I think so Admissions currently are tracked directly with the ticket price which is again not proper as well. Though I still believe it is better than the current adjusted and unadjusted metrics it is not guaranteed success method.
Whatever Avatar grosses at this moment is monumental it does not matter where it will stand at the end (that can be discussed later). But all I can say is that Avatar is making money and that does not change the fact that it has a stern competition from Internet, DVD's and the current mindset.
When GWTW was released there was no means where you can see the movie other than watch it in theater. Titanic was watched more on VHS by a considerable number of people if not more than theater count.
If Avatar is making this money it is not just because of 3D though when compared to the Top movies it is true that it is passing them because of that added advantage

Re: The Avatar(Avatanic) Prediction | Tracking Thread
Enki,
I think that Sundays drop is going to be relatively small, and possibly an increase over last weekend due to no full day of Championship football. I think $9 -$10.5 million is the range.
Im thinking $32 million this weekend.

I think that Sundays drop is going to be relatively small, and possibly an increase over last weekend due to no full day of Championship football. I think $9 -$10.5 million is the range.
Im thinking $32 million this weekend. I missed that football variable. My estimates are based on a regression from the comparison of the curves of Avatar and Titanic over time. I think in the long term my model may be more accurate, but you will probably beat my predictions most of the time in the short term. I hope you are right this Sunday

Weekend: 29m Total: 740m
To think my original total was above average and was 320. What a Pandora-esque new world it is.
To get a 10.0x would be the ultimate, but honestly 9.0 is out of this world.

Re: The Avatar(Avatanic) Prediction | Tracking Thread
Looks like theater owners are seriously considering keeping Avatar in 3D screens during March and April instead of going with other 3D movies http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/30/movie ... tar&st=cseAnd one more thing from Imax "The IMAX Corporation have decided to extend Avatar 3D for 1 screening per day and 2 screenings on the saturday and sunday throughout March to even as late as May and this is for all IMAX screens worldwide."
