It releases this weekend in Italy. The chart I got from Neo on BOM for 2009 Italian boxoffice shows that films, which released in January do usually $15+M.

Fox doesn't count Puerto Rico as US numbers and BOM does add Puerto Rico numbers to US gross.

The reported domestic total should always include Puerto Rico's number; remember it helped TF2 to get over $200m in 5 days domestically. So it shouldn't be double counted.

But it was always counted as a different country for other movies. It was only TF2 that used it as a domestic gross.

AUSTRALIA - Weekend 4

Smashes Titanic's $57.6m record in just 4 weekends and extending it by over $5m. Fuck indeed. It has not dropped below $8m in any of it's weekends. This is just beyond imagination.

It's still school holidays in Australia for at least another week and a half or so. It's also got the Australia Day public holiday on the 26th January (Tuesday) which means that alot of people will also be putting in leave for the Monday and take a 4-Day long weekend. Meaning it's gross next next weekend will be a very strong 6-Day weekend.

Avatar adds almost $5m to it's coffers between Mon-Wed, bringing the total to $68.3m. Or over $9m more than the previous record held by Titanic. At this stage, it will scream past $70m with a finish now between AUD$90m-$110m possible. Can you believe it, almost doubling the previous record. I don't think any market is as impressive on this metric. Massive. Go Australia

Actually Titanic made $57m AUD which probably did translate to $40m or so USD. Thats where things get so murky as the AUD is so strong now that would be $54m or so today. But still at $100m AUD it will almost doubt Titanic!

Titanic didn't gross $40m USD, it fell just short at US$38.2m. In fact, prior to the 2000s, Crocodile Dundee was actually the previous record holder at $39.8m, before The Dark Knight broke the $40m barrier with $43m....and now Avatar likely to raise this to US$90m. It will need to gross in excess of AUD$110m at this rate to hit US$100m. Not totally impossible but is at the upper end of my projections considering the finish of school holidays will start brining in larger drops.

population is a factor but selling hollywood films in uk/australia are easier than in china/india where they have a strong local products. plus per-capita income in australia is lot higher than china.

but i agree with your last comment that both the runs are impressive.

actually the Croc dundee figure in$us is about 33-4mil from memory , if it was 39 the overall intl need to increase, if you got that figure originally from BOM, bom years ago when they put up all time numbers for Aus ,1 a lot weren't correct and 2 when they listed figures in $us some were acurate and others were a guess using I don't know what currency calc... in a nutshell if bom ever puts back the Aus chart you won't be seeing CD at $us39.8 it'll be a lot lower, they were told years ago and also recently about it with that title and a few others.
