Hmmm, it should hit $1.55 billion by the end of its next weekend and be close to $1.7 billion by the end of its 6th...

I'd guess China or Russia (?). Not sure how much it's expected to slow down in the latter market.

NEVER.

That to me is just as bad as Shrek 2 beating ROTK. Movie is crap, doesn't even have good singing.

China has a better shot than Russia. Germany is obviously primed for $100m, and in Japan, it's firming up nicely and has a much stronger shot at $100m than originally thought.

Well, I made two charts using BOM's data. I don't really trust them, but they were the only recent comprehensive list I could find.

Avatar's Per Capita Gross:

http://boxofficetracker.blogspot.com/20 ... e-per.html

The Markets Ranked + % Share:

http://boxofficetracker.blogspot.com/20 ... share.html

And yes, Australia is BY FAR the biggest per capita market for Avatar, with $2.6+. The closest anyone gets is Denmark with $2+ and Hong Kong with $1.87. France is also amazing at $1.56, since their population is 65m.

And China is much lower, so fucking what? I never expect Russia to be high on any per capita list, so your claim is meaningless. We're not even close to 2 tickets per year per capita.

Notice the second smilie above? It's a post just to stir things a lil bit up because it seems (i.e. the thread title of the Russia and CIS thread) that you take a few things too seriously, but it's just harmless fun and not intended to offend. :poke:
So if you know some good jokes abouty Spaniards, please post them. I won't get offended by them, quite the contrary. Love to see what others think of us. :D

Spaniards are not funny in Russia... I don't think there's any jokes about you guys.

$0.55 per capita in Russia is HUGE, especially given how much of the box office receipts come from Moscow alone. I would say that Avatar's per capita gross in the Moscow region is about as high as for all of Australia. Australia's GDP per capita is around $47k, Russia's is around $11.5k, so Russia's per capita Avatar gross is more impressive than that of pretty much all other countries.

I remember they used to track Moscow's box-office. I wonder why they don't do it now. Most of economic activity is concentrated around several big cities - Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Novosibirsk, so that's where the lion's share of receipts is coming from.

Post Re: Avatar (INTL.) - $1.335bn Worldwide (#2)
I would love to know box office grosses for cities. I think Moscow is actually a bigger market for Avatar than New York City. In fact, it might be the biggest city for Avatar in the world.

the NY Times has data for New York City:

http://movies.nytimes.com/indexes/2010/ ... index.html

$28,398,450 total for Avatar thus far. 4th biggest movie of all time in NYC. TDK is the biggest with $41,457,588.

http://movies.nytimes.com/indexes/2009/ ... index.html

So if Moscow accounts for anything over 36% of Russia's $78.4m Avatar total, then it would be the biggest city for Avatar in the world. Paris has only 2.2m people, so it's too small, and the UK's performance is not good enough to make London bigger than NYC (same with Tokyo and Japan). New York would certainly be a bigger market than Los Angeles (which has less than half of its population).

Possibly, but certainly not yet. I really have no idea how much of Russia's box office is concentrated in Moscow, but I think it's a bigger share than either Shanghai or Beijing have. I mean, there are other cities like Shenzen and Guangzhou which are important as well.

Say Moscow accounts for 50-60% of Russia's box office, then the city's total for Avatar will probably be $50m or so. I don't think any single city will match that.
