There's no point arguing with haters but arguing with Argos is even more folly and a waste of time.

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $1.606bn Worldwide (#2)
very good post at bom about why avatar will not come close to titanic's 72m usd gross in brazil . DonVito wrote: Thanks. Let me also tell something about why Avatar gross in Brazil is just half of Titanic. I saw some posts asking why it is so low. When Titanic was released in 1997 our currency was 1 real = 1 US dollar. So if it grossed US$70,000,000 then that time it was R$70,000,000. The currency on that time was artificialy controlled by the goverment to fight high inflation. In 1999 the currency model was not anymore controlled and real currency start it's dive until we got in 2003 R$4 for US$1, but since that real currency recovered most of it's value. But even today R$70,000,000 is almost just half of what it was. US$1 = R$1,80 nowadays. Avatar has grossed until now R$58,715,184 so it would be close enough to Titanic in our local currency. Ice Age 3 is the all time grossing in local currency with R$80.929.308. The other problem is that we are having summer vacation atm, most families usualy travel December or January here. There is also limited 3D theathers and just 2 IMAX (more like LIEMAX) for the whole country. Sao Paulo, a population of 10 million people just have one IMAX IMAX ticket are sold out for at least 2 weeks and 3D version is going strong. Most people are waiting to get in line for IMAX than see a 2D on a regular cinema. It is already starting to lose it's 2D rooms but 3D expect to go as far as March without any movie replacing. But again, 3D versions are not avaliable everywhere. Alvin and the Chipmunks right now are gaining market share because is almost time to kids to get back to school so it is normal to go for a movie like that with children. It should drop first days of February. For Box Office info about Brazil you can go to : http://epipoca.uol.com.br/bilheterias.php

I thought there might be another source people were getting them from.

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $1.606bn Worldwide (#2)
The Overseas numbers are slowing by a day or two and then gets better again. I think $1.5B is very likely it could very well top $2B overseas. Domestic score has started to slow down so I guess it will still be around $2.6 to $2.7B. That means it will be very close to sink the ship by a margin of $1B which is amazing!!!

It's definately showing Titanic like legs, which bodes well for end grosses all around.

 Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $1.606bn Worldwide (#2)
AVATAR has officially beaten 2012 in India!Quote: Avatar crosses collection of Rs. 95 crores to become the biggest ever Hollywood film in India. Wins two awards at the Golden Globes, propelling prospects of a clean sweep at the forthcoming Oscars
It was a weekend of double celebrations for producers Fox Star Studios India as James Cameron’s epic action adventure Avatar not only won two Golden Globes for the Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Director, but the film also grossed a total of Rs. 95 crores collections to become the highest grossing Hollywood film in India.
Avatar beat 2012’s box office collections to win the No.1 position in India. And the film is still going strong across all centers in the country, leaving behind several Bollywood hits of the year and also featuring among the Top 10 grossers ever in India.
The film is currently giving stiff competition to one of the Bollywood’s biggest hit 3 Idiots, beating the latter’s box office collections in various centers of Delhi, Noida, Kerala, etc.
Commenting on the film’s stupendous performance, Mr.Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios India said, “It is a proud moment for Fox Star, as Avatar receives two important honours at the Golden Globes and also becomes the No.1 Hollywood film in India. We believe that Avatar could close as the 2nd biggest film for 2009 after 3 Idiots.” http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/ent ... 06287.htmlThe 58 3D screens or so in India are really helping this movie A LOT. Oh that was written on 19th Jan. So by now the movie has probably grossed 100 crores.
