Re: China Box Office (Avatar: the biggest film ever)
Looks really reasonable. Really good analysis the only thing that I see is the assumption of dropping 45% which in this case is very likely.

Re: China Box Office (Avatar 2D allowed to stay again)
would that mean avatar's number would be higher than last week. I did read in BOM that number of 3D shows have increased this week. Do you think there is a remote chance for 200M.

The competition will get more serious, and the first Chinese 3D film will be released in 2 weeks. $170m is possible though.

Re: China Box Office (Avatar 2D allowed to stay again)
Nice article. As I was predicting before the publicity backfired and the Avatar-taxi business is now going to be lesser. BTW xiayun what does this means for Avatar in China. Will people be more passionate about it now knowing that they won against (corrupt ) politics? I see that 170M looks good which means China has a possibility to pass France. This is really getting great and interesting

Re: China Box Office (Avatar 2D allowed to stay again)
More confirmation from the actual theater chains that theaters without 3D equipment are allowed to show 2D again, but theaters with 3D are not. Still, that covers a lot of ground and should be applauded. And Avatar has broken $100m by Friday. Quick update.

Go, China! for Avatar's #1 international market.

UK has no chance. It's China vs. France with China getting the upperhand.

Re: China Box Office (Avatar 2D allowed to stay again)
Yep France has already shown numbers and China is going strong everyday. UK has shown decent legs but not for a heavy contender. It will be great though to have it pass 100M which seems to be the case but reaching 150M or even 170M would be very far-fetched at this point

Re: China Box Office (Avatar broke $100m)
Now all the Chinese sources, even the numbers directly from the supposedly official reporting agency that I linked, are saying 38m yuan for Confucius. So looks like it's artificially inflated by 10m, an amount that could be borrowed from Avatar.

Re: China Box Office (Avatar broke $100m)
Considering legs in China are seemingly terrific...is there a shot at $200 million?

Dr. Lecter wrote: Considering legs in China are seemingly terrific...is there a shot at $200 million? There is definitely a chance. The keys will be how many 3D screens True Legend will take away on Feb 9th and also how high a ceiling the authority is willing to let it reach without interfering.

Is True Legend the first major foreign Digital 3-D release?
That'll be interesting to watch perform.

That'll be interesting to watch perform. I wonder if a U.S. distributor will pick it up for a 3-D release here...

Re: China Box Office (Avatar broke $100m)
I'm still not sure exactly how much 3D there is in True Legend outside all the martial art sequences Yuen Woo-Ping shot in 3D.
